Destiny 2 Reveal Livestream [Over]

I know. I tried deleting the stupid chroma shit I have cause I don't bother with those. Deletes 1 by 1. I'm not deleting hundreds of those 1 by 1.

Hahhah, a friend of mine accidentally discarded 500 of those Queen's Reputation items as he thought (reasonably) that they would be used by holding square, just like Variks Reputation items...

So deleting a whole bunch at a time is also bad :D

True. That's why again just a simple confirmation box or some way to pick how many would be fine.

hmm,

so far a little disappointed to be honest.

Enimies are mostly the same, still inside our solar system, no mention of the "the stranger".

PvP wasn't my strong point, even now only play when quests require it, but dropping to 4v4 on the map size they showed, talk about run, run some more, stop for breath and then gun,

PVE is where I spend most of my time, so interested on the new patrol area spaces, just hope everything isn't baby stepped for you, I want to find stuff on my own not have it marked on my map as "hay look not so secret an area over there"

Biggest thing is they brought back many things but as Cayde-6 says, Mainly (not) my stuff which is a bit of a downer, especially as unless I decided to go Naked, whers the stuff I was wearing when the attack happened hmm??

yes Yes done to death, but Bungie stated fresh start and then used most of the same stuff anyway (eneimes, art style etc), just not for us!

Will see what the beta is like, still got it on pre-order, but tepid so far on what they have shown.

I was in the just add D2 as an expansion to D1 camp, instead of doing a complete seperate game, but man it seems it is more like an expansion but not attached to D1, which confuses me somewhat.

Guided games I think is a brill idea and a very positive start for new players and old ones kept out of the end game stuff in D1. Hope it works out the way it should.

With all the retoric about being held back by PS360 I don't think the changes have been that massive considering the machines they are now "only" running on. I was expecting more I suppose from being released form the constrainties of low memory and processer resource, and yet we are stuck with 4 palces, really again! Even bigger areas doesn't cut it for me, should be more places to go to.

Ah well back to D1, its ZUR day after all, see if I can get to 5,000 hours before Sep8.

Prime example of the shitposting that goes on in every Destiny thread right here. Take it in. Destiny threads are full of this shit gaming side.

What amazes me is the level of immaturity and obscene waste of time one must have to come in here and make what they feel is a clever joke about a product they give zero fucks about. Whats worse is he/she is more than likely a young adult and still displays this level of middle school childish tactics.

so, my #hottake on the reveal:

- graphics were in line with what I expected. PS4/X1 is still the 'baseline' and will be the limit that holds everything back, but they manage to improve quite a lot. And it still looks like Destiny.
- I did hope for 60 FPS on console, but given the hours I put in D1 I`ll manage with 30.
- 4v4 PvP: will have to play that to get a feel for it. I'm a big fan of some of the 6v6 modes
- no more 'back to orbit', yay!
- play-areas seem much bigger; but based on the map still use the same underlying technology with areas linked together. New patrol stuff sounds good to me.
- Loved seing 'outposts' and other NPCs hanging around
- I hoped for a new subclass, but it seems that Bungie rather 'changed' an existing class for gameplay reasons. I'm okay with that. bladedancer was becoming pretty useless and sunsinger / defender were often 'key' in cheaping out certain raid moments.

I'd love to know what it is about Destiny that really, really upsets people, and why the chronic shit posting is allowed.

"Is this an expansion or the sequel?"
Read the fking thread title, or are we now assuming the intelligence of these GAF users is on par with your average YouTube commenter?

While I'm glad we're not going back to orbit, I'm weirdly going to kinda miss it.

It was a nice little breather with good serene music before your next battle.

Watching footage from the strike right now. Several things are standing out to me.

One of them is the ghost, litterally every line so far these first 12 minutes have been a bad joke :/

Okay, done watching now. Overall I feel quite dissapointed about that strike

Thoughts -

  • Looks very much like Destiny 1. There are improvements, but I was really struck by just how much it looks like D1 as it's being played.
  • The Vex seem like they are ripped straight from D1? I don't think I saw any new unit types. And the old ones seems like they were pretty much ripped straight from D1 in terms of animations and AI.
  • UI also seemed very much like it's more or less the same as from D1. I think some stuff has been moved. I actually quite like the D1 UI, so it's not like this is really a negative for me, but it still strikes me as weird that they would change it so little from D1.
  • Overall the strike looked and felt like a strike you'd see in D1. Was hoping to see something like dynamic puzzles or large scale combat areas with something other than foot soldiers.
  • I cannot believe that the boss was pretty much just a bulletsponge with adds. Like seriously wtf. Phase 1 - Kill adds when they spawn, rest of the time shoot boss and duck behind cover. Phase 2 - Kill adds when they spawn, jump to avoid the floor for 2 seconds every half minute, rest of the time shoot boss and duck behind cover. Phase 3 - Kill adds when they spawn, rest of the time shoot boss and duck behind cover or run away from boss.

I'm seeing so much hate but I just don't get it.... the reveal was better than anything d1 has to offer. I'll take it and see you all on release, lol.

