Being a longtime NaruHina and IchiHime shipper feels fuckin good man. NaruSaku meltdown was probably one of my favorite internet events ever. It was so delicious to finally taste those tears
But yeah, Harry/Hermione is a biggie. I have no idea how anyone thought that would be a thing that might happened when Ron/Hermione was foreshadowed since practically day one, and Harry never really saw her in a romantic light. Liking the IDEA of the pairing? Sure, go ahead. My favorite pairings are usually pure fanon. But these people genuinely believed Harry would end up with Hermione. Pure delusion.

It seems to me like a CW thing. For example, take a look at Supernatural: it got so crazy that pretty much every female character within an age range where the main characters could date her has been killed off. This includes a character who was clearly portrayed as a lesbian, and in season 8 or 9, they went ahead and brought back some one-time guests from season 1 and killed them off. Jared Padalecki's real life wife was a recurring character, who was killed off. Jensen Ackles' real life wife refuses to guest on the show because she knows how the fandom will treat her.
Meanwhile, the fans like to ship the guys together.

Harry and Hermione I do get, but even then, I never got crazy about it...
It has now shot up again with the Superboy Jon version whos like 11 and Robin Damian.
It's the reason why EVERY female dies, not counting the Sheirff. Can't have any women near the brothers, that riles up the J2 fans or obsessive Dean or Sam fangirls.

That were somehow supposed to resonate in spite of, y'know, Cortana steadily going insane over the course of the plot due to mechanical failure?

ATLA shipping wars still amuse me. It probably didn't help the creators helped fuel the Zutara ship, but it made for hilarious, yet vicious fights.

My guess is that since Jack was celibate in the original series, I guess some people (incorrectly) interpreted that to mean that he was gay? He doesn't really have a lot of choices either way. The Scotsman? Ew.

I think it's because it came straight outta left field in an era where "main guy/main girl" was pretty much a given. Our little kid peabrains just couldn't parse it, and some people held on to that confusion and anger far past the end of the series. I don't really mind it though, since Adventure 02 is kinda shit all-around and the prolonged salt over the ending is one of the few joys that series has given me.

This is why Yuri on Ice / Ah My goddess (and a lot of other romantic anime) are so fucking childish and never make the relationship official. Fans of this type of situations and shippers are only in for the ride as long as nothing is confirmed and the characters behave like middle schoolers around each other forever.
Ah yeah, Gorilla versus Doormat. It was funny watching people get worked up over such a terrible manga.
