Basically what I'm saying is fuck old games.

Like Jeff said, "Fuck all video games forever."

Writing something off immedately just because it's pixelart or has roguelike elements is way too reductive and quickly getting up there with classics like "Walking simualtor, not a game" and "looks like a PS2 game" that I expect from the average youtube comment.

I think it's okay to get super excited about marketing. Not my jam, but whatever.
But this "They all so jaded" thing is really, really dumb.

On the one hand people criticize reviews for only using the 7-10 scale, on the other hand they get angry when a preview for a game they want to be good isn't super glowing. Or people not dancing on tables for a fucking kickstarter announcement.

Nah.

Hype for an announcements and using the full review scale are two different things.

To me they did come off trying a bit too hard to be snarky/ironic, basically the same thing sites like Joystiq and Kotaku etc used to do for literally every article/headline like 5 years ago, and I kinda feel everyone else has moved on from that schtick.

I watch GB E3 conferences partially for the level-headedness, but also MST3K riffing on the weird shit that is E3. The hype reactions from journalists are basically the same as YouTube react videos, which everyone hates. As a fan? Sure, get really excited. But I don't get why people are against professionals not getting overly excited about the products they're covering. Especially since the "Year of Dreams" conference was 2 years ago and 2 out of the 3 games that made it special aren't looking playable till 2020.
Who could forget this classic E3 moment?

The best part is Jeff's total lack of enthusiasm

I mean it's not try hard when they literally have no interest in any of the 3 announcements lol. For good reason too. I mean I love the last guardian but at that point it's "fucking shit or get out".

The year of dreams is still not out and the one that has come out is totally forgettable which is the worst thing you can say about a team ico game

I mean vinny+alex+dan has been playing a shemnue game for 3 months except waaaay better so I'm interested to see how they would react.

Well, A) Nah.

and B) the eventual quality of the games announced is besides the point anyway, as you can only know that in hindsight.

I think you mean "Shit or get off the pot".

Anyway, I thought those 3 games were interesting announcements regardless or if you were looking forward to them or not, just because they all had a lot of industry baggage around them.

The MST3K style riffing works for funny production fuckups or dumb celebrity cameos and such, but for the games i prefer some more straight up reactions.

TLG is my game of the generation and probably my top 3 all-time. So no.

Zero investment in Shemue 3 or FF7R despite liking the originals a lot tho. Both will disappoint, I'm 99% certain.

Look, I'll give that shemnue and FF7 are total snoozefests but the last guardian is Top 5 games of this generation.

But being a platformer/metroidvania and rogue like are gameplay elements. It's okay to be tired of them.

I still laugh at the year of dreams. The idea that everyone should be excited for those three games (one of them being a remake) is hilarious. Some people are so close minded that can't fathom the idea that some just don't care.

TLG I get and Shenmue fans are crazy so of course that gets a response but I'm very wary of FFVIIR. To modernize it they're basically putting FFXV combat into FFVIIR, and FFXV really was a letdown. I'm sure for fans of FFVII they'll love it but I'm not sure people coming to it for the first time are going to enjoy it

But what if they use the gambit system?

Actually I wouldn't mind that because XII is the only FF I really liked.

I want to try TLG. I feel like 30 dollars is probably the lowest it'll be anytime soon. Most of the games I play are high paced action games. Maybe my brain needs something slower and calmer. I was stuck playing abzu while Nier downloaded it's update.

The Last Guardian is really good but so far it's the only game that made me wish I had a PS4 Pro. Frame rate and responsiveness on the regular PS4 are real rough.

I get wanting to play The Last Guardian but was it that much of a surprise? It was bound to appear eventually. And we had already seen how it plays anyway. It was a known quantity.

Shenmue was something I get people would get excited but assuming everyone has to go crazy for it is ridiculous.

The reaction that then led to backlash was embarrassing to watch.

The last guardian is the game that made me buy both a PS3 and PS4 Pro.

Though for the PS4 Pro I made damn sure this time that it was going to release before buying it. :p

Were you following TLG at all? I was fucking done by the time that re-reveal happened. It was either show me the receipts or it ain't happening.

Man, I can't stand the art style in the last couple Hot Shots Golf games. The character design is fine, but the mix of cartoony characters and objects in a low-detail "realistic" environment is ugly in a way that gets the hell under my skin. Same goes for some of the TT Lego games, too. (And, like, Playstation Home.)

The Last Guardian was one of the best videogames released in 2016.
I also look forward to playing FF7R in 2030.
Fuck Shenmue tho.

I just finished Persona 5 and that last boss rush + epilogue pushed it over Yakuza 0 for me. Sorry Yakuza supporters.

TLG is an outstanding game and probably my favorite from last year.