I've been getting a real kick out of watching the comments from my former D1 clan. Former because, hilariously, they booted me from the clan after I got into a heated argument with a couple other members about the amount of content just before Rise of Iron. I argued it was more like D1's original DLC rather than TTK, but they adamantly swore up and down that it was going to be more content than TTK! Annnnd it wasn't. Annnd they forgot to boot me from PSN group chat so I've been lurking.

Right after the stream today one of those very people who I was arguing against back then wrote a freggin' wall o' text in group chat complaining, as some have done here, that the amount of content in Destiny 2 is less than D1 DLC. That began a multi-hour bitchfest by the rest of the clan.

I facepalmed so hard I think I cleared my sinuses for the rest of my life.

So fucking glad that people can't use Special weapons as crutches in Destiny 2, even more so than the current system in D1. Bungie has gradually been shifting their balance ideology of power weapons back to how Halo handles them and I am ecstatic about that. They matter even less now with the emphasis on always have a long range/close range primary weapon combo. This is the most hopeful I've been of Destiny being competitively balanced ever.

Also, the sound design in Destiny 2 has so much oomph. A lot of the weapons and sound effects in D1 were very shallow sounding so I'm glad they've gone with a more punchy soundscape.

I'm not. Not one damn bit. I'm glad. I'm overjoyed to see that gone. It was constant go to orbit, go to tower, go to orbit, go to earth, go to orbit, go do strike, go to orbit.....I could go on and on but you get the point. That to me was one of the most annoying issues I had with Destiny 1 besides the lack of cutscenes and lack of the ability to read the lore from dead ghosts in game.

That question gets asked cause it looks like more of an expansion pack than a fully fledged sequel. It basically looks like what bungie did to destiny with the taken king, where they updated the base core game while keeping all the framework intact. That's why people are asking that question.

What part of that relates to their persistent inability to read the "2" in the thread title and have their question answered?

You could also say the same about Civ V to Civ VI, XCom to XCom 2, Human Revolution to Mankind Divided. People are quite quick to understand what is and isn't a sequel for those franchises despite the same factors applying.

Something about Destiny just seems to make people drop serious IQ points.

Damn, even the UI looks near enough identical...

It makes me very conflicted. I can't stand how similar the UI looks but at the same time loved Destiny's UI and can't think of a logical reason to change anything about it. Same with the art design/graphics in general. It all looks amazing to me but at the same time just doesn't feel "new".

This game better knock it out of the park content wise or some of the "lol DLC" claims maybe won't be so unfair.

I'm part of the community and I don't want this.

They can't "listen to the community" on this because the community is very mixed. I love that everything feels and plays the same in both.
Well I'd guess your opinion is in the minority. Gun is OP in crucible so let's Nerf it and make it crap in PVE for no reason.. Like really come on.

I think they know that, they're just rhetorically asking to wonder aloud, what sets Destiny 2 apart from TTK in terms of additional content. FWIW Destiny 2 is hardly the first game to get this treatment. See just about every Splatoon 2 thrad.

I think that's on you though, it's functionally great so why does it need to be something completely different for the sake of being new ? The UI in Destiny is so good and the only way they can improve upon it is by making the menu come up faster and allowing multi deletion for everything (some things only got deleted one at a time) that's about it I guess.

As for the art it brings about a consistency, the spire will still look like the spire. Vex constructs will still look like they are made of similar stuff. If they didn't then it will bring up the question, why didn't it look like that before ? Kind of the inconsistency you see in Ridley Scott's Alien movies where he changes things to make them look new but it breaks the universe's consistency.

Is there a thread or article with a good, concise summary of the details of this stream? I want to link it to my colleagues who are unlikely to want to watch an hour long Destiny livestream, yet still interested in the details.

One thing worth noting is that three of the stats present in Destiny 1 - strength, intellect and discipline - have been ditched. Now, you only have armour, agility and recovery to worry about when it comes to your Guardian's base stats. This is a sensible tweak to my mind, as the effect of the stats in Destiny 1 was vague at best.

D2writeup

Hmm reading some of the info now dripping out, there seems to be a lot of changes that we can't yet see until we actually play and no one seems to be able to show the new layout.

BUT the new warlock Super for sunsinger replacement seems OP as hell
Warlock master race!

Good call. It would be weird to see familiar stuff getting extreme redesigns. ..And to be honest, I'm sure there is quite some stuff we havent seen yet.

The artstyle is a big part of the game's appeal (to me); not sure why people think that they would change that.

I wouldn't expect them to change anything in pertinence to art style because they don't need to. Destiny 1 to Destiny 2 is in a really weird spot because they did so much right in regards to the appearance of the game. It looks great so there's no incentive to change it but not changing it makes it feel too safe/stale.

What's really going to make this game feel like a full-on sequel is the change to gameplay systems and new content. The former looks like a substantial upgrade but if the latter isn't satisfactory then it won't be enough for many, including myself.

