Media Create Sales: Week 16, 2017 (Apr 17 - Apr 23)

Square seems to like the Switch, so I would think supporting it should not be shocking to anyone as long as Nintendo does not get an exclusive that upsets fans. I don't really see a Bayonetta 2 level thread happening over the Cloud amiibo getting more use in the future.

All you have to do is look at the resistance to just the idea in this thread to know that all hell would break loose if Nintendo dared get their grubby little hands on FF7R.

I never thought I'd see another FF13 going multiplat level meltdown again but this would definitely give it competition.

Out of all AAA titles that Switch will miss out on, FF7R is the most likely Switch port someone should not bet against happening. Anything else sure.

As soon as it gets confirmed that it's coming to the switch, you are going to start seeing how all sof sudden FFVIIR it's a trash game.

As long as the Switch keeps selling in Japan like it has, I don't doubt it will get some decent Square Enix ports.

E3 should be interesting

Ugh I definitely don't care for that game.

Yep. FFVIIR would upset some people.

Shenmue 3, KH3, and FF7R are three major UE4 releases coming from Japan. Anyone of those would generate a thread of epic proportions. FF7R would make a bigger splash, as KH3 is almost assumed at this point. Shemue 3 sorta feels forgotten.

Shemue 3 sorta feels forgotten.

It's funny you say it's forgotten because it was obviously a big deal one wouldn't be able to describe, and I never even played the first two games.

Problem is, I just do NOT see this delivering at all. How big is this team and even with what was it $6 million, that's a far cry from the budget from even the first one on Dreamcast I believe (even if they claim to have additional funding IIRC), there's no way this will fulfill the high expectations of fans waiting all this time. The silence IIRC from it doesn't help either.

Hence why I wouldn't be all that excited if it was coming to Switch. I think a lot of people are going to be in for a rude awakening sadly.

Edit: Note the above is merely from observation. I'm not following the game's development.

I have a feeling it will have the same destiny of the last guardian, years and years of people asking for it and once it's out nobody buys it -_-
ungrateful bastards, the game was soo good.

Did TLG actually not sell well? I haven't heard anything in that regard. I wasn't even looking forward to the game and I ended up buying it, lol.
And I'm glad I did because Trico is soooo cute.

Don't tell me we were talking about Final Fantasy XIII on the Wii 10 years ago.

people, myself included, thought that the wii was going to get the big franchises since it was the market leader. at that time, you only had past history to go off of, and it didn't seem that publishers were treating multiple platforms as single platforms yet.

i think the switch expectations are a lot more realistic as a result.

I don't mean to be greedy but I want all 3 for Switch

Nintendo 64 fans in 1997:

After Ocarina comes out Square will beg Nintendo to put Final Fantasy VII on the N64. Rumour says that Nintendo approach Enix to put Dragon Quest VII back on the system too.

Sega Mark 3 fans in 1987:

You just wait, after enough people play Alex Kidd the system will pick up, you'll see Dragon Quest III on the Mark 3, no doubt!

I think FFVIIR and KH3 have the highest chance. I think one of them is definitely coming to the Switch. Shenmue 3 isn't some big game. It's loved by a small group.

Legit think Square is looking at ways they can drop Xbox One and do Switch for KH3.

Also hope MH5 is 3DS exclusive just to fuck with everyone.
But yea switch exclusive is also great

The only way Shenmue 3 does well, in my opinion, is if we get an HD version of the first two games. They need to use Shenmue 1/2 HD to build momentum as a lead up to Shenmue 3.

As was Bayonetta; but Bayonetta 2 going Wii U exclusive birthed one of the greatest threads of all-time.

The problem with Shenmue is that the games are super boring and only appeal to a small niche.

Playing the first 2 games is more likely to put people away, sell the game on hype.

Is that thread in the archives or does anyone have a link to it? I wasn't on Gaf at the time.

No one has ever said anything like that.

i think everything about the switch points to nintendo wanting a fall 2017 launch but needing a march 2017 launch. late dev kits, missing features like browser, youtube/netflix/amazon go, virtual console, and the low expectations of sales (based on the lineup, probably) all seem like they were forced into their release date due to the wii u dying and telling shareholders nx would be ready by 2017.

I refuse to believe they had any intention of launching in 2016 for at least the last year and a half. They knew what kind of software they had in the pipe and what maintaining momentum would take. If it wasn't for Zelda, I can't even fucking imagine what a 2016 launch would have looked like

Last year, Trev leaked legit Nintendo of America marketing information. In it, there were two scenarios regarding marketing expenses for Zelda, depending on whether the NX was gonna release in 2016 or not.

Besides, Reggie referred to 2015 as a "transition year" for Nintendo at E3 2015. It ended up being a transition to nothing, so I think a fall 2016 launch was the plan for a long time.

Honestly the Wii is a big root of my massive skepticism about third party support and it's not because it didn't receive PS3/360 ports; it's because of the PSP. Not just all the Japanese games like KH:Birth by Sleep or even Tekken 6. The PSP got games like Army of Two, Dante's Inferno and Split/Second which the Wii totally missed out on.

The worst ones are stuff like Soul Caliber where the PSP got a full fat version and the Wii got.... Legends.

Capcom, on the flip, has its head squarely up its own ass and missed the boat. Hell, Oregano was actually right that they had no plans at all and were sitting on their hands waiting. Which, I am told, is a great way to strike the iron while its hot.

Yup, I was also right to say that Level 5's comments were concerning. I was WAAAY off with Square Enix though, a few years ago when Matsuda took over it looked like they were moving to be a PlayStation only publisher again and it definitely looked liked Dragon Quest XI was going to be PS4(or a PS3/PS4) game. I'm really shocked that they are the Switch's biggest supporter.

Honestly not sure what is happening with Bandai Namco though....

Hi guys, I just arrived at Tokyo today and want to do some reporting. I went to Yodobashi Akiba and that place blew my mind. I had never seen a gaming department section in such scale and the Switch section is huge. Though I saw no switch stock there (sold out already?), I saw quite a few people are watching the Arms Direct video on TV. It seems that they are interested in it. Good sign, maybe?

Basically Square Enix is the new Ubisoft to Nintendo this generation lol

The surprise would be if you could find Switch stock after Mario Kart 8 Deluxe launch and weekend.
