Just wish they would have done what Sega did at the very least. Charge $40 for physical, and then just make it $30 on the eShop.

I'm starting to believe the rumors that Nintendo doesn't allow charging different prices for physical and digital, that the only way Sega got away with it was by putting keychains in the box so they could claim it had a higher value.

Just look at the Eurogamer review.

Avoid it. It's a disaster.

There are more reviews in the world than just Eurogamer's and most of them have said it's a fun game and they've enjoyed their time with it, but it's not worth the price. Just look at the GameXplain review. Like the poster you were replying to, I used Amazon Prime to get USF2 for $31.99, and I can justify that price for the package I am getting.

I had this pre-ordered but cancelled it last week. I'm a huge SF fan but I just knew I'd rarely play it. I play Switch in almost 100% handheld mode and I can't live with the lack of d pad. Arcade sticks are my first control choice but I can play with a d pad, an analog stick not so much.

Off Topic: Does anyone think Nintendo will eventually sell other styles of Joy Con that would hook on to the Switch? It seems like a no-brainer. I mean, they could sell one with a premium d pad, maybe larger sized Joycons for those with larger hands. Or even better, they could make custom game-specific Joycons that offer unique functionality. Like for a rhythm game with something like the old DS Guitar Hero attachment kinda maybe

Better games are priced 30$ and deserve more attention than this bad, rushed, overpriced package. (imo, of course)

But, hey, hope you enjoy it.

For 39.99 you can get a much better fighting game with loads more content (Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2).

Unless you're a Switch-only owner...then you have my condolences.

People would still make the argument that the PS4 physical release was $30 and that extra Nintendo tax for publishing it to a cartridge marked it up another $10. It honestly doesn't matter as much if you have GCU or Amazon's Prime Discount in the US to some extent + I can't complain about the sheer amount of content in Puyo Puyo Tetris + it's the first opportunity for a western audience to get a localized version of the game.

Binding of Isaac Afterbirth+, Cave Story+, Ultra Street Fighter II are, in my opinion, the most glaring examples digital being more expensive or the same for the sake of $$$ cashing in. At least Isaac's rationale is that all of the DLC is included and the price on Steam is $35. Cave Story on the other hand has always been something between a $5-$15 title on the 3DS eShop depending on sales. The 3D remake retailed as a full 3DS title with physical release and the amount of work redone justified the price.

There are so many different versions of Street Fighter II. Many of which are cheaper on other platforms through ports, compilations, and Virtual Console releases + the HD Remix from the PS3 and Xbox 360 retailed for $15. Street Fighter IV on PS4 and Marvel vs. Capcom 3 all retailed for $20 + $25 and I don't think the physical re-release of MvC3 was under $30. The under $10 on sale 3DS version of Street Fighter IV is another example of more for less.

I know I'm shitting on a game I really have no intention on buying. My experience with fighting games online has been hit or miss. Not really drawn into them. $15 is the sweet spot. They sales may be decent the first week but this will quickly be overshadowed by the likes of ARMS coming out in a few weeks.

I kind of find Namco and Capcom's support to be underwhelming thus far given they've been long time supporters and partners of Nintendo. Barring the Bamco dev collaboration of Mario Kart 8 (and I assume supporting role in porting it to Switch. Capcom has Street Fighter II and Namco has a museum collection coming out in the summer.

Hopefully E3 adds some traction to any plans they might have for the platform. I'd gladly take a Resident Evil 4 port or a Katamari game. I guess Taiko Drum Master is coming to Switch?

Played it in a hotel with two buddies last night and it was literally like a switch commercial. As predicted, this is the ultimate social console. It's hilarious how it literally markets itself haha

Except Rime is doing it too, and in Canada Has-Been Heroes is $24.99 on eshop and $29.99 physical. It's clearly up to the publisher. They put things in the box (Rime has a soundtrack code) to justify the extra cost to the schmuck buying physical, not to justify it to Nintendo.

Currently the number one selling game on Amazon US.

Amazing. Capcom gets away with shitty Street Fighter releases these days now. They screwed us with the SF V release, and now price gouge us for a slightly modified version of a game they have sold for less than $20 in the past.

I'll still end up buying it... USED.

Nothing amazing about it, really, once you remind yourself neogaf is an echo chamber of gaming enthusiasts completely separate and distinct from the mass consumers to whom publishers cater. How many times have we been wrong?

