Zelda: Breath of the Wild "OMG I didn't know you could do that!" thread [SPOILERS]

Can you be more specific?

When i was testing Selmie with the dialogs for the different shields and messing around with the ones hanging in her cabin (magnetizing or setting them on fire) i never seen her saying that the the shields take 0 damage from sand or snow. im pretty sure i have explored her dialogues trees thoroughly.

At least is not common knowledge for what i' ve seen. i remember in the " suggest a tweak" thread some people wanting for shields to take even less damage when surfing or none at all. And i didn't see anyone making the observation that they don't take damage in these 2 surfaces.

So excuse me if i was mistaken. But i will surely like to see when or where is this specificaly pointed out in the hame if anyone knows.

IIRC, it was when I was doing the advanced shield race ( I thought I had to break the shrine's door by smashing Link into it at full speed...eh). I think she told me that as a tip when I decided to not do another race. She specifically said that shields take no damage when surfing on sand or snow.

I found something neat courtesy of TVtropes.org:

"When you find a memory, Link will get the Sheikah Slate out and look at its associated photo, but the final memory's photo is on the wall of Impa's house, so when Link finds that memory, he just stands there looking around for a few seconds instead... but if you take a photo of the photo on Impa's wall, Link will get out the Slate and look at the photo of the photo, like he does for the other memories."

Not something you the player directly due, but more insane attention to detail.

YEAH!!

I took a photo so I could pinpoint exactly where the memory would be. When I found the place and Link actually took out the photo that I took, it was probably the most mind-blowing moment in the game for me.

Amazing.

This is more of an OT thing maybe, but even after playing this game for ~150 hours (~110 on Wii U, another 40 on Switch), I just discovered two completely brand new Korok Seed puzzle types:

- Finding a large hill with two trees at the bottom and boulders at the top. I think "lol maybe if I roll this rock it'll go between the trees wayyyy down there". I do. And I get a Korok seed. WTF??

- I see these sets of three trees scattered everywhere, which seems suspicious, but I had no idea what to do with them. But then I realize that all three trees have identical branch layouts. But the apple layouts are different. So I start picking apples to make them identical - bam another Korok seed. LOL

This game is either bonkers level of polish/Easter egg hiding/detail madness, or has some algorithmic stuff deliberately planted in it to make weird outcomes happen on purpose. Either is fine by me.

The chances of this not being GOTY are basically zero.

LTTP used to be the best Zelda and by a country mile (if you include tech achievement at the time) but BOTW eclipses it.

I assume you found the type of
about 3 boulders next to one another on top of a hill and if you stand next to them and look down, you'll see a circular shape that is slightly larger than a boulder. roll them down and into the circle. circle can be water, lava, or a small pit.

Yep! I've found a couple of them.

Never noticed these puzzles yet and its probably why my Korok seed count is less than 150 with over 150 hours played lol

I didn't even notice the
metallic cube puzzles until I saw Game Grumps did it. And when Arin notices something before you do in Zelda, you know you messed up!

2nd one's been mentioned. I honestly don't know if I've encountered the 1st.

I think we need another Korok seed puzzle list. There are so many types!

The only place I remember the 1st one is on
one of the twin peaks
. I just remember thinking....ok, why is this rock here, not holes anywhere....what about those random trees over there! It's crazy that this is the only instance of this type that I can remember, because I had 500 seeds by the time I beat the game...

Some other things that might be of interest:
  • Sage Simbolism. In the Plateau shrines each guardian sage signals one of the 4 pieces of the sacred triangle. In a minutious attention to detail, the spiritual vanishing animation goes according to which piece it was representing. Sages signaling the left and right side triangles dematerialize in a dust that spreads to the left and right. Bottom and top triangle representations disappear from the center upwards.

Continuing with simbolism, the guardian sage of the Oman Au shrine representes the center triangle of the triforce. To no surprise since Aonuma, as main producer, has been the center piece of the series for almost 2 decades.
  • Amiibo Toolbox. The Amiibos that cause metal boxes to drop from the sky can be used in interesting ways: 1) Surprise attacks . By dropping them on top of enemies, explosive barrels or during thunderstorms. 2) To loot inactive decayed guardians. Very handy when there aren't any magnetic rocks or isn't raining to use the Cryonis Rune to move them. 3) To drown Guardians. First, inmovilize a Guardian by cutting the legs, then use a metal box to push it inside a body of water, a bug or a lava pool. After a couple of seconds the Guardian explodes.
  • Forgetting Z Lock attacks. Instead of entering "Focus Mode" then slowly turning Link to face the enemy and shoot, just quickly tap ZL and then ZR to instantly slowdown time in the correct direction. Horse Attack. When riding a horse, locking to an enemy with ZL them pressing the Jump (X) and attack button (Y) will cause Link to do a homing jump attack. Due to the lock on magnetism the distance of travel is enhanced quite a bit.
  • Ancient cure to an ancient ill.
    Dark Beast Ganon
    can be killed without
    Light Arrows
using instead any bow to fire Ancient Arrows. Came to realice this upon finishing the game the 1st time since i didn't realice i had to pick
    Zelda's Bow
and just settle to hit the boss as hard as possible.

