GUILTY GEAR Xrd REV 2 |OT| Holy Smokes Baiken!

They made lobby navigation 3d this time but when I plug in a gamepad (non-dual analog), camera rotates constantly making it impossible to pick a match.

Hope it will be fixed soon. Will have to wait few days before netplay issues of Steam version are sorted out and players move to Rev2.

Baiken is very well done, I take it back. Best presentation too, reminding me of Samurai Spirits and Last Blade.

DId some online with Baiken. Most matches were rather choppy (around 19 frames) and a few were good (8-9 frames). Still, I feel that her playstyle works decently with lag. In fact, I feel a bit too good considering I haven't played in ages. I get destroyed most of the time in SF5, but here I can hold my own.

My standard approach is jump in, HS, a few standing slashes, c.HS, do the chain grab and a followup. If the opponent is fairly stationary, this works all the time. If they jump around a lot, I use the diagonal chain grab or the uppercut. My main problem is when they get really aggressive as I haven't found a good defensive anti-air, but I haven't really checked the entire moveset yet.

Here's a little Super move / Instant Kill video I put together. I know I'm late to the party, but I've got the game running at 5K then I recorded at 4K at a tremendous bitrate. If you got a 4K T.V., then enjoy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQJOwHMX85

The Bitrate quality is probably good enough to be able to grab screenshots from for a background pic if you want.

Wait, how'd you get it to render at 5K? I went into the .ini file and tweaked things there but those settings never stick.

Sad to see no action in this thread so I just want to say I love this game sooooooooooo much!

Even won online for the first time the other night. Got my arse kicked a good seven times (!!) by the same guy afterwards but they were damn CLOSE! Ah, such a good feeling.

I really gotta keep my inputs cleaner though. Watching the replay and at points I'm just mashing trying to get moves out.

So I just got this update and thinking about getting into this game yet again. I heard Sol is good place to start and learn basics but after that is there a character which is more focused on buttons and defense?

Is there an EU friend who wants to play with me?

Sure, if you don't mind playing against a total scrub lol.

Is anyone successfully using 2 dualshock 4's with this on Steam? If I press "options" on controller 1 then it starts using the input from controller 1 for both player 1 & 2, but I can't get it to recognize input from controller 2. I'm using DS4windows.

I got the upgrade last night and before that had only really played about 2 hours of single player ever. Anyway after watching that new series on cross counter with tasty and sojam i decided to play one online match to test it out. I used Sol like they suggested and just used fundamentals. And i won lol. It was close and i mostly had no idea what the opponent could do but use some fireballs, dps and basic comboes and got the win. Even with that basic knowledge the game felt really damn fun to play. There is a freedom of movement you have that just doesn't happen in SFV.

While SFV will remain my go to fighter i now def want to put some time into this as it plays really well. It seems super complex at first because of so many systems but after watching the CCTV episode its really not that complex to get your head around.

Oh I forgot to mention that I'm playing on Playstation. Are you on PC or PS4?

PS4. Psn is myco666. Is there a invite system or something?

I just get steamrolled the minute a fight starts. Maybe two hits in and then just get hit and my health melts lol.

Whats the player base size for this game and what method do people suggest using for online.

When i did it last night the big lobbies were mostly empty so i did a friend match which found me a lobby and i hopped on and played. Is that what most people do?

Im about to go on holiday for a week but when i get back i wanna take a break from SFV and give this a proper go.

All i knew was to keep mobile which i did from the get go. It has air blocking etc so unlike sf you can be mobile and safe at the same time which i remember doing years back in games like capcom vs SNK.

Im sure i lucked out but it was damn fun and i wanna give the game more time.

Sure. It is not like I know something.

Oh ok, I'll just keep editing this post with info.

So first of all try to look for more situations to use your DP, it's a really good tool to defend against pressure (don't use it too often though)

Edit: I'll try to repeat my moves, look for opportunities to counter them (Hint: Just DP everything, especially when I run into you after I knock you on the ground)

Oh if our group is growing we could also make a lobby so it's easier to find everyone

Edit: Bye Bye myco666, thanks for the games!

Thanks! Was fun even if I was getting totally mauled lol. Gotta start somewhere.

Bye! Just keep at it and you'll slowly improve, also visit the combo mode for Sol so you'll get a better view of what your character can do after you land certain hits

Yeah I should check some combos so I know something else than S, HS. That throw input is also something that feel super weird.

Had a quick go in training on a couple of chars. The new ninja lady with the eye patch has the best forward wall ever and seemed interesting. I thought the girl with the anchor who shoots dolphins was pretty fun. Her ultimate where she fires your opponent out a cannon on her sky pirate ship was great.

