Alamo Drafthouse hosting women-only Wonder Woman screenings June 6th

They are taking a political stance. It's pretty straightforward.

It isn't to him/her. And if he/she feels they need to take their business elsewhere, like they did for chick fil a, due to the corporation starting getting political, then it's their right. I agree with him/her in that I dislike when companies and celebrities/executives get into politics. They all have a right to express their beliefs and support, of course, but I don't really care for them. Their reality is different than mostly everybody else, so I really couldn't care less what they say. I won't go as far as Darryl and boycott companies and whatnot, mainly because I don't think that does anything. I already don't go to Alamo or eat at chic fil a, but for different reasons. If they were my go to places, I would still keep going there provided they kept providing me the service I wanted and expected, even if I disagreed with their political stances.

People weren't upset that Chick Fil A was political

People were upset that their politics were anti-gay

Please, please, people, stop making a comparison between activism for people and activism against people. Alamo Drafthouse is celebrating women, Chick Fil A is denigrating gay people. It's a false equivalence.

That's what you said last time, honkey!!! 😜

they won't let me into KOD no more

Can't wait for the thread when cinemas do black people only night for Black Panther.

oh my god
oh my god

Guarantee Alamo does one.

Beat theater chain by faaaar.

i wish to hell i had a theater out here with those kinda balls, id drive a long ways to support it

That Black Panther premiere is going to have Fox News, Trump supporters, and so many others in their feels

I mean you can be progressive and still be idiotic. Never forget "protest voting"

so that's what you really think of would-be allies, Angelus? enjoy 12 years of trump
oh my god the fuckboi concentration at that premier would be so tremendous, hannity would be crying somewhere

Let's lay this out

Chick Fil A's actions sought to harm or contribute to the harm of gay people

Alamo Drafthouse's actions sought to help offer a space for women in a society

One is positive, the other is negative

EDIT: Also, you know what's the worst thing about the idea of a black showing for Black Panther? The fact that the NeoGAF thread will be filled with people saying "can I get in if I identify as black?" and somehow it'll turn into a thread about people being transphobic

Honestly I gotta do more to reach out and empathise with these people!

I cannot believe there's even a single outcry about this. This is so pathetic. And I bet you anything, a lot of these guys who are pissed off consider themselves alpha males or some other made up macho bullshit.

I still don't understand how it's political. It's a celebration for women, with donations going to planned parenthood, which predominantly serves women's needs. Is anything that celebrates minorities political?

I don't know why some are reacting badly to this. There are regular women only screenings (this one is called 'Flicks with the Chicks') for certain sessions at a major cinema in Australia near me. Here's the latest on that:

http://villagecinemas.com.au/events/flicks-with-the-chicks
Yeah, the concept isn't a big deal when it comes to 'chick flicks', but the intersection between comic books, superheroes, publicity, and MRAs make this screening evidently so combustible.

The Alamo is really doing this so they can sell 300% more of those alcoholic milkshakes they make

I KNEW IT

They make special ones based on movies too

Shit when I watched Midnight Special there I got a beer that was based on Everybody Wants Some. Trust me they go in
Fuck. I need one here in KY now. Maybe I can convince them that Bowling Green is growing fast enough that a theater by them will help.

I feel like the only people upset with this are people who have some deep seeded repressed memories of being at a city pool and watching as they called for "old people only" to swim or something. They stood there dripping wet after only being in the pool for a mere matter of minutes. It's hot and they are now forbidden from cooling their pale white skin in the cooling embrace of the pool. They stare and see all these old people swim and gargle in their water and raise their fists into the sky and internally scream "DAMN YOU!!! I'LL NEVER LET THIS HAPPEN AGAIN!!!"

There's literally like 7 people that object to this because men can't attend, and they're not even in the recent pages of the GAF thread.

Seems like there are way more people acting like there's a huge majority out there protesting this when it's obvious that 99 percent of people agree with this event or are neutral about it.

I think people want to act like the whole world is outraged about this event, just to rile themselves up and feel morally superior.

Lock this embarrassment of a thread already. Can't believe I woke up to this on the first page still.

there's like 10 blatant racists in GAF OT, so my conclusion is that folks talking about it are the real racists

Alamo may not be huge but I assure you if not the best, it's among the best movie experiences.

