Shin Megami Tensei for sure. The tease for SMT V was my personal highlight during the Switch presentation and I cant wait to see where it goes!

Also looking forward to Xenoblade 2.

I'm so excited about the future pachislot machines for Suikoden!
Nope, they aren't even making pachinko for Suikoden anymore.

On a serious note, I'm quite optimistic about the future of Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts and Tales Of. They're all series that are very popular and they're being used quite a lot, so it's assured that they will continue for a while still. Even though none of the recent games in these series can top their best games, the developers are still trying their best and treating the games with love, which I think is a really good position for these series to be in.

Absolutely Trails/Kiseki.

The best writing, characters, and world-building in the genre right now. I've got a lot of favorites, but FF is in the toilet and I'm not sure where Persona goes after 5. Kiseki is on an upward curve in every way though. Couldn't be more excited for Sen III.

Persona for me. This series came out of nowhere. Just excited to see how it evolves. Especially with PS4-level hardware being the basis for P6.

Secondly would probably be Final Fantasy. That is because I think we will see a FFXVI that goes back to the franchise's roots. ATB, Turn-based, magic crystals, classes, plenty of weapons, dungeons, state of the art graphics as usual. All the stuff everyone loved about I-X.

Also, Pokemon if it really is coming to Switch.

Trails for sure. I've loved all the games so far, and I can't wait to see where the story goes next. Everything they've shown of Cold Steel III so far looks awesome.

Trails/Kiseki: Best worldbuilding in the genre. Sky laid a hell of a foundation and CS built off of it in a really exciting way. Crossbell is the gigantic hole existing in the franchise's western presence now and hopefully the series is in a good enough place that XSEED will be able to get those done too.

Persona: Beyond excited to see where the series goes now that we have new people taking over. 5 was a little too familiar in some ways and I hope the new team is able to take P6 in a fresh direction.

FF: I have no hope for the mainline series at this point but the VII remake and the direction they're going with it has the potential to be really fantastic. I'm glad they're trying to take some chances with some pretty significant changes to the way that game played.

For the first time in what feels like forever we don't know what the next mainline Final Fantasy game will be like, which is... exciting but also worrisome lol

Final Fantasy.

The Final Fantasy VII Remake could be huge for the franchise.

And there's a lot of mystery surrounding Final Fantasy XVI.

Plus, I'm sorta excited for some of the upcoming DLC episodes for Final Fantasy XV.

The Trails/Kiseki games bar none, and i'll be eternally excited for them.

I thirst for all the new info, and replay the game to keep building my own personal little bible of people and places, and can't wait to see where they all end up next.

The series made it hard for me to care about the stories/worlds in most games just because I know they just can't compare most of the time.

Final Fantasy. XVI is going to be incredible given the groundwork of XV, and the next MMO will likely be amazing as well.

I excited with the potential of Pokemon, but I'll remain cautious.

Trails and Persona for reasons already mentioned.

As always Final Fantasy. I really liked 15. Liked it better than 13 by a lot. It still is lacking a lot from the time they were more ambitious in gameplay and scale not graphics, but it was a definite good step. The story has shades of greatness which makes me wish they would eventually do a complete version, but I doubt it.

Ni No Kuni is another good one I have high hopes for.

Project Re Fantasy could be something special - especially if Hashino uses it to try new & different things from modern Persona.

I am curious about this.

Also to see Final Fantasy get a fresh start.

Final Fantasy. Regardless of how one felt about XV I think the prospect of XVI is exciting because it feels like the beginning of a new chapter we can look forward to. For better or worse we are past the Fabula Nova Crystalis chapter and all games that started with their DNA. We're past the point of people going into a game with expectations built up from a game that doesn't exist. I can't wait to see what happens next, I'd even be excited for a new MMO. Final Fantasy XI was in 2003, and XIV was in 2010 or 2013 if we consider A Realm Reborn a new game. I know there are still adventures to be had in XI let alone XIV, and I'm sure XI fans are going to fight tooth and nail for it (lord knows some of them won't stop talking about it while playing XIV) but I'm getting a hankering for a brand new adventure in a brand new world. I understand that's not really feasible considering they're already maintaining those + Dragon Quest X which all together span almost every currently available platform.

