Stock-Age: Stocks, Options and Dividends oh my!

Mittal beats estimates by 10%, but drops 5%. Alright then... Biggest loss for me at the moment in my account, hopefully the steel sectors recovers a bit this year.

NVDA $200 Moon shot mission log day 3:

Secondary boosters burn successful. Second stage separation complete. We have a good trajectory and are in stable Earth orbit. Will continue to build momentum for slingshot out of planetary gravity. Mission is green for Moon, stand by for Q2 2018 results in 3 months.

What about this huge ransomware attack…

Good for bitcoin as more criminals pile in to use it!??
Good for MS as people will upgrade Windows??
Good for the anti-virus companies??

I'm surprised how well market is holding up. Seems like nothing can make it go down. We must be in the final stage of the bull market now.

completely agree, at this point whatever does bring the market down (if it happens) will probably be something nobody could have expected

ya, dang... I have some buys set at 120-125 on NVDA. was hoping for a steeper pullback after that last rise, maybe it'll still happen.

Continued automation will bring things down. It won't be an event, it will be the slow creep of people stopping looking for work outright, which is hidden by how we calculate unemployment numbers.

At the same time, a lot of game changing tech hasn't reached mass market yet. Automated cars, 3D printing, more stuff on the sharing economy, drones.

But real unemployment is going to be something that will reveal itself slowly.

edit: Google Finance is all messed up. Now it shows I own SCTY and GS. I sold GS many months ago. It also says I'm up 15% on VUG, I'm probably up 1% or so. Wtf.

I'm not sure what you use Google Finance for, but I use it solely for the news-gathering bot. I wouldn't use it to manage a portfolio, that's for sure.

I dont know man, i feel like Tesla, nvidia and SNAP are ticking time bomb

I don't think it is all fair to group Tesla and Nvidia with the likes of Snapchat.

Is anyone in BMY? Down 25% roughly right now from highs and it starting to look like it may have bottomed. Thinking about getting in.

I don't think Nvidia a timebomb either. I mean it's way up but they keep on crushing earnings. In retrospect Nvidia was undervalued and I hate myself every day for not jumping in at 23 dollars lol. Tesla I'm 50/50 on. I'm not in the stock, won't get in the stock, think it's way overvalued but it keeps going up.

Not a fan of Snap though. Facebook will just rip them off and push them out.

I am not currently but i have been a few times so far in 2017. Basically getting long after their drops and taking profits pretty quickly

I'm wondering when NVDA finds its top at this point.

Warren Buffett told me many years ago "Be fearful when others are greedy. Be greedy when others are fearful." This NVDA greed train is getting too crazy.

TSLA is the literal embodiment of the "RISK BIG, WIN BIG!" philosophy in the market. In 5-10 years, Tesla will either not exist or it will have a $1 trillion market cap. There is no in-between for them.

NVDA is doing good. I'm in for the long haul. They've teamed up with Audi, they're using nvidia chips for their selfdriving cars, looking at a 2020 release.
I don't see a reason why nvidia would go down from here. Why wouldn't they just stay at 120?

Nah, TSLA could stabilize at 150B cap in ten years or so if things go well. They have way too much on their plate to reach anything like a trillion. Beyond that, impossible to say. A possibility would be a merger, but I don't see that happening in the next five years.

I'm not going to be happy if a Trump impeachment is what kills this decade-long bull market. Of all the possible bullshit scenarios that kill a bull market, it would be the biggest imaginable bullshit.

I don't think this will completely tank the market. It ran a little ahead after the Trump nomination. Earnings have been good so the downside shouldn't be high.

10 to 20 percent correction wouldn't be the worst thing for long term. Corrections needed from time to time.

So how did everyone do today? Everything was on sale.

I dumped all my position today afternoon. Glad I sold Amazon at 957.

Lets see what happens tomorrow. But I am excited, because I got some cash loaded for exactly this type of situation, and if the fire sale continues, I will wait and see. Slowly start buying, but not anytime soon.

Yesterday was a bloodbath, curious to see how the rest of the week is going to turn out.

Since I only invested in tech giants and S&P 500 I'm not that concerned, I can buy cheaper if it goes down.

First Solar going down again sucks though.

I'm thinking of investing $10k in S&P EFI via Vangaurd - I just keep holding off cause the damn market seems to be kinda unpredictable. Would you guys hold off until there are more losses or would you invest like nowish?

People in your position are usually better off investing immediately. Some big market downturn is inevitable, but usually people lose more money by missing out on gains while waiting on the sidelines.

As long as you keep your money in index funds through a recession, you will be fine. The market eventually recovers. The people who get in trouble are the ones who spook and pull their money out.

Hmm, seems like it goes up again / neutral at least.

We'll see.

Ya my bad, i judged based on hoe the premarket looked. Surprisingly everything is holding up quiet well.

btw does anyone hold BABA? I thought the earning today were great except they missed the EPS target. But good growth and price still fell.

I'm in for the very long run. 5+ years and probably more .

I think it's gonna give me plenty of satisfaction same as fb, amzn and aapl. I don't know if I'll ever sell these stocks...maybe one day. XD

I don't know how these marketers got my numbers, but this is the third time in a few months that some broker is calling me about opportunities. And then they each use Nvidia as an example. "We got in at 50 and sold at 90, that is the kind of results you want!" Sure, if it wasn't at 130+ now dude. His final line did make me laugh "I can lay out what I can offer you, and if you are not interested we can part as professionals." "No, you don't have to, I am not interested." *dude on the other side hangs up without saying a word*

So figured I'd ask here since you guys might be more knowledgeable, is bit coin a bubble? It seems like its going crazy high with no end in sight, too late to invest?

Last couple days is why I don't bail out of the market anymore. Already recovered. I still think we need a correction though.

Is it ok to put bitcoin news in here only it passed $2k yesterday evening UK time?? It's at $2077 right now. I was expecting a pullback around 2200 but i'm not so sure now.

What's the reason behind the rise recently? Is there actually something going on there, or are people riding the hype pushing it higher and higher?

I'm no expert but from what I've read there's a myriad of reasons, hype/FOMO being one. It's slowly becoming more accepted with businesses, banks, investment firms, experts etc but the most interesting article I read recently was about it's rapid uptake in Venezuela, where the government/country/currency are all going down the pan so ordinary folks are turning to bitcoin. Same in other similarly troubled countries around the world.

The problem with bitcoin, is that since it's digitally sourced, competition can materialize pretty much out of nowhere.
