RIP Sir Roger Moore

RIP to a legend. Also as many others, I had to check on Sean Connery's age and was shocked to find out hes actually younger (a little) than Moore was.

Connery will hit me hard, one of my favorite actors growing up.

My least favourite Bond but without him redefining the character the series would have been died in the 70's, no doubt.

Had no idea he was 90, I don't think he looked anything close to that in recent years, as sad as this is, he really did have a long full life. R.I.P. Roger.

Sad news.

I might have a drink and watch Cannonball Run tonight.

The first Bond to die :(

A charming, charismatic man. He wasn't my favorite Bond by any stretch, but it is a humongous tribute to his talent, wit, charm and off the charts likability that somehow, in the midst of the weirdest and worst era of the franchise, he made it work. Roger Moore was always the best part about Roger Moore Bond films. His films might be the most rewatchable, and that's because of him.

90 years old. May he rest in peace.

Well said man

What a legend. He was the most 'fun' Bond IMO - yes a bit camp and cheesy, but part of the era and many fantastic memories of growing up watching those movies.

One of the things that never ceases to amaze me, aside from Moore's record 7 Bond outings (and record 12 year tenure; Craig will pass that soon but with less movies), is that despite playing Bond after Connery, Moore was 3 years older. Connery played Bond from age 32-37 and then once more at age 41 (and again at age 53 if we count non-canon films), meanwhile Moore played Bond from age 46 to 58. Amazing.

Today's just pretty shitty all round. He was Bond when I grew up so quite like his version of the character (He's still the only one who's not trying to do a version of Sean).

He was also pretty great as The Saint and in the Persuaders

Dude lived to be 89 leading an honorable life. He more than earned his peace.

This has been a horrible day to wake up to.

-Manchester bombing.
-Suicide of Zack Snyder's daughter.
-Roger Moore dying.
Damn I didn't know about Snyder's daughter. That's awful :(

Awwww damn, I've always had a soft spot for Moore since my dad would always watch The Saint when I was a kid (GOAT opening theme).

Got me into then watching his Bond films, I know Live and Let Die is something of an...odd film in this day and age but I dug it as a kid.

I'm surprised they replaced Sean Connery with an older actor in Roger. What was the thinking behind that?

Well, despite being younger than Connery, Lazenby ended up being a disaster for the franchise. So after paying Connery a dump truck of money to come back for one more film, EON was looking for someone more bankable and safe than a Lazenby 2.0 to replace Connery again. Moore was established from The Saint, well known and looked the part. I doubt his age ever factored in - he was 46 in his first film and he looked great. I'd argue that it wasn't til around Octapussy (his 6th film) that he really looked too old.

Awww. He had a good run, just not of Bond films. Loved his cheekiness though. RIP.

Only if you're a woman.

Holy shit, beautiful! This is not the thread to have a laugh but this one's golden!

For those who wonder, this is a Connery quote:
"There are women who take it to the wire. That's what they are looking for, the ultimate confrontation. They want a smack."

I really did think he'd be the first Bond actor to die.

RIP, Mr. Moore, you'll be missed.

R.I.P. As a kid I loved Bond and Moore was always awesome in that role.

And damn, the last week or so is really depressing me...

Source? The story I've always heard is that lazenby did just fine, and was invited back, but he turned it down on bad advice from his agent.

Moore was in the running from the beginning and competed with Connery before he got the role, IIRC.

Connery is 87 this year
Lazenby is 78 this year
Dalton is 71
Brosnan is 64

They are all getting up there. Craig just turned 49.

That's why it was a disaster. They got one film out of him, then had to grovel to Connery and pay a record sum to get him come back for one film, then had to recast again.

They signed this unknown, young, brash hippy to play Bond and it backfired big time. Moore was the opposite of that.

That was my understanding of it too.

RIP Roger. Maybe not my favorite Bond, but probably my favorite Bond actor.

He was the Bond that I grew up with, and knowing that he was 57 when he gave up the role back in 1985, I was surprised that he lasted this long. Still, he was a legend. Need to have a Moore Bond marathon in his honor.

RIP
