Prey Demo: Opening Hour Thread: Everything is Going to Be OK

I was wondering if I was going to buy it day 1... then I listened to the first few minutes of the soundtrack posted on the previous page. Insta-buy.

Yup, it's up on Spotify already too.

Listening now. Like it a lot. I was completely unaware of Mick prior to Doom, so I thought that's what this would be, and it's very different, yet similar.

I like it a lot.

Could you please post a link to that stream.

Oh no shit...can you toss a link our way?

How is it now?

https://www.twitch.tv/bethesda

There will be several more livestreams across the next couple of days.

last nights VOD: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/139688611

Some combat starting little bit after this, but naturally SPOILERY: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/139688611?t=49m24s

This makes the game look so much better. Is this the PC version?

It's. Later on Twitch streamers go into options to invert... Y? axis while playing and shows off graphics options etc. confirming it's PC. They also accidentally opened developer debug console :D

Thank you. I wish the red-hatted bro could stop shouting over every moment.

I don't have the best audio setup right now but it sounds like the music was leveled out in terms of volume and integrated more smoothly so far. It doesn't seem nearly as intrusive. I'm sure someone else can check this out in more detail though...I'm in the subway with tinny headphones.

Plus it's 60fps.

Zeke gets excited, what can I say :D

Combat music is now more at background for sure and not taking audio landscape over like in demo.

Alright.

I just watched some of that Twitch stream and listened to some of the soundtrack on Spotify.

I'm gonna take a leap of faith on the CD keys deal.

Don't do me dirty Prey. I'm trusting you..... (game seems dope).

E: The second track on the OST "Everything is Going to Be Okay" is fantastic.

Jumped a bit around on the stream (don't want to watch everything or be spoiled too much). Apparently it is running on the high preset @ 1080p/60. There are some minor streaming hick ups, but nothing to go crazy about and the game seems to hold the 60 fps without problems (and maybe it was just the stream in the first place).
Of course this could run on a 1080Ti... but I doubt it...

What's his specs?

As said, no idea. But Dishonored 2 isn't even able to run smoothly on my GTX 1080, so even if this is a high end pc only running at 1080p it is at least a small step forward.

edit:
There is nor preload? Seriously?.... *sigh*

Aiming stuff doesnt bother me, I played Metro games and those were kinda like this slugish aiming.

What bothers me is the constant loud music while encounter enemies.

If there is an option to turn that stuff off I will eventually get this.

Full body awareness is awesome.

Bethesda has said that the music will be fixed

Surprisingly, it already seems to be fixed in the last few links that were posted above you guys' posts. The streams from today.

Maybe it's just me, but Alex reminds me of Gabe Newell.

Licorice-flavoured booze?
The controls are so sluggish it makes it practically unplayable for me, after playing Titanfall 2, it really shows up how bad they are, such a shame.

The preload will be up in the coming hours.

Just got confirmation of that.

Is there an ETA? The game unlocks in AU/NZ in 22 hours and most folks here have crappy ADSL connections. Actually, on that note, you may want to look into the AU/NZ unlock time. It's 1am AEST rather than 12am, which seems like a mistake.

Edit: Never mind about the pre-load. It's live now.

Found the demo really boring. Could be that I was tired and playing late. But once I finally fought a few enemies, I just still wasnt feeling it. Turned it off, and booted up Zeldas instead. Gonna be really hard for any game for awhile after playing Zelda.

I don't know. Did you play Bioshock, System Shock or Deus Ex for the combat? Also, keep in mind that the controls will be fixed in the full version.

I loved Bioshock's combat. The different combinations you could pull off with plasmids and other guns were excellent and big daddy encounters were really entertaining. Maybe this gets a lot better but it's a really poor demo - you want a demo to show off the game, not show it's worst bits.

I feel like I missed the memo that said everyone is expected to pretend the combat in Bioshock was bad. Combat in B2 and Infinite was really fun, especially in B2 where you have tons of diversity in weapons, builds, and plasmids. Also, the combat in the new Deus Ex games is totally fine too, although I play them almost entirely in stealth so I can't really say too much there.

Hoping the demo criticisms really are addressed in the game, but this title has probably slid all the way to end of summer rental territory, firmly out of potential purchase-land.

Well, it's your loss ;)
Imo the combat is fine and reminds me of Bioshock 1 combat. I'm supporting Devs who still make these kind of games. I'm so sick of these cinematic, linear, non-explorable FPS.

Even if the combat is mediocre, I don't care...especially when everything else is amazing.

I'm still excited about the game, but the backlog has gotten too strong. Persona 5 ate an entire month of free time basically. I'm hoping this game turns out terrific and moves a ton of units, if only to show that this genre still grabs eyeballs.

For those watching the PC stream, were we able to see if the game has Controller Support...?

In this day and age, its almost something we'd just assume was in the PC release....but it isn't listed on the Steam page and the devs have made no mention of it, one way or another.

They played it with Xbox Pad and UI had full pad support.

That's understandable, 2017 was an amazing year for gaming so far! And it's only getting better.

PC pre-load is live. 18GB install/17.4GB download.

Edit: Also, a reminder that the game unlocks first in AU/NZ:

VPN instructions will be in the PC performance thread, which will go up come unlock o'clock.

LOL I was watching Gamestop's stream earlier today and I ended up winning a custom PS4 Pro so my day is pretty much made at this point

My mom surprised me with a gift card today celebrating the eventual release of my novel, so I picked this up even though I probably should be focusing on getting my novel finished. >.> Meh, revisions are going faster than anticipated I should allow myself some fun for working hard....

System Shock 2.5 sounds great to me.

I'm probably good for the rest of the year on gaming with this, glad I could get a key for cheap.

Damn that PC stream looked great.
