An easy show. Sony went full conservative. Seems they have decided to show games already announced with a small release window, mostly.

The thing is that we all now that there are more conferences this year, specially PSX and there are things that hasn't been showed yet, like the Sucker Punch's new game.

Some great, previously announced content..but few big surprises. I'd hoped to see either Spider-man or God of War hit for the holidays as well.

Also wondering what is up with 'Dreams' as that was a complete no show (I thought that a VR mode would be announced and Star Wars Battlefront II VR content would have been announced during Sony's conference).

Solid but not up to the insane glory of the past two conferences, but at least it's a mile above E3 2014.

I liked the indepth gameplay of God Of War and a bit more on Days Gone, but only GOW really grabs my interest. Moss actually looked to be my favourite game of the show.

At least Sony has a wide range of releases coming out this year and some games for next year, so there isn't the exclusive drought that people may be fearing based on this conference. If next year there's no major annoucements that'll be a cause of concern, but the elephant in the room with a lack of Sucker Punch means their game will be at PSX 2017 or E3 2018.

7/10 for me. :)

On Tweeter MM said they will show/announce something later this year

Ahh ok, i was wondering the same, i kind of expected it to be the last game, i was waiting for it to appear. Shall seek it.
In all honesty they should've had that trailer (along with Ni no Kuni 2) in the actual conference.

It would've boosted the overall presentation immensely.

Is there a rundown anywhere on what's releasing in 2017?

I feel like Sony blew its load in the first half of the year and I've got nothing to look forward to.

GOW is shaping up to be pretty great, Days Gone looks like it'll be fun, if not particularly revolutionary. SotC remaster looks pretty as hell, will probably find time for it as I always do. Spiderman it all depends on how it feels to play. Looks like they have all the right elements in place but I can't really be confident until I try true swinging myself.

They usually let multiplatform games from 3rd-parties take over during the second half of the year.

Especially during holiday season.

Solid, no massive surprises just like Xbox, however unlike Xbox Sony has a massive slate of triple a games coming in 2018 that look mind blowing.

It was such a forgettable conference with it just being a video playlist and nothing more.

There was also little in the way of diversity shown with scripted narrative driven games above all else.

It's a shame as I was so hyped for this and expect more from Sony. But the truth is that Microsoft showcased a far more diverse and interesting bunch of games, even if many weren't exclusive.

That doesn't take away from how excited I am to play God of War and the SotC remaster though. Also Sony does have an incredibly diverse lineup, they just chose not to focus on that stuff in the conference.

I think it's been one of the weaker sony conferences for a while. I did like that they spent 90% of it showing off games and most of it was not a cgi trailer. However, it was lacking the wow/surprise factor.

-Monster hunter looked really clunky (never played past games).

-Shadow of the colossus, don't see why another remaster is needed, couldnt see a big enough jump to make it feel like a full blown remake either (will need to watch a comparison at some point to see the differences)

- god of war was ok. Was nice to see that it retains the scale with the world serpent but I think they could have shown some dynamic boss battle similar to how they showed off poseidon boss battle before gow3 launched.

- uncharted trailer was unfortunately ruined by the issues with the twitch stream so will go back and watch that.

- days gone feels too similar to other games for me so I didn't feel as hyped for it. I think this game has quite an uphill battle against uncharted, last of us and even horizon.

- horizon dlc trailer didn't really hype me too much, but on the plus side it didn't spoil much either.

- Still lacking a strong reason to buy vr, although "inpatient" seems interesting. not interested in 3rd person vr though so the other games didn't do much for me.

I was honestly expecting some surprise announcement like crash, wipeout were last year.

So whilst the format was great, it was lacking the oomph. Feel the same with all the other conferences. This has been the most boring e3 in a while :(

Disappointing conference, the only new things were already leaked and one is a remaster of SOTC and the other one it's not even exclusive. Everything was 2018.

Honestly MS and Sony conferences are both on the same level, 6/10 for me.

This E3 in general has been underwhelming.

huh? there were a lot of 2018 titles.

Sony's games and line up is flat out worse than it was on PS3, which had less press x to action and more variety

they got rid of a ton of devs (MS, Socom) Games like GOW that tlou clone just don't feel nearly as good as EW2, Wolf 2 were looking at all.

Hell, I was actually pretty hyped for KZ2 and it's reveals but not horizon so much.

Sony first party has went way downhill for me this generation and I don't see that changing soon.

On top of my head.

Everybody's Golf
Uncharted TLL
Knack 2
GT Spoort
That's You!
Hidden Agenda
Horizon ZD Frozen Wilds

And bunch of PSVR titles.

That's just first party.

I was half asleep watching the conference, unless i missed something, it was ..... short?
I mentioned in another thread earlier, after MS conference , sony could save some announcements for later if needed, and i personally think that was the case: no new huge announcements, except for a few , like SotC remaster, and already known games.

Looks that they didn't feel the need to show games that are still far away. it was a bit disappointing, very average e3 from platform holders, but.... well, expected after watching MS one. Sony had no pressure at all.

Very good but not at the same level as 2016 in terms of surprises.

It would have been nice to see a brand new AAA IP reveal. But I guess they need to keep something in the tank for PSX.

It was an okay conference.
Sony blowing it's load in the past two years + all the other companies having solid showings = it was pretty clear Sony's would have been "underwhelming".
They already have announced a couple of 2019+ games, so they're probably gearing up new announcements for next year, while this year they doubled down on what was already revealed.

