Honest question though. Why can't they release Destiny 1 for pc? Or do they intend to close shop for Destiny 1 once the sequel is out?

Destiny 1 was already a big gamble for Bungie to get out of the door (with very mixed results to boot because of all the issues they had regarding scrapped content etc), and if you look/read some of the GDC talks you`ll notice that they really wasted a lot of time getting it up and running on PS3/X360. Also support a 5th launch platform would probably be too big of a gamble. To port it now probably won't be worth the investment. Destiny 1 support is pretty much finished; there won't be any more new content.

Finally watched some strike footage. The crane/ mining threats were cool, but aside from that it just seemed like Venus, complete with an Atheon like boss at the end whose name was Protheon. I'm still in Day One, but the strike didn't really seem great.

Honestly, except for the mining machine environmental threat, I could be convinced it was for a new expansion strike from looks.

Ghost dialogue also seemed too silly.

Shit, after watching some Striker Titan gameplay, I might have it be my main in 2, after barely using them in 1. The new Fist of Havoc looks great.

Uncharted 2. So... the same protagonist, same guns, more cinematic...
Clearly different setting and look. That's the problem people have with Destiny 2, the visual identity is far too simular to Destiny 1.

Every uncharted is Nathan Drake shooting stuff or it wouldn't be an Uncharted game. That's it's visual identity. However, with each subsequent entry, Naughty Dog is willing to tweak that visual identity to make it apparent that this isn't the game you just played. Those tweaks could involve different art styles, way new areas, or something ass simple as a change to the hud (this is most apparent in destiny 2).

A similar logic applies to the cod games, although to a lesser extent. They all are clearly cod, but unless you're visiting a vastly different setting (ww1, vs ww2, vs future), they all maintain a largely unchanged visual identity. That's why everyone always says cod games look the same as the last one. Unless you're very attentive and bother to do a quick comparison, you'll probably think the same thing.

So when people say Destiny 2 looks like an expansion they say that because Bungie didn't so much to change the game's visual identity. They prescribed to the " don't fix what's not broken model." That's all fine and dandy when your shooting is top notch like Destiny, but you need to do something to the visuals to make consumers feel like they're not doing the same thing over again.

If you want me to elaborate further, I'd be more than happy to. I typed this on my phone just after waking up, so my thoughts might be all over the place.

Edit :
You can apply the same logic to why people thought the recent 2d Mario games and Splatoon 2 vs Splatoon 1 look so similar.

Finally caught up with the new trailer, stream and strike gameplay. Being someone who played over a 1000 hours of Destiny and kinda got burned out on the game (not the game's fault, it was fun while it lasted), I was hoping D2 would be able to reignite that interest.

As of now, I don't see anything that shouts at me to get back in. It looks just like more of the same with some (hopefully good) improvements to the formula, similar to TTK. I was hoping they would completely go a different direction with at least a brand new class, maybe even the ability to play as alien races like the fallen and completely new enemy types we've never fought before with interesting new mechanics for the sequel. Yet all they were fighting were the same Cabal and Vex we've fought a thousand times before. Strike boss fights also look the same as before with lots of bullet sponging. I would've loved a new co-op mode that went alongside strikes/nightfalls.

I don't know, maybe they're holding stuff back to show later but so far from what we've seen, it just looks like yet another expansion pack, this time focusing on the Cabal as opposed to a true sequel. I hope I'm wrong.

This is actually a great 1:1 for how I feel and my circumstance. But I was so dissapointed and frustrated I couldn't be bothered to post more than a paragraph at a time when I felt the need to post.

I've grinded to the point that I can't do it anymore, not even for new exotics. I can't fight the same hoards with minor updates over and over again. The game really needed something that changes the dynamics to get me to come back -- a new race, a new elemental subclass, passive race abilities, a new main class. I'm not interested in playing with the same toys again with a slightly different back drop.

These posts are 10x worse than the "lol DLC" posts.

I disagree, the "lol dlc" posts completely ruined the thread.

People need to use some common sense. It's basically just trolling to call D2 an expansion.

Should people go into every sports and racing game thread and say "lol dlc?"

As opposed to you belittling and sweeping away any legitimate criticism of Destiny 2 looking a bit too safe with your childish post? But it's different when you do it somehow, right?

Yeah, trolling Destiny threads since 2014 is not common sense.

I am all for criticism but calling it "DLC" invalidates any point after.

Why shouldn't a sequel feel like the first game? Bungie is not stupid enough to just throw away the fanbase the first game built.