Tales Series/Studio Istolia. Hideo Baba, the former brand manager and producer for the Tales franchise recently became the president of newly formed Studio Istolia. He's a bit of a controversial dude and is considered to be at least partly responsible for what people consider to be the decline of the series. How much that impact is will probably depend on who you ask, but the dude has the title of producer for both beloved and hated Tales games.

So speaking more recently, the Tales games that he was involved in have generally had poor reception by fans where as the most recent title (which he was not involved with) had a very positive reception and considered by some fans to be the best game in quite some time. I am excited to see how the Tales franchise will grow with this change in direction, and I'm excited to see how Baba's project will be in comparison.

Paper Mario, I haven't actually played a Paper Mario yet (not owning any system on which one is available aside from the 3DS family which has Sticker Star) but it seems like a series I'd enjoy a lot and Color Splash really looks very fun. Not just that but they seem to have recovered from what seems like the disappointment of Sticker Star, so it seems like the next game could continue from that higher point. Plus, this may be fantasy speaking but I have a small hope that we could see a Paper Mario TTYD remaster since Nintendo seem to still be at the Gamecube era when it comes to remasters of games (Twilight Princess on the Wii U being a recent example). Considering there weren't too many Gamecube remasters,

Also Fire Emblem. Having played Awakening and Birthright, I greatly enjoyed both of those, and was very very happy to see Echoes come to the 3DS family, so while it means no more Fire Emblem for those systems (most likely), hopefully it does mea more remakes of the older games, and more Fire Emblem as a whole. Fire Emblem Switch is already one of the games I want to play most on the Switch once I get one.

Bravely series. This one seems less likely considering the devs look to be busy with Project Octopath Traveller, but I think desperately hope the series has life left in it yet.

Final Fantasy's kinda losing me at this point and unless XVI displays some changes in their approach it's possible that major single player FFs just aren't going in a direction that I find exciting anymore, but aside from that I'm actually pretty optimistic about future games in all the other series' I consistently buy and play.

Of the still-active JRPG series I play, I can't really name any that I think isn't in a decent position at the moment and isn't opening up a lot of new potential that can be captured, especially as they all begin to complete the transition away from the Vita, PS3, and 3DS and towards the Switch, PS4, and PC from this year onward. Even the SaGa series has gotten back to making some moves and rebuilding interest after several years of low-to-mild activity.

I guess if I had to pick the one I'm most excited about it's Trails, since it's the only one where I can sort of envision where it's going in the future.

It may take a while, but I'm really excited to see where Atlus will take the Persona series next.

After enjoying XV I believe that the mainline Final Fantasy series can only go up at this point. Very interested to see how VII-R & XVI turn out.

Nothing really.

I am curious about this.

Also to see Final Fantasy get a fresh start.

You can find everything we know so far here.

The great thing is that it allows Hashino & co. to broaden their horizons while also allowing Persona to reinvent itself again, either way we should be getting at least one good game out of the whole shebang.

What will the next medieval-themed, numbered FF be like? That causes me to be greatly excited.

But really though, the next evolution of Dark Souls or Bloodborne. Thanks for including it.

Also Xenoblade Chronicles because I loved the first one, and I found a Switch!

I've been on the Trails / Kiseki bandwagon for a couple years now and don't have any inclination to jump off any time soon.
Nobody does world-building like Falcom.

Mainstream answer: FFVII remake. This was a dream come true for me. Hopefully it doesn't suck.

Less mainstream answer: Mainline Shin Megami Tensei. SMT3 left a strong impression on me and I still like SMT IV quite a bit. I really want to see the series on console again.

Persona , hopefully Persona 5 expansion adult version . Can't get enough of that game's world and characters .

Hopefully there are new jrpg IP , but ATM its hard to top Persona 5 & Nier Automata . Looking forward to Granblue Fantasy too .