I'm literally saying that it's a "me" thing, and I thought that I made that clear. I just feel like I'm not the only one that feels that way on a first glance of Destiny 2 and I can at least understand some of the knee jerk reactions. The difference being that I actually tried to explain how I feel about what I saw versus the "lol DLC" shitposts.

I've been wondering about this, but why don't we really see games that offer either 4K/Checkerboard 4K with 30 fps and 1080p with 60fps? Surely the Pro should be able to do that? Or at least Scorpio?

I doubt it will happen on Scorpio and it's a shame though. Is it all because it's not "fair" for the people that have it at 30fps?

Because it won't be fair in multiplayer if pro/Scorpio players have twice the frame rate.

Well, we did already see an ocean-covered moon with massive buildings, and some very colorful looking new areas, and the most 'real life location' yet (EDZ). Sense of scale seems to be bigger as well. I would say that their expanding the look of the game quite a bit already.

And agreed; new locations / vista's are nice and all but the underlying systems will have to prove their worth.

I don't understand why people are so mad at people complaining that this looks like DLC. Because in a lot of ways it does! The drive by posts don't help but neither do the blanket "this is a shitpost no criticism allowed" responses.

I think one of the biggest challenges this game faces is the fact so many people played SO MUCH of the first one which was light on content for much of its life and anything that looks familiar is something seen a million times over already thanks to grinding the same old strikes and missions.

Beyond that, the UI is almost identical. From what we've seen there are no new enemy factions and to me personally, different variations of Cabal still just read as "another Cabal" that I've fought over and over. There's no new class and the subclass reworks didn't look all that crazy besides Captain America shield Titan. The new Warlock super is cool but we've had swords before. It's not a big oh wow that's new and exciting moment.

Most of the areas shown feel like treading old ground. Architecture and assets look the same as those seen a million times after running the same strikes over and over in D1. The new areas like titan look unique and exciting but they haven't been as prominent in the footage released. All the QoL improvements are great but feel like they could have been in a big patch/overhaul release like you see in other 'games as a service'.

This is supposed to be a sequel worthy successor and not just another expansion which is a hard thing to achieve when the first game is introducing everything for the first time but there doesn't seem to be enough new on top here. There's no completely new type of activity, I'm still hearing Raids.. Strikes.. Missions. Which is fine, but it's not new.

The biggest change is getting what looks like a large, cinematic campaign which was sorely missed from the first game. But for many I'm sure it's more of a "oh finally" moment. Personally I'm excited for a story that fleshes out the world and delivers on the potential promised in the first game. The larger play spaces with what looks like a more fleshed out world with more NPC's / outposts look great too. I'm still looking forward to the game but I'm lowering my expectations. I wasn't blown away like I hoped.

The problem is people are reacting to what we have been shown, and what we've been shown was largely samey to D1. The way Bungie spoke about the game also didn't help. "We're adding... we're improving... a new strike.." It's on them to make people see this as valuable and sequel worthy.

Don't really help they decided to boast about opening it to a new market just to slap them in the face hours later lol...

Having played WoW for 7 years and Destiny for 2 years. That statement is a load of crap.
See, it's posts like these that turn the thread toxic. Why can't we agree to disagree without shitting on each other's opinions? You don't agree, fine, but do we have to be dicks to each other?

hmmh not impressed with what i've seen.. kinda liked the first game (massively disappointing story campaign though), and i hoped they'd really hit it out of the park with the sequel.

i dunno.. suddenly the art style looks absolutely hideous as well, even though i didn't have a problem with it in the first game. weird.

I like what I saw .. but at the same time am a bit worried why Bungie chose to revamp the existing supers?

I'd much rather see a new subclass. But I guess I'll have to play it myself to experience the whole thing.

Rather disappointed in seeing the same enemies again. Hive, Cabal, Fallen and Vex. Surely there's much more in the Destiny universe?

All in all, presentation was great and it looks great graphic wise. But can't shake that disappointing feeling and I don't know why?

The delay for PC sucks but it's not like that shit doesn't happen more often and it's not what most people are worried about. I'm just happy that it come to pc at all this time around.

Me personally am just going to double dip as my friends are kinda split on both platforms.

As for what I'm more worried about is the way things are looking. I'm pretty sure that if i showed footage of that strike to my friends without telling them it's Destiny 2 that they might think it's destiny 1 footage.

I was watching a few YouTube videos of the new Crucible mode and I have to say it gave me a strong feeling of COD for some reason. Maybe it was the design/aesthetic of the map? I know it was only one map so....

I do wish that there was more than 1 new subclass but it's nice to see some new skills added.

I can't wait for this to roll out. I'll probably get a PS Pro and a 4k monitor if the game shines in a higher resolution. Also - why can't it be native 4K? Isn't The Division (open world, rpg) a native 4k, 30 FPS title with the Pro patch? Just asking because I see a lot of "checkerboard" talk.

Well yeah, I agree with some of the complaints but those who would get a fresh feel also got fucked over for who knows what reasons.

I just hope the game recieves good impressions and won't be flopped out the gate because their mismanagement...

I'll wait but it's a shame regardless as I'm really looking forward to more Destiny:3
