Nintendo Direct focused on ARMS + Splatoon 2 trailer (over)

Ans why shouldn't this be a full price title?

Because as I've mentioned a few times in this thread right now it seems lacking in content. And again like I said many times hopefully this direct goes into full detail regarding what the game has to offer.

People keep on saying this but they don't explain what its lacking.

We already know it'll have 10 characters, story mode, extra modes like 2v2, and a fuck ton of customization with the arms. So what does it lack?

It needs 64 characters, tons of unlockables, and a deep story that puts RPGs to shame.
Sarcasm from me but that's what I read when they say that. Especially the ones that refuse to say what is lacking.

When was story mode confirmed? The only thing I remember shown was a target practice mode. Don't be so defensive all the time, you remind me of SF V hardcore fans.
And 10 characters is pretty low, especially since these characters don't seem to have as much individual quirks as regular fighting game characters and instead rely on gloves, many of which are shared between characters or only offer small difference between them.

If it comes bundled with a new Metroid I will consider buying it.

We actually don't know that it will have a story mode. They said there will be a single player mode of some sort but we don't know how in depth it is or if there is any story to go with it. May just be some sort of arcade mode.

Don't be so dismissive. I agree the game, as shown so far, seems to have gameplay depth but is light on content. This Direct needs to prove that it's a good package to sell me (and I am sure many others) on the game. All we actually have been shown is the normal 1v1 mode, the 2v2 mode, and a target practice mode. That's all great, but it isn't exactly much for a game asking $60. Especially when you compare it to other fighters coming out now like Injustice 2 and Tekken 7 which both have a treasure trove of content, while also boasting a seemingly much larger roster.

Right now the main thing this game has going for it is that it's made by Nintendo and on the Switch, which apparently isn't getting those other fighting games.

Maybe if you did your research instead of saying its low on content you would know it has a story mode because the developers confirmed it.

Also most fighting games start out low with their first title. They also said a lot more fighters would come as well.Plus each character do have quirks like Ribbon girl being able to triple jump, Ninjara having a quick dash, Spring man being able to enhance his abilities and can shockwave, Master Mummy can regenerate HP, Mechanics can hover, and Helix can dodge supers and lot mover nimble due to being stretchy.

Edit: You know what I just give up because it won't change the minds of people who come in here saying its low on content and that it doesn't look like a 60 dollar game. Big budget AAA games really screwed up the mentality of how much a game should cost.

But we know there's more. Why do people keep questioning the game as if they won't have more content in it? That's what this Direct is for. It says a "deep dive". It's a brand new IP in the fighting genre don't compare it to other established IP's.

I'm going to guess that the robot character that was "leaked" in the direct is based on Ape III from Nintendo's Arm Wrestling Arcade game.

As TDLink already mentioned we don't exactly know what the single player content is. Don't go around spreading that it's a full fledged story mode yet.

I didn't say they didn't have quirks, I said they barely compare to most fighting games. SO what if one character can triple jump and is relatively fast while another has super armor and can heal when blocking? The Gundam VS series for example started with 30 characters which not only had variations like those in arms between characters but each also has their own ranged, melee, and spacial moves. The game has 1vs1, 2vs2, and in the latest installment even 3vs3! it has a deep mission mode with a light story where you take on a wide range of challenges against other playable units and non playable mook and boss units.

Injustice is another game with a lot of differences between characters that started on PS360 with 24 characters and a lot of stuff to do.

Only recent example of a game that started with a limited cast were Arc's (a small developer to boot) Persona 4 Arena and blazblue which both started with 12 characters but no one can deny that they had a lot of content going for them and were sprite based based 2D games which take a long time to develop.

And it's natural for what people perceive to be worth $60 is subjective. We have a lot of options right now and video games aren't cheap so yeah expect people to ask why they should go with this. I plan on buying it but it's not hard to see why some might have hesitations with this game.

Arguing about how much content is in arms..

Mere hours before the big arms content blow out.

Guys. Your better than this.

Hopefully it's not online only. Nintendo hates NAT restrictions, so I'd be locked out.

Considering the success of their Splatoon Testfires we may even see something similar like that. Sounds like good publicity.

If it is a demo though I hope it has some online capabilities. Local multiplayer only even if it's just a demo would probably suck for a lot of people nowadays.

I'm personally keeping my demo expectations pretty low. If anything, given the release timing my best guess is that we get an ARMS demo available at some Best Buys around the country duuring E3 week, similar to what they've done in previous years.

Otherwise I'm expecting/hoping for a deeper look at what single player modes this will have, and just generally a longer look into the game's final UI, menu style, just a better feel of what's available when you first boot up the game. We've seen enough weirdly-paced demo matches for people to get a grip on the basics of the gameplay, please don't continue to belabor that.

I didn't know about this game or characters and i looked it up.... I'll be pretty bummed if Nintendo doesn't make this pair a character in ARMS, it would be so cool.

I think we'll know exactly how much content it does have after the Direct today, so the conversation should probably be somewhat tabled until after that. Clearly there is more or a Direct wouldn't be necessary. However, that doesn't mean that there will be so much more that it justifies the price. Right now they really haven't made the case that it's got the content to merit being a full price $60 fighting game when you look at what the competitors are doing. So I am very hopeful and optimistic they will make that case today. If they don't...then that's a problem. But again, let's wait and see what gets shown in a few hours. This conversation is kind of pointless until then.

IMHO, the eyes especially look a lot alike. I was looking to see If there were any Punch-Out/Arm Wrestling fighters who would be a good fit and Ape III/Alice stuck out.

I know some people were hoping for an Ultra Hand reference as well, since that would fit quite easily.

Between those, Punch Out, and yes, even Lanky Kong, there's a lot of potential for a Nintendo guest of some sort. It might be nice to let the game stand on its own, though.

(besides a Luffy guest appearance)

Ape 3 is a good catch.

I'll be working so I have the choice of reading about the direct on my lunch break or waiting til I get home and watching it.

Only nintendo can tell me otherwise.

Also, it's pretty clear it's not ape if you use the full picture we have:

Probably a PS4 label on the top left corner on the boxart

Calling it that the thing with golden goggles and the blue hood is a Snifit

EDIT: Beaten?!? D:
Hah, well I think I have said that when it first appeared anyway

Fwiw I think the blue area is just the background and not part of the character, there was a diagonal divide between the characters