If Soulsborne is included , ya Bloodborne 2 please !

Trails and Xenoblade. Simply if we're talking about series and not new IPs or single installment games. I guess I am curious about what new blood can do with Persona as well.

Always excited to see what Atlus is doing. I'm definitely exited to see what Hashino is working on as well but I don't know what the future of that IP will have before I see it (assuming Hashino even wants it to be a series). I'm excited to see what that UE4 SMT project is as well but not sure what else they have planned for the series or MegaTen franchise.

I find it hard to believe anyone would said they're excited for Xenoblade 2 with that doofus as the protag.

It's definitely a big downer but they'd have to make more of the party annoying for me to write it off. Even if I decide not to get it I'd still be curious to see if it can sell better than X did on Wii U. Also that's one installment, I'm still hoping for X2 as well.

I'm very excited to see what FF7r ends up being, and FFXVI, of course.

After Berseria, I'm more hopeful about Tales than I have been in a long time. DQXI looks great, so that too.

A question for people who are excited about the next Trails and Tales of games.

What is the thing that makes you excited about the next entries in those series? Do you think they could change and shake up their franchises and get to that next level. Or do you mostly just wanna see new entries with new cast and story?

I ask this because I also like both of those series (well, for Trails I just like Cold Steel), but besides getting new storylines and characters, I don't expect to see them do anything that different. So, I wanted to know if I'm missing something that would make me more excited about the future of those franchises.

The appeal in trails games is largely the story with it's fantastic writing and overarching narrative and world building that crosses the continent. As for Tales, those games have drastically changed gameplay before so I'm a bit confused

For Trails I think the excitement is definitely seeing new storylines and characters above all else. It certainly helps that Falcom is well equipped to make sure the gameplay is satisfying but since all the games are connected those who find the whole series interesting get an entirely different perspective of the existing areas.

CS3 in particular looks like it's a culmination of a lot of things that have been going on in that world from Sky to now. For that series it's 100% the continuing story and characters.

It also looks like they're doing some cool new stuff with the gameplay but that's definitely in the back seat compared to the rest.

Im always both excited and scared for Persona but especially Shin Megami Tensei, but since Persona 6 is bound to be made by new blood and SMT V's trailer seems to evoke Nocturne vibes, I'm more excited than scared for both this time around!

Mostly for SMT though, my god! First HD SMT game on the horizon!

I want to say I'm excited for Xenoblade as well but X2's trailer raises so many red flags it's basically a miracle I still have hopes that it'll be good, and that's only thanks to how great the original is.

Oh no, the protag looks kind of lame. I guess I have to assume this game by a studio with an amazing track record and that is the sequel to my favourite JRPG of its generation isn't worth getting hyped over.

Cold Steel 3 will be climax of the franchise, where they'll finally show a certain plot point that the series had been building ever since the first one.

That's pretty exciting for me

I'm most curious to see how Persona 6 is going to be shaping up, given that Hashino won't be at the helm for this one. While I love Persona 5 very much it got a little too predictable at times since they've been using this formula for three games now. I appreciate a different take on this franchise.

Also interested to see how mainline Pokémon is gonna look when it finally makes the jump to HD (with games from the ground up developed for an HD system, so Gen 8 and not Stars). I feel like finally getting rid of the grid to allow for more organic world design was just the beginning. Hopefully we'll get a freely moveable camera next.

Trails is the kind of series with continuous plotline that expands on previous entries while keep building up towards the future, so viewing the excitement as an expectation to see something new (cast, story or whatever) in the next game is kinda imprecise, I think. It's not that I'm awaiting a shake up; it's that the shake ups have already happened and now I'm excited to see how it would all play out.

The series pretty much continuously raise the questions of "what will they do now that it has come to this?" with various intensity and stakes in every title. That in itself would make me want to see a continuation, but now in particular, the next game is shaping up to be answering a lot of those.

If you're talking about gameplay and combat and stuff, though, I don't really care about those as long as they serve the narrative and characters well.
