Activision: Destiny 2 PC version will launch late, still determining exact date

So, if the PC release is delayed, I assume they're confident this won't be a repeat of 'Nilla Destiny?

Because if the first-impressions after launch are like D1's, the PC version is DOA.

This is stupid.

And while Sony could be behind this it's doubtful since Xbox is releasing same day as well.

well this move will result in the whole streamer community going Ps4 instead of PC
that is not insignificant (as some of their follower will follow them)

I mean, you're missing the point. He is saying that people will go to pc from ps4 because destiny is a shooter and shooters are better with kb+mouse, while that does not happen at all in any considerable numbers

CS:GO is a PC only game (yeah, I know about that irrelevant last gen port that never got updated at all) and Overwatch is a Blizzard game.

And btw, Destiny is what you would call a 'lame shooter' if that is your criteria.

People who play COD and Battlefield haven't had to switch over because there was always a PC version.

People like me who would prefer to play on PC with kb+m and high framerates had no choice but to either sit out Destiny 1 or buy it on console.

Nah, they already have systems in place in destiny 1 preventing you from using gear you don't have "licenses" to. They exist within your inventory but are greyed out. It isn't far fetched at all.

Destiny 1 only allowed same family moves. What systems are in place that allows someone to move a PS3 save to XB1 and retain gear?

I've also never seen greyed out gear and I put a decent amount of time into the game across all expansions.

so we're back to square one: there are dozens like you

outside the hardcore gaming forums, the two demographics don't cross over. Destiny will be fine in both platforms

How long did GTAV take to get on PC? And how did it do/still doing?

I think they'll be fine regardless how long it takes. Sucks for us to wait that long to play on PC though. But it will still sell just fine I reckon.

CSGO peaks at like 500k concurrent users in a day. Overwatch's most active community is on PC. FPS that aren't lame do well on PC.
It should be no surprise that shooter franchises like COD and BF that have become more console-focused over time do better on console.

What do you mean by "dozens of you"? Are you saying very few people will migrate from console to PC? That seems like an absurd statement. You can argue that the console versions will still have a healthy base of players without arguing that barely anybody will move to PC.

GTA franchise has long history on PC and loyal following.

Destiny doesn't have either in PC space.

GTA had a strong history on PC, so it did good despite the massive wait just for a confirmation of a port.

Destiny is an untested console-based FPS in a highly saturated market. Out of other noteworthy console-focused FPS, CoD is dead on PC and BF is declining hard as of late. Delayed release is basically suicide.

I bought Destiny 1 and TTK on PS4, they were ok games. I was getting roped into playing part 2 on PC with some other friends, but hopefully I can avoid the launch fervor and sit it out.

Does it being delayed for however long on PC suck?...Yep

Does that mean I'm gonna buy the game on PS4 or XB1 then buy it again on PC?...Nope

I was going to wait until an eventual definitive edition including expansions anyway. You just know there will be $120 ultimate editions for day 1 buyers, and I'm not about that life anymore. There are / will be other great games to play.

Not exactly shocking, seems like a common trend for PC releases of titles/franchises that were popular console exclusives. The unfortunate part is that, unless there are some kind of save transfer options, it feels like it will permanently impact the PC population.

The ultimate day one edition is $250.

I wonder how many people pre-orderd for $250 on PC and now are finding out it's gonna be late to a damaged community.

We're committed to the PC version, kinda.

I've surprised myself today. First I thought they were going to name Steam when they talked about the PC community bit at the end of the presentation (actually forgot about Blizzard, the fact they have a store and the fact they'd want to capitalise).

Now I'm disappointed about this like I shouldn't have seen it coming :/ Destiny 1 came out on four different consoles simultaneously. But drop two consoles and add a PC version and it's too much work at once for them.

I played the whole of Destiny 1 through on PS4 but I'm not gonna double dip. That definitely sends the wrong message and I urge anybody else not too. A few weeks or months isn't years like GTA V was.

Except it's not. A pseudo mmo shooter will thrive on pc. The division would be dead on pc if it wasn't for the loot giving it legs. Destiny is unique from cod and bf, and especially being placed in a client next to diablo and wow? It will do fine. PC gamers love numbers.

The delay seems like they want to get the PC version right.

If it released at the same time and was horribly optimized people would be absolutely frantic.

I'll take the delay if what we get is a quality game.

I agree being on Bnet is an actual plus due to the Diablo/WoW/OW/HS audience seeing it.

The delay + console-based design like heavy usage of ADS is what makes me think it's not gonna do too hot.

Not that strong, I remember GTA4's single-core performance mess.

Wasn't speaking about technical port performance but GTA's always done well sales-wise. I remember a lot of adults who didn't even play games would end up buying a GTA title here and there for their shitty computers.

It's not like the game comes out tomorrow.

They should allocate resources to the PC version to ensure to comes out on time. Pretty simple really.

Odds are it's a server side thing. They probably won't have a solid idea of what to expect until the beta hits.

It better be reasonably close. I hate when new content is split between platforms like playing the international version of a MMO / phone game. Nothing is new to you but you can't access it until way later.

I'd be surprised if the PC pop puts a hurt on their infrastructure anymore than the console versions.

The most likely scenario is they cut resources to PC in order to ensure Sept 8 release for consoles.

This

They are likely under pressure to get the game out considering they pushed it a year already as per the original contract.

Bungie dosen't normally release games on PC if they want to take extra time to make sure the port is good then let them.

meh I only play single player, and this looks good but not "I have to buy day one" with a 30 fps PS4 version (dont have Pro) when I can wait and presumably get 1440p at 60 fps on my 1080 Ti.

plus presumably they do a lot of patching after day 1 console version, so its possible the game is better later on (like Mass Effect Andromeda, though I doubt its as bad looking in terms of animation etc partly because they dont have 1200 of them)

Well, I was kind of looking forward to the game but between Battle.net'S retail pricing and this delay I am out. There are plenty of other games to play. Maybe if there is a meaningful sale at some point I will pick it up to take a look but since it's a closed platform store, it not likely to happen.

Dest2 PC better have rock-solid performance and robust anti-cheat as a result. NO excuses if you're going to delay the release.

I can't see it being delayed to long. A month or less, to be honest.

If it was a month or less I doubt they would have even said anything now. They would see how far they can get and then if they still have to a month before launch say "hey guys PC needs a couple more weeks sorry." The way this has been handled sounds like they never intended it for launch, and I wouldn't expect it very quickly after.
