Nintendo Direct focused on ARMS + Splatoon 2 trailer (over)

While it's a platformer, not a fighter, Kabuki Quantum Fighter on the NES uses that concept.

A HAL labs game, no less!

Finally a noteworthy playable brown character from Nintendo. And her design is not bad!
Out of the three Byte and Barq is probably my favorite. Kid Cobra is the worst design in the game and possibly the only bad one.

I like the versusmodes and the local lobby, and I like that the arcade GP mode isn't just fights. Although I was hoping for a story mode as well.

Splatoon 2 single player seems as brilliant as the first, perhaps with a better story too.

This is adorable looking.
This feels kinda weird. Didn't think they'd have hands.

So Byte and Barq might be trying to prove their mettle, eh? They really remind me of the pilots of Politank Z from Waku Waku 7...
Same.

Finally? There was also Elma from Xenoblade X.

I think this well sell well, but probably not the 4.5-5m that Splatoon ended up doing (but I hope it does way more).

Then when the inevitable thread pops up about its success, the usual suspects will appear saying, "see? it isn't the next Splatoon!"

So which ARMS fighter gets the coveted New Character spot in Smash Bros for NX?

Twintelle seems a bit too similar to Bayonetta
they should add her anyways)
, so probably between Spring Man (lame) and Min Min. One's the mascot, but Min Min seems like she's the fan favorite other than Twintelle. If we somehow got 3 characters, it'd probably be Spring Man, Min Min, and Ribbon Girl.

Spring-Man, he looks the most "basic" of the current roster much like how Ryu was for Street Fighter

Though depending on how much of ARMS' mechanics they want to put in Smash, make the other fighters alternate characters ala Bowser Jr and the Koopalings, even if that means Helix won't be stretchy in Smash

Im really glad theres going to be a 'Test Punch'

These directs reveal very little about how the game actually controls/plays, almost to the point of it putting me off the game entirely.

They revealed this in January when they announced the game.

Punch with a quick motion jab, twist the controller before or during a punch to curve, tilt controllers when you're not punching to move/dodge. Triggers are used for jumps and specials.

It felt incredibly responsive when I played it back in March.

As I said on Twitter:

Probably Spring Man/Ribbon Girl alts.
In a perfect world,
Helix
.

I saw this thread, but I didn't pay attention to it. Saw the ARMS direct on the sidebar and just finished watching it. ARMS looks kind of cool. I still feel a little iffy with it, but I like a couple of the new character designs, particulary Helix and the girl who fights with her hair.

In the direct, there is no mention about playing online with friends.
I'm a bit worried here. Looks like I can't team up with a friend online and play against others :/

anyone wanna cross reference locations? Minmin seems to be Shanghai

Twintelle speaks French, Minmin speaks Mandarin, Byte & Bark speaks English (UK?), Ninjara speaks Japanese, Ribbon Man speaks English as well. Not sure what language Cobra speaks. I suppose those should correspond to the cities they're in.

The chance Arms has is the Party Mode and the fact that it's the first Nintendo release after Mario Kart. With a good marketting push and good word of mouth helped by it getting continued support, who knows.

Between bombing and Splatoon 2, there's room for Arms being successful

Does anyone have a picture of the ARMS main screen?

I noticed there's a "friends" option, but they didn't go into detail about that. At first I thought Party Mode was online with friends, but that's only randoms, right?

Everyone's said Spring Man, but I want to add that it'll be him and Ribbon Girl as equal "alts" in the same way WFT and all those Fire Emblem characters are.

The way they were announced makes me think you'll never get one without the other.

Honestly I'd prefer Ribbon Girl to just be her own character slot as a semi-clone of Spring Man. She looks to have different animations and mannerisms that don't exactly fit SM.

Not sure if this was posted

http://nintendoeverything.com/arms-...-clear-fourth-level-to-access-ranked-matches/

Grand Prix was one of several modes announced for ARMS during the game’s Direct yesterday. Over on the game’s website, a noteworthy tidbit is shared. Grand Prix mode has seven levels of difficulty, so it should keep you busy for awhile.

You’ll want to spend time in Grand Prix if you’re interested in Ranked Matches. In order to participate, you need become a champion above level 4.

Cool. According to the EDGE article the higher difficulty AIs are really hard and once they couldn't even get a hit in. Hopefully it's not the cheating kind of hard fighting game AI.

It's always cheating >_>

Played that KOF AI and these fools will counterpoke my button with a god damn super.

No thanks :v

ARMS will outsell MK8D by the end of the year.

They used AI to balance the game so it remains to be seen as I'm sure you haven't played the full game yet.

I know it remains to be seen, but historically speaking, the AI in fighting-type games is normally programmed around reading your inputs for whatever reason.

You can exploit this, but it normally encourages play that isn't very good against humans that learn how to adapt.

Historically have fighting games used AI matches to balance the game?
