The Black Culture Thread |OT19| - You Still Can't Say Tanned

Listen, nephew

You've got to move on from this and maybe revisit it in the future. People have to grow on their own and relationships don't work without BOTH partners moving in the same general direction. Remember the rules:

1.> You can't love someone more than they love themselves

2.> You can't be the only one with ambition

3.> You can't fight a person's battles for them no matter how much you may want to.
All this is good life advice in general.

Is that a screenshot of one of Uncle Tony Stark's scenes in Spider-Man: Homecoming?

Is Peter gonna come home and find Tony trying to treat Aunt May to a secret recipe?

My fault, but remove the food, Mikey. Folks still fasting..I'm an asshole.

I've been out of touch with NegroGaf as of late, but I'm wondering if any of y'all have seen this article on Twintelle yet? https://mic.com/articles/177734/arms-twintelle-nintendo-woc-hair-weapon#.5F1B6OtLO

You think she's valid in her complaints? I'm fine with the design, but then again I'm a black man who's issues and challenges in Western society is different from hers.

At first thought I had was that all of her lent herself to the Jezebel stereotype. Her walk, her figure her whole creation is only there to represent sex.
As for the hair itself I can only sympathise with Ms.DePass. Her viewpoint is a valid one and the explanation to reach it is as valid. Unfortunately I do believe it'll fall on deaf ears and even more so on the gaming side.

Just a note, Twintell is a tanned Asian. Nintendo don't make any brown/black characters.

When I first saw Twintelle, I couldn't get excited like everyone else. All I could think about was her hair. Specifically, the fact she's a brown, female character with weaponized hair.

I...think I'm going to step away from the internet or something. I just read these things and feel so out of touch when I read things like this. Nevermind the fact she isn't even the only character who doesn't attack with her actual arms (Mechanica) or the first instance of "weaponized hair" in a games/anime (there are literally dozens of them).

This feels like the author trying to fit her grievances with a much larger issue onto a game only slightly tangentially related.

Not to mention she seems to miss the fact that ARMS fighters are seen as stars. Twintelle is literally a celebrity, in her own right, AND is celebrated for her hair powers. Look at her fan variant. They literally adopt her hairstyle.

end of the day you got to have enough love for your self that you're not making your self crazy just to be with someone else. yo can have your reservoir of love and patience and understanding for other people, but once that love of self gets tapped you know something is up, someone is taking too much of what you have to give.

I fucking knew it. Goddamn tanners.

tannas?

She might not be black, but she's certainly not Asian if any of the other characters are. On the map the only person from anywhere near the part of the world she's from is Master Mummy.

Add the French and yeah, probably from some part of fictional Africa equivalent.

I like the character; her hair powers are portrayed as stylish and cool

The issue about black hairstyles needing to be included more is legit but this character doesn't feel like part of it

Nonsense. Japan shows the utmost respect to other cultures and people's.

I mean just LOOK at this shining beacon of inclusivity in animated form:

See kids. It's just Japanese street culture. And not the fact they're just openly contemptuous of us. 😒

Looks at the thread title, remembering Inkling thread. Wonder if people have a bad memory or perhaps I'm super in some way?

Damn I had a hard time with Chocolove. On one hand I loved the character, minus the overt banana love, but I so detested the drawing of him.
The background was rather well done. If I remember right it could have been a tribute to Biggie and he was endowed with powers rivaling the best and an attitude that just sat right. Chill as hell.

Regarding the hair, the white hair trend aside, I thought it and her design overall looks cool as fuck. Frankly, I'm surprised this even came from Nintendo. So I see this article, and yea, it did not cross my mind that someone might consider it to be a "blunder". But I'm not a woman of color though, so admittedly it feels easier for me to look at the new WoC character and love it, and not really think too much past that unless it's blatantly problematic.

I dunno though. I can definitely see the points of an earlier discussion someone brought up in here about Nintendo giving the one WoC character a... noticable butt, but I dunno about the hair. I don't really get the impression that she's being other'd here. Well other than being one of the only two characters that have normal arms lol

But I see this part of the article:

So why does the brown girl have to use her hair as a weapon?

And I guess I can see why that could be seen as suspect though. Ultimately I don't think this example is a good one though.

Nah I figured as much. I am surprised that seemingly for once, no one is really objecting to people associating her as such. I bet it's because she speaks French.

Get bodied by Wale in 2017 brehs.

see? Tomi Lahren served a purpose after all.

she's probably through though. Time to get murried and pop out the next generation of racist youtube starlets.

But guys they're not the US so we can't expect them to be as sensitive to this as americans are.

Yeah that didn't sit well with me. Not everyone of us in the states.
Ergo why I have trouble with the word nigga. Yes I was born there, my mom grew up there but my parents took me away, thankfully to Sweden, so the walls I had to climb was so different. Yes me and my family, now in San Jose and all over(earlier from Orleans), called each other every form of Nigga. Depending on what was hot but I never had to grow up with those hardships. So while I do understand why we use it and respect black peoples usage of the word I don't really see myself having any right to it.
Plus that word was only ever used by white people around me here in Sweden and it wasn't until Latin Kings(music group here) made it something else as it was always used...yeah it wasn't to recognize anyone. It was only to make sure I knew my place in society.

Wonderful world we live in..no doubt. Get over it tho.. . .. . .. . ... .

ok....so everyone with any kind of love in their chest loves Satchmo and if they could they would pay tribute to him....but what the hell is that?

Associating her as a tannas? Or a woman of color?

Woman of color. But then again, it's not like I've been specifically looking out for posts like that. Just the few times I see it brought up, I don't see any of that tanned nonsense. That being said, I sure as hell ain't gonna make a thread like the Splatoon one where I give GAF a chance to potentially show their asses.

Ah, I have stayed away from that side on purpose. Especially if there is a possibility of fuckery....there's always a possibility of fuckery.

When your fro is so big it is giving you headaches cus of the heat. 😔

Man I miss those days....sometimes.

Why is the fuckup always a racist stereotype? Law of averages would say if they were truly unaware and ignorant sometimes they wouldn't have blackface or stereotypes

"On Friday, Ms. Smith said her use of the racial slur was no big deal, and she should be entitled to use it whenever she wants. She suggested that comedian Eddie Murphy made a career out of using the word, and added that she grew up hearing it on television in the 1970s show “All in the Family.”

“Now, all of a sudden, I can’t use it?” Ms. Smith said in a phone interview on Friday. “Sorry—I live in a black neighborhood. I came here and didn’t see color.”

hmm, is season 3 of Kimmy Schmidt worth it? I remember feeling nothing about it in the end of season 2.

Why is it always just they that don't see colour?