Console exclusives (some are PC also)

June:
Crash N. Sane Trilogy
Nex Machina
Valkyria Revolution
FFXIV Stormblood

July:
FFXII HD
Pyre

August:
Hellblade
Matterfall
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
Everybody's Golf
Warriors All-Stars
Yakuza Kiwami
Lawbreakers

September:
Knack 2
Ys VIII
DanganRonpa V3

November:

Ni no Kuni 2

Still some decent stuff to come, but way below the level of the 1st 5 months, plus a few that are still a vague "2017"

I don't know if serious, but if you are that's not how things work. People prep for days if not weeks. Not sure you can make changes just like that, the day before none the less.

Solid and safe. Expected I guess. Focus was seeing more of known games launching within 12 months or less timeframe, giving PS VR more of a push and mixing in a few mid level surprises.

Felt they needed but more talking ironically.

But in their position in market it was enough I reckon to keep them safe after MS's also safe and low key effort: simply having more obvious exclusives was enough in market terms.

E3 this year is going to be low in surprises I suspect and more about reinforcement of messaging and reminders of progress on stuff already announced.

Expected really: early on there's more big blow outs to generate interest/momentum when gen is fresh; there has to be a bit of a slump mid gen to Compensate.

Doesn't make the show feel very wow though.

Soooo, what are you guys expecting in terms of release dates for the 2018 games?

I'm thinking something like:
March - God of War
May - Detroit
Summer - Shadow of the Colossus
September - Spiderman
November - Days Gone

If its something like that, Sony's already slaying 2018 before it even begins.

I mean it wasn't a bad conference but wtf are sucker punch, fromsoftware and media molecule doing
likely they didn't have enough time to create an E3 demo ready. It's not as if some manager walks into a dev's office and says "Yo Jane I'd like you to create an E3 demo " and Jane then says "Sure, you'll have it in an hour!". These things take weeks if not months to create, based on a fork of the assets / code (which are often still in full swing) with a separate team (who thus can't work on the main game). They're literally demos and made to show what will come, with a LOT of stuff simply faked because it's not fully implemented yet.

So it might very well be they're not able to show things simply because they're not able to fork off a reasonable set of assets/code to produce a demo.

Just watched the conference. Kind of underwhelming, to be honest. Not enough new announcements and surprises. I don't care about new trailers of Uncharted, God of War etc. I want to see some *new* games. But that's just me. Oh well, there's always next year
and TGS later this year
.

SoC remake looked nice and Detroid might actually be a good David Cage game. We'll see.

Games look great, but the conference wasn't great. Just a playlist, had little personality. I preferred watching the Microsoft one. Half the stuff isn't even out this year, compared to other conferences that are showing off games we're going to get soon.

April - Days Gone
May - Spiderman
September - Shadow of the Colossus

Days Gone is the one I'm having the most trouble deciding. I think it'll be out before E3 next year but I'm not sure where it fits in.

Sony has the best lineup of games, so in my opinion it didn't matter much that we didn't get to see new games, but it was a little short for me. Uncharted, God of War, Detroit and Spider Man really impressed me.

IMO best conference this year, and that says a lot, because it think this was just ok.

Quicktime events seem to be back in a big way. Not complaining, I don't mind them at all.

Man Sony kicked ass again. So many good-looking exclusives. Exclusive Destiny content again.

Days Gone looks amazing... too bad I will never play it, i would get an heart attack.

GoW i never was too much into but changed settings and camera look good to me.

Everybodys Golf looked good to me, PS3 versions were too clunky.

Sucker punch haven't shown anything in about 3 years though

I don't know whether it was because the other conferences underwhelmed me, or because I came into it without any expectations, but I loved this conference.

In terms of structure it was fantastic. Very little telling, rather a lot of showing. I'm not sure what people were expecting, but they showed a lot of content that's coming out within the next 12 months.

The thing that I am most happy about is the fact that Sony is allowing developers to take risks and be flexible with what video games can be as a medium.

All those cinematic story driven games are starting to look really similar to me.
Last Of Us, Days Gone, GOW, Horizon all have the same visual look to them as well as similar set pieces or scenarios.
Spiderman looked joyful though.

yes, i was told this before, but maybe i am weird, but if i am having a conference that is close to the competitors one, i'd have alternatives. It is probably not possible to alter 3rd party announcements, but for first party, i am sure they can. As i said, the conference was short, so it makes some sense at least.

I'm glad I went to bed now, catching up on it just now but that was very disappointing.

It breaks away from the tradition of big surprises we've had for the last couple of years but the thing is that idea isn't necessarily sustainable in of itself, plus (and I said this in one of the other e3 threads) I felt that it was fully possible that due to Sony's habit for announcing stuff well in advance that they could just focus on those announced titles; which they then did.

It was average on the whole but almost none of the content they showed was of much relevance to me (which has becoming a very disappointing theme for this year's E3 I've noticed).
Only game of interest to me was Spiderman, and the wind came out of my sails on that one hard when I realised how heavy on Arkham combat and QTEs it was.

4/10

Summary:
EA 2/10
MS 6/10
Bethesda 6/10
Devolver Digital WTF/10
PC Gamer 4/10
Ubi 5/10
Sony 4/10

This hasn't been a good E3 for me =/

Ok, can't disagree more, they have the strongest first party out of the big three for me not to mention second party.

I was disappointed by the lack of Square Enix, but I guess the rumors regarding VII remake development hell are true.
Also no RDR 2

Arkham combat is the best combat in third person action game in a very long time, I hope Spider-Man feels as good.