The point is that posts like the one you made are just as thread-ruining as the ones you claim are ruining the thread. It's extremely hypocritical.

EDIT: Oh, I see you deleted your original post so I think you understand what I'm saying. Good. :p

The problem isn't necessarily that it feels similar. That's to be expected if you have really solid game mechanics. The problem is that it looks very similar.

There was no point. It was a shitty drive-by post meant to flame people that you disagree with.

That said, I do think that the people saying the game looks too similar to D1 aren't exactly being unreasonable. For better or for worse (depending on what you liked/didn't like about D1) the game appears to be very similar. I personally am hoping there is something yet to be revealed that sets Destiny 2 aside from it's predecessor.

Holy shit, this looked way too similar to the first game, i really hope that since they dropped the D1 character conversion thing long time ago that we are not going to be content starved for two years until it becomes a "full game". I'm kinda sad that this is what we got, i was hoping a bigger change in direction, not a game that looks like a rethread of the first game.

Uncharted 2. So... the same protagonist, same guns, more cinematic...

Uncharted 1:
- one tropical island
- three difficulty modes
- no cheats or unlocks
- two enemy types

Uncharted 2:
- 6-10 world locations of varying climates, architectures, etc
- four difficulty modes
- cheats, tweaks and unlocks
- six enemy types

Sequels should look similar to the game they follow.

Let's be real, people just trash Destiny for fun. Been happening for years.

Watched some footage last night and I'm extremely happy with what we've seen so far! The first mission looks great and I love the QoL improvements they've made. It pretty much looks like they hit everything that I wanted them to improve upon from the first game!

Now I'm curious to see what the differences between PS4 Pro/Scorpio and the base version will look like. I know it won't affect FPS and I don't really care about the whole 30 vs 60 thing, but extra particle effects etc... would be neat. Is it September yet?

The Uncharted games all look different. Battlefield 4 looks different to b1. Infamous games all look different.

Mate, I'll try to hop on and do a strike and I feel absolutely nothing. Just can't enjoy that any longer. I've killed the same enemies and ran the same strikes more times than I'd like to admit lol. I was hoping to mainly play crucible at least, but I'm not too crazed about 4v4s.

I mean I said it right in my post that you quoted that they could have done it as an expansion but it would have meant slow content for 2-3 years.

And you completely disagree with what? That games don't use dropped ideas in the sequel?

My bad, I meant I disagreed that it's normal for sequels to MMO type games to have identical mechanics and just be new content in the same packaging. That's what expansions are for, and even they tend to add big new mechanics. I may have been taking your comment too bluntly though.

I'll definitely agree that this is well worth the reboot if the revamped engine, although looking mostly the same and reusing assets, allows the team to create content significantly faster. But launching with only four locations again, which was a huge criticism for the original game, does very little to make me think it's sped up anything. I know they're up to twice the size as D1's planets, but doubling something tiny isn't much to get excited about. Hopefully they're just deliberately holding plenty back that are going to be polished up after the game launches and released at regular and frequent intervals.

I'm not completely let down on this decision for the sequel. While I am disappointed that there's nothing completely unique that makes the need for a new title obvious (like space flight or open world locations), I still love the idea of them rebooting the playerbase now that they've got their systems in place. Destiny 1 today is very different to how it was at launch, so applying all that experience to a fresh start will still be good to see provided they also learned from their content pipeline issues. And I think that's what it will take to sell me on this - I want to know the content will be coming thick and fast, and I want to know that Destiny 3 will be a long ways off for next gen only, no more cross gen issues holding the mechanics back in the next one so we get some completely bold new steps in the future. I want to know that Destiny 2 will be launching as a baseline for a game and community that will grow exponentially for years to come, unlike Destiny 1 which was slow to grow and has been replaced pretty damn fast for an MMO type game. If not, the game isn't for me, and that's absolutely fine.

I mentioned it a couple pages ago but it really is a weird place Destiny 2 is stuck in. They nailed the look of their universe right out of the gate for Destiny 1 so changing things wouldn't make a whole lot of sense. The UI is perfect as is so why change it? The art design looks great so why change it? There really isn't a whole lot to iterate on when it comes to the look of Destiny because it has such a distinct aesthetic. It's either change everything for no reason or keep things the same and get criticism that it's too similar.

Funny part is I kept reading this complaint. I was late to watching the video. As I finally got around to it, I was trying to pick out what was so similar and I still can't. I felt it was quite different and refreshing.

