Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite Characters and Stages Roster Discussion Thread

Assuming we get Richard Rider, he may look like the one on the right.

Nova_Designs_1_by_Ramon_Perez.jpg

The one on the left is Sam Alexander.

Sam can screw off. Getting Sam instead of Dick would be the real kick in the groin.

I mean it doesn't really seem that hard right?

SFV still shipped 1.4 despite no Arcade mode,Cinematic Story. This game has all that + an Xbox release. People here seem pretty upset with the roster , but Asura,Gene,Squirrel Girl aren't really gonna be helping them ship any more units. Lack of Wolverine and Xmen might take a hit but MCU is also much bigger now than back then.

Main driving factor would be reviews at launch , if they are happy and it gets 80+ on meta. Dont see why it wont hit 2m. Everyone here will complain , but buy the game anyway lol. And even if nobody here does buy it , Gaf is still such a minority.

The ire towards Capcom's decisions isn't exclusive to Gaf. Look around anywhere online right now. Not just online, but Capcom in general has really done no favors for their rep. The hate for this roster outweighs all of the positivity, which is very minimum to begin with. SFV put Capcom fighters under a huge microscope, so simply getting it based on its merit as a Capcom fighter is a thing of the past.

Most of their MCU choices are returning characters. No Loki, Black Panther, Winter Soldier, Black Widow, Star-Lord. Instead, we get Ultron (Good choice), Rocket/Groot, Gamora, and Ant-Man.

You have people that think the game looks like an inferior version of MVC3 based on visuals alone. Add in the ridiculously light roster, and no, I don't see 2 million being a given.

This game ain't for casuals because Wolverine not being there is the biggest no no. Wolverine is more popular and recognizable than anyone on the Marvel side of the roster and there isn't a close second.
Spider-Man & Iron Man say hi. Wolverine's still popular, but he isn't the face of Marvel (as a brand), anymore.

Sam can screw off. Getting Sam instead of Dick would be the real kick in groin.
It indeed would be, my friend. Hopefully we'll get Richard over Sam, but I'm getting a bit worried here.

People thought SFV's estimation of 2 million was conservative and it would easily make it.

Then the game released.

Marvel Infinite can go either way. I think marketing has to be big and those extra modes better be substantial.

He's also one of the simplest characters to play in an MvC game. He has tons of mixups which are quite easy to understand. Shame on them if he's not in the base roster.

One of the rumors I had heard a long time ago was that we would get Wolverine and Akuma as pre-order DLCs (no other X Men though).

I thought that was scumbaggy as hell when I heard it but right now... that's probably what Capcom would have to pull to get people to buy this game in droves on day 1.

Yeah that would probably interest a few people. I could see them pulling it at E3. Especially when Darkseid was the same Schlick for Inj2 and Goro for MKx

The fact that they made 1 of the antagonists DLC tells me they wouldn't do anything as cool as making pre-order character DLC.

Would be great, though.

For the record... pre-order DLC is corporate scumbaggery of the highest order (especially DLC of this magnitude). I would never condone that shit.

how do I slip unnoticed out of a gloryhole booth?
Are Spiderman characters tied up in this licensing mess with Fox? Dr. Octopus and Green Goblin where ones that I was hoping for, given that they are probably popular (being iconic spiderman villains) and could easily be made into very unique fighting game characters. I also figured Jill wouldn't be coming back, but hoped her moveset would be slapped onto Black Widow who I assumed would be a given, but here we are...

it's a 2v2 game so if Jedah and Morrigan are fun, I suppose I'm set, but it definitively feels like a game I'll be picking up on sale at some point down the line when the DLC has had time to settle in.

It'd be "great" in the sense that for some people still committed to getting this day one, they'd get an extra 2 characters. But yeah would be kinda shitty for everyone else

There's like literally no reason Darkseid shouldn't be playable to everyone aside from greed. Shit is super scummy and surprised WB/NRS didn't get more shit for it.

Sony has the movie rights to Spiderman, not Fox

I didn't think Spider-Man characters were an issue, but maybe they wanted to keep some exclusive to the Sony game?
I imagine Green Goblin would be similar to Firebrand, so he looks less likely now. Best we'll get is probably Venom and maybe Ock.

With almost any game releasing from September on, the chance of Black Friday discounts is pretty high. Might be worth waiting.

Nah, Sony Pictures aren't an issue.

I really hope we don't get that visual design in this game.

Nova's design in UMVC3 was absolutely perfect.

Well so far they've been basing their designs on comics first and foremost. I would expect a MCU Nova costume though.
Possibly a Sam Alexander one too

There was a Sam costume for Richard in UMvC3, which was based on the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon version of Sam. Hopefully something similar happens for MvCI (& not have the roles reversed to where Richard is the alt).

I consider WB to be a member of the Triumvirate of Trash. It's been coming under scrutiny a bit more often lately, but it still heavily flies under the radar compared to EA and Ubisoft.

That was when Sam was still a brand-new character. But I do hope that Capcom was allowed to make Rider the main. I do think Marvel has come around trying to shove Sam down everyone's throat, which is why they brought back Rider and stopped shoehorning Sam into everything.