This is very true. We are definitely not representative of gaming as a whole. Not even close.

Funnily enough I know plenty of casuals who didn't know how to download games on 360 and completely missed HD Remix that are excited about this. Weird.

Is it me or are the sprites slightly small? Could it be because of the black bars on the top and bottom of the screen?

I really just seem to notice it on the Ryu, Ken, Akuma, VK, and ER sprites. They just look smaller than they should

Man...I just lost 300+ PP to a Violent Ken who kept killing me with teleport shit. I couldn't do anything to counter it except pick Violent Ken right back and kill him with the same dumb crap. He quit out of the rematch immediately afterwards. I really wish this character wasn't in the game. Hope Capcom does some balancing or someone finds a weakness people are missing. At least he takes an insane amount of damage.

With no D-Pad it also kind of limits the appeal of having a fighting game on Switch.

Bleh.

It actually works really well with the analog stick. Much better than you'd think. Also there's the pro controller and a stick is coming soon.

I know I am going to probably end up biting. It's good to know I won't be alone.

This is a flawed game- it's a port of HD Remix with some stuff removed and some stuff added. Online is as barebones as it gets- just 1-on-1 fights with no lobbies. Net code has been a mixed bag. Seems like there's some bad balance issues.

But you know what? I'm having a fucking blast playing this game. I forgot how much fun old-school SF2 can be. The fights go quick and it feels like it's really anyone's game right up until the end. I already am having way more fun playing this than I have with all the time I've spent playing Injustice 2.

A basic anthology of SFII, Alpha 2/3 and SFIII on the same cart for $40 probably would have been easier to do and gone over better.

"Super" SF1 with a real versus mode would have been a fun bonus game.

Because Capcom doesn't like giving fans what they want
It's so baffling. It was already included in HD Remix.

So a question out of curiosity since there's impressions on Evil Ryu and Violent Ken...can you filter them out of ranked along with Akuma or is this game doomed to have the online meta just filled with those 3?

Up until SF4. Alpha has received tons and tons of releases. From PS1 to PS2 to GBA to Vita. I'd say its the 2nd most ported series after SF2 series.

It has received a ton of releases but the most modern one is 11 years old (PSP SFA3), not counting it being released as BC on PSN. Meanwhile, in that timeframe most every other major SF and SF-adjacent series has gotten some sort of rerelease, exceptions being Pocket Fighter (only one game released and it was BC at least) CVS (RIP) and EX (also RIP)

I would love for them to do to SFA3 Max what they're doing with Ultra II tbh, release it on the switch, maybe throw in some characters from IV that would make sense with the timeline.

I've seen the reviews and I get the issues people have with the price. But, for those of you that bought it, is it fun? Same ol SFII? I enjoy street fighter in general so if the game is actually good then I'll consider buying it. Overpriced or not.

On the livestream, it looks like the endings in arcade mode are in the new graphics regardless of the style you play in. The player was playing in pixel mode, yet still got new graphics for the ending.

Just posted earlier:

Also:

-I hate fucking Violent Ken. HATE HIM. Hate that teleport shit. I feel like I HAVE to rematch and pick him to even things out right now. :|

-Online has been dominated by (vanilla) Kens and some Ryus. I have yet to fight against anyone using Boxer or T. Hawk.

-The classic sound option is not pure SSF2T. Some of the voices are from the CPS1 SF2 games (like Sagat, and this is a good thing), and I may be wrong, but I could swear a BGM or two is also from the CPS1 SF2s, ditto on some of the backgrounds (or at least color schemes) with classic graphics.

-This game needs some filtering options for the classic visuals badly. A scanline filter would do wonders for it. But that said, there is something awesome about switching everything to the classic setting and going online. It's nostalgic fun at its best. Reminds me of the good times I had with SF2 Turbo when it first hit XBLA years ago.

It isn't a port of HDR. Not at all. It is a completely different game than HDR.

I know it doesn't play the same but I would still class it as a "changed up port." Anyway, I'm just trying to describe it to folks. HDR had options that this game does not.

What?

^ Is this not an accurate statement? Looks like they removed some online features, ability to play original Super Turbo, and added some new characters/balance changes/Hado minigame. But it's still the same base game it looks like.
