Ribbon Road, MK8 version. The blue part of the track where it gets all wavy and shit is dumb and not fun. If I wanted to play Wave Race, I'd play Wave Race.

64: Least favorite is probably Banshee Boardwalk. Not terrible, but apart from some ghosts and a fish, not much exciting to offset the tricky corners.

DD: Yoshi Circuit. I don't really have any trouble with it in 8 though, so either the controls make it more manageable, or my skills have improved.

DS: Peach Gardens, though there isn't too much wrong with it, just didn't find it too interesting. Luigi's Mansion could have used more indoor track, rather than mostly muddy woods.

Wii: Didn't play it.

7: Daisy Hills, in that it could be a bit longer. But it's a first cup track so what can you do? 7 doesn't have a lot of truly bad nor truly great stuff.

8: Bone-Dry Dunes. Though I don't like Electrodrome aesthetically, it's layout is good. Hyrule Circuit also fell a bit short.

But:

realistically the worst one is probably out of the original Mario Kart or Super Circuit. Something like Mario Circuit GBA or Bowser's Castle 1 SNES, which everyone forgot because they don't have anything remotely memorable in them.

This is correct.

7's Rainbow Road is easily the worst Rainbow Road in series history. The whole 'extra long track' is a bad gimmick, and combined with the flying vs driving segments - it's just a confused mess.

Yoshi Park is also bad. Just a mess of awkward curves.

Yoshi's Valley purely because the N64 could not handle it. The idea was solid, being that there are a variety of paths to take. The problem is that the N64's cpu is not powerful enough to keep track of who's where, so until you're back on the main path you don't know what place you're in,

It should be mentioned I haven't played a Mario Kart since the original DS version in 2005.

on paper the track is a great idea

in reality though... there's always one route that is faster than all the rest... so everyone takes it and in the end, all the other paths were useless... so yeah

From 8 I dislike Bone Dry Dunes (desert tracks are ugly aesethically and not much fun - Dry Dry Desert isn't good either), Grumble Volcano and Toad's Turnpike. Excitebike and Ice Ice Outpost are pretty bland too. The rest all have their moments.

I think I posted in here before that Grumble Volcano is Certified Trash™ but...

Yeah it's garbage.

MK8 Cheese Land sucks too which is lame because it's a good level in the original.

I never liked Moonlight Highway, or w/e it was called in MK Wii. Game is already too crazy with the rubber banding, but this adds a good dose of claustrophobia to the mix. Bad times.

Someday people will realize that chaining driftboosts all day is actually fun and cool, especially on straightaways where otherwise the only thing to do is hold A and wait for the turn. Boring.

Anyways, N64 Koopa Beach and Kalimari Desert

N64 Rainbow Road - Too long and boring

Wii Mushroom Gorge - The bouncy mushroom segment at the end is utterly terrible and you're praying to the heavens above that you don't get hit by any item

Wii Coconut Mall - Visually bland, and I struggled to tell which way the elevators were going until I was right next to them

SNES Ghost Valley 2 - If you get hit by a blue shell, there's no coming back due to the short length of each lap

Unsurprisingly, many come from Mario Kart Wii. MKWii's tracks range from mediocre to bad, I think the only ones I like are Maple Treeway and Moonview Highway.

The Mario Kart 8 version of Rainbow Road 64. They jazzed it up to such a prefect degree that had they not made it a single lap it might be my favourite track ever but that one choice completely ruins it. In stead of a beautiful marathon it's a garbled sprint that completely loses the essence of what made the original so good.

Ideally the MK8 version of N64 Rainbow Road would be two laps, I can agree that one lap feels kinda short.

But it's still so, SO much better than the N64 version. In my opinion it's less "beautiful marathon" and more "boring slog." There's a reason why there haven't been any MK courses anywhere near as long since.

Pretty sure I commented on this thread before but it needs to be repeated, Music Park is so fucking baaaad. I hate the design, I hate the look, and I really really really hate the music.

And of all the stages to bring back in MK8, they choose this one and literally don't change a single thing about it. GAHD!

but it's a piano ?

Wario's Gold Mine on the Wii did this weird think where it would jerk the bike as you transitioned from the turn down the steep hill after entering the underground section. I never experienced in a cart but if you didn't know it was coming on a bike it would screw up the next jump.

Either of the wuhu tracks from 7
Rainbow Road Wii
Rainbow Road 64(8)(50-150cc/mirror)

Quite a few wii tracks in general with those bouncy physics.

I guess people haven't played the SNES and GBA installments in a while. Very few 3D tracks are worse than the majority of those.

MKDS/Wii Yoshi Falls, definitely definitely. Neither a fun nor interesting course, and barely has anything to do with Yoshi to boot. Just never liked it at all, and was never particularly happy when it came up online in MKWii.

While SNES/GBA tracks are obviously like objectively worse, I don't feel as comfortable judging them as tracks since 90% of their problems are with the consoles they are on rather than any track design issues. Same with MK64 to a lesser extent, but I certainly wouldn't fault anyone who hated on, say, 64 Rainbow Road.

Wii probably has the best set of original tracks in the franchise, though I kinda can't stand Grumble Volcano. It's just boring to look at and not much better to play on, though it's a bit better in 8.

200cc in 8 Deluxe is nightmare. Prime examples:

The final segment of that candy track.
That cheese themed track.
First two turns in that Bowser City track, aswelll.
Last U turn in that Animal Crossing seasons track