I also got that nitro+ blasters heroines infinate duel a while back in a sale. While im no fan of anime any more (liked it 20 years ago when i was 15) i do seem to like these specials that "make the anime happen" lol.

When i get back from my week away im gonna go through everyone's training and find what char suits me the most and put some work in i think. After almost a year and a half of SFV I dont think im progressing much anymore so just learning things in this game in training alone is really fun. I only play casually (5-8 hours a week) so its not like i ever get great at these games. But i refound my love of fighting games when MKX came out and im trying to embrace it. I basically don't play anything else these days lol.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
So I just installed Rev 1(will update to Rev 2 during PSN $100 Promo), but quick question:

Arcade mode states that it is worth playing first to see what each character is up to before the actual story mode. So I chose Jam and went through all 8 stages and there was nothing. Just end credits.

Did I miss something? Do only a few select characters get endings? I mean her post win-fight text basically states how all those she beats are now relegated to servants in her restaurant. Just wondering if this is all the context to expect from each fighter?

She was an exception. She was a character introduced after Rev1 released in arcades. Didn't get a story mode back then. Gets one in Rev2 though. Not 100 percent sure, but Raven, Kum, and Dizzy don't have one either due to being console release. They all should be in Rev2, however.

Ah thanks. Of course I just chose the one character that is the exception. Good to know then.

Ah, I forgot they didn't have arcade endings. I guess that'll give me something to do since Guilty Gear's online is completely fucked for me and Tekken 7's online, as a PS4 user, is currently completely fucked for me.

Thinking of giving GG another try since after failing to get into SFV I really have no fighting game I'm currently playing. Does the community generally stay active for these games? East coast USA if that matters with regards to finding games with decent connections.

It gets good numbers at tournaments, usually right behind SFV and the Smash games. GG community is still very active in the US.

Yep, I'm not playing Answer. Not that he is not fun as heck (and actually what I wanted Bang to be), but his toolset just doesn't mesh with my mindset.

Saw all the hype about this recently, found a demo on PS4 and downloaded only to figure out it was expired. Bummer, I'd like to try it out before I drop $60 on it.

Edit: As someone who has just recently gotten back into fighting games again after playing a helluva lot of Souls over the past decade, how does GG fit on the animation priority vs input timing scale for a fighting game? Playing Injustice 2 again recently feels really awkward due to the complete disconnect between animation and input timing after all the years of playing heavy animation priority action games, I'm looking for other options that feel a bit more natural.

I think the best bet for an animation priority fighting game would be For Honor. Guilty Gear has a different feel from Injustice 2 in that the game has hitstop and hitsparks and other things (better key-frames and animations, etc), but it's not a game that is going to feel natural to someone looking for heavy animation priority stuff imo.

Cool, thanks for the info. I've actually sunk a decent amount of time into For Honor, it's what led me to realize that I should give more fighting games a try since I really stopped exploring the genre a decade ago. I'm not expecting to find anything else with the same extent of animation priority as Souls/For Honor, just looking for a little bit more connection between animation timing and input. I remember Tekken feeling a bit more natural, so I may give Tekken 7 a try also. For a genre that I've heard is in decline forever now, it feels like there's a lot of cool games to try out - my poor wallet.

Just bought the steam version 2 days ago. I have never played a GG before but I love the style so I wanted to try this out. I'm liking Baiken, Dizzy, Johnny and Elphelt the most so far, so which one of these do you guys think is the most noob friendly?
Also, the tutorials in this game are amazing, I did not expect that.

Elphelt definitely the simplest out of those. It goes like:
Elphelt < Dizzy < Johnny < Baiken imo

Elphelt is very simple with ridiculous normals and safe moves in neutral.
Dizzy isn't hard but has tones of setups of different situations that you need to learn.
Johnny is execution heavy with a bit of resource management.
Baiken is execution heavy and require learning a critical mechanic that's unique just to her.

Baiken or Elphelt. Johnny and Dizzy are harder.

Is there any sort of online resource that gives a quick breakdown of the cast? I'm new to GG (aside from blistering the hell out of my thumbs mashing in GGX2 way back when) and would like to read up on the characters when I can't have the game up in front of me!

EDIT: How substantial are the balance changes done between this Rev1 and 2? Are any characters altered heavily in gameplan between versions?

I am sure there is a wiki. but when you do have the game on, check the internal resources, it has everything you will ever need to know about Guilty Gear