I think they underestimate how many people will pass in frustration when they learn there's no Wolverine or any X-Men at all.

I agree it's more about having an easier time selling DLC Zero and Wesker than Spencer and Nemesis. You also get to release characters you can design with a skeleton crew post launch as DLC that will for sure be purchased. The roster we got was also likely shrunk due to a small budget. It would cost too much to design more new characters, so they'll release some as DLC alongside the returning favorites to keep a small post-development team busy.

The X-Men stuff was likely due to the embargo. We have hope now that Future Fight is adding X-Men, but Netmarble staff was surprised as they had no idea that was coming. I'm sure the dev team here got surprised too, then got to work on porting those designs, but couldn't make it in time for release.

A F2P design ala LoL or Marvel Heroes really should've been the way to go.

edit: I also would never trust what Combo or Evans say about this game. It's all just PR speak.

It's 28 + 6 new DLC characters for a total of 34.

They clearly put the new ones as DLC to avoid complaints about having to pay $5 for an imported MvC3 character.
Let's be realistic here..
More likely than not, they'll follow the sfv model..
So 2/3 season passes, and no option to get a goty edition unless you go digital, and they can handle the digital price, whereas after 5 months top the physical would be half price..
Once upon a time you had the full game..
Then came dlcs..
Then the season pass..
Now multiple season passes...

And C tier characters like Bone Claw Wolverine, Marrow, Servbot, SonSon, Silver Samurai and Dan.

MVC2 is cool and all but that roster will NEVER work today. Not just from the Marvel side.. but that Capcom side is so wack with more than half being SF characters.

that argument will never work on me because I had way too much fun playing random versus matches with friends and all the characters are okay with me

only in fighting game rosters do gamers suddenly decide 'fewer options is better'

plus like DR2k said, many A++++ awesome fun to play and great to look at characters

edit for edit

why not?

Please, hardcore MvC fans, casuals, and character fans alike:

Say "No" to MCU vs Capcom! And if you must buy it, wait until someone returns it to gamestop where you can pay $55 instead of $60.

Please!

As in "Heathcliff"
If they were really trying to push new shit instead of reusing assets they would def use "Not a Hero" Chris by your logic.

We're talking Capcom side. They could have kept Haggar and kept that series representation.

Man, I would love to see Mike Haggar coming back. I'm not sure why they wouldn't bring him back since he should work in MVCI just fine, with his trusty pipe.

So many A tier choices that the C tiers don't matter, they're just extra and fun.

MVCi is just a roster of 20 c tiers and some staple choices.
This is incorrect and you know it. It's probably the opposite, 20 staple choices and 8 that are questionable. Like no way are they going to cut characters like Iron Man, Spider Man, Thor, Dante, Frank West, Chris etc. that actually move merchandise and sales aka more than 8 people on forums know who they actually are.

Man, they couldn't just copy and paste characters from UMVC3? They already made them.
They could have easily had War Machine, and etc added. MVC2 literally copied and pasted characters from MVC, MVS etc. Shoot, Morgan wasn't redrawn for years but she was added...

I understand if Xmen are not a focus, so remove them but everyone else? Why didn't they add C Viper if they weren't going to add Captain Commando? Why not reskin Wolverine as Black Panther?

As mentioned earlier, there would have been cuts on the Marvel side either way.

And concerning reskinning Wolverine into Black Panther, that would mean that Wolverine can't eventually be DLC.

No, that is also incorrect because they could've still had 10 more characters.

Capcom:

Phoenix Wright
Amaterasu
Viewtiful Joe
Haggar
Any one of Vergil/Wesker/Zero/Trish/Tron Bonne

Marvel:

Dormammu
She Hulk
Ghost Rider
MODOK
Iron Fist

None of these characters needed to be cut. There is no licensing issue or deal with FOX/Sony/Disney whoever the fuck. God damn Dormammu is even in the MCU!

agreed, iron man is a villain

That Magnash skin looks sick!

They'll sell the popular characters from 3 as DLC.

Zero, Wesker, Vergil and so on will be on the top of the priority list IMO.

I'm pretty sure people know every one of the underlined characters because of assorted movies

That wasn't even true at the time of MvC2!

Capcom has it much harder, all their people are only from games

I am more than skeptical about people knowing Silver Samurai. He still is an extremely obscure character despite being in the movies. Same goes for, say, Whiplash. They didn't exactly take off in popularity because they were super bland baddies in subpar movies.
The reason why Loki is so popular isn't only because he was in a Marvel movie.

Also, back in MvC2 times, people played the games for the X-Men cause those were the hot shit back in the day, especially since most people who played the Capcom Marvel fighting games grew up on the X-Men cartoon and comics for the most part. So the games accompanied those cartoons/comics. It's also why the series had its origins in 2 games only featuring the X-Men from Marvel.

Beyond the X-Men, the only notable Marvel franchises were Spider-Man and Hulk. Iron Man was a C-lister at that time, and the Fantastic Four were past their prime in popularity.