Before the showing of big movies they have personalized of random ass videos, ads, and youtube videos dealing with the topic. Aka avengers videos, for krampus they found a bunch of krampus shit from all over the world, etc...

They also have the ads of 'keep quiet or X' play, where usually they find a famous movie person to do a little personalized ad if it's a big enough movie. The Mad Max one is great. Not sure if it's Alamo exclusive, but regardless it's great.

Then there is the size of the theater. It's not huge and it's evenly spaced out. Since it's a restaurant/movie theater, it means there aren't as many seats, it's a smaller theater, and you have a hollow table in front of you with a bunch of space so you can stretch your legs like a king and can put your food on the big ass table.

Speaking of the food, they have the BEST food for movie theaters. Their popcorn is amazing, and you can get an assortment of personal sized pizzas, sandwiches, desserts, etc... hell they might sometimes have a special food. Such as fish and chips. It's great. They also have alcohol and mixed drinks/alcoholic desserts. Sometimes evena personalized drink for a big movie.

And finally of course it's their policy. Kids under 18 can't enter without a guardian with them. And their kick-out policy is fucking extreme. One warning, and second time you are kicked the fuck out. And people who go to Alamo aren't fucking around, they will rat you out if you are being a nuisance and the waiter will come and give you a warning without hesitation.

I love that chain so much, which is why it makes me so sad I don't have a closer one here in Fort Worth. Closest one is in Dallas, and I ain't driving that far for it. When I visit my friends in my hometown I try to go though.

I bet Gal Gadot never thought about the civil rights of the men who never got to pose in that picture above. Proof of discrimination.

Is there an example of such a screening in a large movie theater chain for another AAA movie in the US? Genuinely curious.

Alamo Drafthouse isn't a large movie theater chain. A couple examples I found with a quick Google:

http://houston.carpediem.cd/events/...-18-ladies-only-at-movie-tavern-at-deerbrook/
http://baysidejournal.com/these-theatres-are-screening-films-exclusively-for-women/
http://www.live5news.com/story/3416...reening-of-hidden-figures-to-be-held-saturday

If you enhance that picture, and clean out the pixelated image, you can see in the reflection of her eye a little boy who wanted to take a picture as well being held back as he cries trying to reach his hero.

This thread is still going.. if you object to a women's night screening -- I've seen women's nights, men's nights, kids nights, elders nights at theaters, shows, all sorts of venues -- I'm sorry to tell you but you're insane and projecting your own politics. It's not the screening that's political, it's you - you're revealing your fundamentalist MRA leanings.

When I was very little (like 3) I liked Wonder Woman and pretended to be her, but my parents kept telling me I couldn't since I was a boy and I should play as Superman. I'll be crushed if I can't go to the all women's screening. /s

How the hell is this an issue at all? I don't understand the internet at times.

This movie is gonna bomb so hard lol dc

Heard same shit for Ghostbusters too yeah will see in week or two

This thread is so pathetic, but box office thread will be even more so i think.
Dude, what's your obsession with whether this film succeeds or bombs? Every post of your's in here has been about hoping for it to bomb, which has nothing to do with the topic at all. We get it: for whatever reason you hate a film you haven't seen and hope it bombs (despite that being something that presumably effects you in no way). You have anything else to add, or are you just going to repeat yourself three more times before you disappear?

Same guy that defended Johnny Deep to death an called Amber Heard a devil. However, let's ignore that dude.

This "stunt" Alamo pulled has soured him on this movie and women who are okay with this stunt...or any woman really. He was an ally until this now this pushed him to the other side, as such he feels the only way to make this slight against men right is for the movie itself to bomb. Because after all he's all for equality but totally isn't for this misandry or "reverse sexism" that's happening.

We have many "Women Nights" here too, it's not something very rare but I don't really get it, I mean, when I go to theater, I'm not going because of the people I'll seat with but for the movie I want to watch.

I'm going to watch a movie, good or bad and I don't give a single fuck about who is in this theater, I don't really care if some men/women just want to be all together in a screening or not, I just want to enjoy the movie as much as possible.

let them have a women/men only screenings if it's making them better about themselves.

Well, the internet is made up of people. People can be extremely stupid..especially in large groups.