I mean I'll give you Earth. By a stretch, Nessus since we saw Vex structurs before on Venus, albeit not to this level, but IO and Titan are completely new environments

The Destiny defense force on GAF is so fucking annoying. Nah. We don't trash Destiny for fun. We trash Destiny because Bungie continue to fuck it up.

Come into any thread with valid criticisms of Destiny and you see the same DGAF figures come out of the woodwork to call you a troll or a shitposter. Go back to your community thread safe space if you don't want to engage in actual discussion.

You're right with what you say. It would be foolhardy to change too much as D1 got a lot right. I think the 'hardcore' just wanted a lot more content, a well-told story with bells and whistles, lore that's accessible through the game and obvious things like new armor and weapons. I'm satisfied with what I've seen. It looks really clean and well-polished already. Can't wait to jump in.

Visually, it looks about the same. Better lighting, and theoretically better IQ thanks to 4k mode -- post-processing overall will probably be a bit better (the game looked brighter and more vibrant altogether).

Other aspects related to visual fidelity looked about the same. Model poly counts, environment complexity, etc., nothing super fancy going on. Which is kind of what we should expect, if a majority of the dev time went into a new tool chain for easier content production.

Bungie just spent an hour yesterday addressing the major criticisms that Destiny 1 received. That's not good for you though because "it feels like an expansion". Okay.

This is what I'm saying. If they deliver on the things that you mentioned then it's the perfect package imo. I never had an issue with the way Destiny looked so if they iterate and fix the gameplay systems then that's all I ever wanted out of a sequel. Even then, there still is a lot of new locations aesthetically to explore so it's not 100% recycled content like some are making it out to be. I have hope that there will be more exciting, new things to see and do in the full game.

lol, everyone was dissing the first Destiny after it came out, now everyone is getting fooled again.

"fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me."

*sigh*

Only another 3 years some months until we get the next incremental update being passed off as an sequel. It'll sport visuals that will be a mild update from its predecessor but that art tho. Enough time will have passed that they can revisit the scenarios from the original under the "'member fighting these foes" DLC. Most of the new activities will be updated and mostly revised existing activities. Humanity will lose once again and it'll be a clean state to encourage hopping on the treadmill once more.

I was kinda hoping for another race to fight, new class (although all new subclasses is a decent consolation), more than 4 zones (at least from what we have seen) and maybe something more to do with you ship other than a piece of artwork to look at during loading screens.

I never really had the complaint about lack of content for Destiny but this sequel doesnt seem like it is going to change anyone's mind about the game that didnt like the first (based on what we have seen so far).

I need to watch more PVP I guess but I am not sure I understand why they switched to a 4v4, dropping the player count per match.

Hmm 4 worlds??

Here's an interesting factoid from Destiny 2's reveal: the new world Nessus is on a "visiting orbit" according to world design lead, Steve Cotton.

In the game the planet is a Vex machine world and, speaking to GamesRadar, Cotton said, "Nessus is a centaur, we called it a planetoid in the presentation but it’s a centaur." A centaur is a minor planet with an irregular orbit, which he explains means it's "a planet that orbits in our solar system in a weird way, a visiting orbit thing. We thought that was really fascinating. The Hunters catalogued this planet and that’s how the Vex built their thing and now it’s coming into our solar system. So that’s why it’s here."

Even more curious is that when we asked if that meant there might be a limited window to deal with it, he stated, "limited window."

It does add up: Destiny is set in our solar system and, last time I checked, there's no Nessus planet mentioned. As for what the idea of a "limited window" could mean? That's unclear. It could be a narrative time pressure in the story, but given Destiny's love of time-restricted events - Xur, Rise of Iron and so on - could it mean Nessus and it's content isn't always available every day?

And, finally, just to make things more interesting, it looks like it's a real planet: 7066 Nessus, to be precise. An icy minor planet discovered by David L. Rabinowitz in 1993. It has an orbital period of 122.4 years and at its closest point to the sun it's nearer than Uranus, while its furthest point takes it beyond Neptune.

They didn't address anything. They said they were addressing the major criticisms, then they showed more of the same shit. If this amazing new content that changes the structure of the game is in there, I want to fucking see it. It's perfectly valid to complain about what we've seen so far.

It looks like an expansion. That's a factual statement. If it's more than that, show me, Bungie. I'm sick of waiting at this point.

Side note: Splatoon 2 also looks like DLC for the first game. Another perfectly valid criticism.

Yes, you're one of the figures.