It might be when you first meet and talk to her. I don't remember specifics, sadly.
i went to Selmie again and explored every option of the dialog tree and no durability tip was given. Proceeded to create a new save file and went straight to Selmie's Spot after completing the Plateau with the same results.

If i had to make a guess, you must have heard some similar advice in reference to riding a Sand Seal either from an NPC or a game tip. In which case, the observation made about shields not degrading in sand or snow when shield surfing "normally" is relevant still. The hint about snow is never given and the game is known to bend the rules some times, for example, sneak attack damage during the Yiga Clan section.

That last one!!!!

I always knew those trees looked suspicious but didn't know what to do with them 😂

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe I learned it as a tip that popped up while loading. I'm pretty sure I saw it multiple times, and I didn't really pursue any of the shield surfing activities in the game. The only other way I can think that maybe I learned it would be if that random shield surfer guy in Hyrule (he's standing on a grassy hill by a tree, IIRC) said something or if the wise sand seal (Patricia?) said something one of the two times I gave it fruit.

Same here. i would say the surprising thing would be if a player doesn't use the Slate to take a picture at Impa's house, im sure the majority did it this way.

Speaking of which, is there a video of this happening? i know i took the picture but i don't remember what happened when i reached the final memory. Searched online but the only thing i found is the one with Link standing.

Lizardus, how did you managed to be blown away? i mean if Link took the Slate out then the sequence would' ve played out like the previous 12 ones. Did you saw the sequence previously from another player or game session?

i think some people doesn't give enough credit to the Korok Seeds. When you start getting in the rhytm of things, the game throws a curve ball with a new type. The seed collecting can demand both observation and puzzle solving skills.

However, i think Nintendo should make an small adjustment. After the player collects more than 450 or whatever the number is to maximize slots. Give the player the option to use the extra seeds to substract slots from the inventory. The reason is for seasones players that are familiar with the game to have an easier time when navigating the quick menu.

Usually they'll trigger balloons for you to shoot at with a bow so you get a Korok seed. You might have to search the horizon for the balloons.

I know that and i know the audio cue for it happening but sometimes I'm not able to trigger them at all. I have like 10 of them marked on the map that dont do anything no matter what i try.

Oh, they do something. It's not always balloons. Sometimes its pots being tossed somewhere in the environment and they can be super well hidden. Look hard at the terrain for something to move.

Frankie, pls, we need an easter egg in Halo 6 where there's 3 identical trees in a random corner of the campaign and if you shoot the apples to make the trees identical a Korok-like thing pops in and goes YA HAHA!

I just made the mistake of fighting a White Lynel with a guardian bow and he disappeared after 1 hit? Did it glitch?
It didn't glitch but you did make a mistake in terms of no loot. Ancient arrows basically warp your target into oblivion unless they're a guardian. Super cool effect but yields no loot.

I was blown away because it's not something I expected the game to do. When Impa first showed me the picture, I didn't even take a picture of the painting because I knew it was in front of Hateno Fort. When I couldn't pinpoint the exact spot, I went back and took a picture of the painting.

I guess it just came out from the left field. Not a lot of games have these small details anymore. It probably didn't take a lot to implement it but just the fact that it's in the game is very cool.

From behind snow drifts or behind trees or any part of the environment - like from behind one tree to the next. You might only see the very tip of something moving behind some rocks. When I say its well hidden in the environment, I mean it. The pots are being tossed from one bit of cover to the next, not towards you. They may quite far away too.

Sorry. I took a photo of it on switch but not sure how to upload.

It's a huge badge like thing on the side of a mountain face with I think lightning bolts around it. It's quite big. I don't know what it is.

In Hateno there is a spot where with cooking pots, so I often go there to cook something. There is also an old lady sitting below the tree nearby. So I took the items for cooking in my hands but accidently didn't drop them into the pot but on the ground.
As I ran after the food to pick them up again (it was windy) the old lady talked to me that I must be very hungry to pick up all that food or something along these lines.

it's a shrine quest. you've seen these plates before, just on the ground. the symbols should tell you what needs to be don there. :)

If I remember correctly, I shot an arrow at a Kakariko Village sign above the road and a Korok appeared. poof

Yeah I got that one early on actually. You can see that it's as if somebody tried to shoot it with arrows previously, or the sign next to it. So there is a visual clue for it.

I think it was probably one of my first dozen Koroks, before I really understood the range of puzzles or even the scope of collecting seeds. I think I shot an arrow to see if mine would lodge like the ones already there.

I do this, every time. Still tricky because timing the time freeze is an art itself.

I'm guessing you can do this on the balloons too? Never thought of it.

I sometimes like to use bombs on the balloons of they're within close distance (easier to hit and no wasting arrows)... If they're too far for bombs I like to use x3 Lynel bows for easier aiming.
