Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood |OT| Y'all Need to Calm Down

Haly

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
When you get past floor 50 in potd, you can start new runs at 51 (level 60 gameplay) for all classes/jobs.

I like the novice status. Now I don't have to apologize in advance for being shit at tanking.
Is that some kind of new thing or do you just mean the leaf icon in front of your name? Did they change it somehow?

I kinda wish you could re-enable it or something. My main jobs are WHM and DRK but I'm almost too afraid to tank any instances because I've been away from the game for so long...

After I get Dark Knight to 70 I'm probably going to start in on some DPS jobs next.

I just ran my first instance yesterday as a tank / dark knight, and was pretty underwhelmed.

Seemed like I just stuck with the 1-2-3 of Hard Slash → Spinning Slash → Power Slash with Unleash in groups and Unmend to hit strays. Just curious, but are you trying to minimize the time you're in Grit so you can take advantage of Blood Weapon? Do you just want to be in Grit all the time?

I don't know...I'd been wanting to play DRK for a long time, but it just felt...not as cool as I'd been expecting... : /

Now, AST on the other hand...

Oh shit I had no fucking idea. In my defense, I only just cleared PotD 50 this weekend and I haven't reset my other save for a RDM run yet!

I told you to do POTD literally months ago. You finished BOTW, Persona 5, and Nier in that time.

I think so. When I logged in I received a notification that I was eligible for returner's bounty.

Players who have not played the game in 45 days or more, and have at least one class or job at level 50 or above, will now receive the Returner status.

Players who receive the Returner status are eligible to accept the Returner's Bounty, which consists of the following:

- Access to the Novice Network.
- An EXP bonus when partying with a Mentor up to level 20.
- The Returner online status icon.

I tanked The Antitower yesterday but my rotation (WAR) is a complete shambles and lost aggro a bit too often (WHERE DID FLASH GO?????). On the plus side no one died lol.

They simplified Dark's core but made Dark Arts more friendly and common to use. It was too convoluted at times before but I feel like they could have done a little more even while getting rid of buttons. They put too much weight onto Syphon Strike's combo, for example.

It'll probably need a few tweaks, same with Warrior. That's my only real complaint is with tanking in Stormblood. Like it's nothing bad but Tanks and Healers should have received extra attention to make appealing in the face of only adding DPS classes. The best revisions actually just went to more DPS.

I mentioned it before, but I recommend going to 51 solo when you want to level a new class - set up all your shortcuts for lv 60 once and you won't have to fiddle with them until 63.

One thing I'm really grateful for about the Stormblood patch is that it unlocked the 50/60 Dungeon Roulette for me, since I hadn't bothered completing a bunch of those dungeons to unlock it myself.

Quick question:

Did the ever release the gold saucer versions of the Garo armour you can buy with MGP? I'm sure I heard that was going to be a thing.

Wew. Finally got on and got up to Cold Steel.

Wtf is this. There's a bajillion enemies and despite being told to focus on the Magitek Armour, while my allies pick up the slack, they're doing fuck all.

Just attack the armor... It'll go down.. eventually...

Eventually...

So I'm about to be arriving in Kugane... I'll leave that for something to do tomorrow! Got samurai to 61. Productive day!

Yeah I died a couple of times because I had no idea what the battle was asking of me (playing DRG). As it turns out, all the enemies simply have 574656456347564387543 HP. What I did in the end was take out one of the side enemies (sloooooooooowly) while killing all the trash mob adds. Then I took out the middle named bad guy. While killing all he trash mob adds. And I dodged all the AOEs and whenever the mines appeared I ran to the edge of the screen to pull them away. Then I went back and wailed on the armor for 60 years, ignoring the last enemy on the side. Eventually the next cutscene triggered.

Terrible solo duty. Thankfully the next one REALLY makes up for it.

Sweet, that's all I care about.

Are the expensive? Hit lucky on cactpot a few times

Can't remember. All I know is that I couldn't afford them and proceeded to do Frontlines. I'm poor.

Yep, just made it this time. I like the concept but man, it was a tough one.

Back at work... and thinking back on the EA weekend which was not bad at all:

- Reached rank 8 with my FC (3 people only)
- Got a House
- Finally Dyed my chocobo (Rust red+Hive Barding)
- Got SAM to 60 with i270 gear
- Got PLD to 50

And now a question for you PLD experts out there...

Should I be dancing between Shield+Sword Oath in Dungeons the same I dance between Deliverance and Defiance with the Warrior? Or Do I keep shield oath 100% of the time?

Hey guys, when Heavensward came out I worked through the ARR MSQ, but I was halfway through the extra 2.x content when I burned out and moved on to other things.

I notice they're now selling boosts to jump to the expansions, but is it worth playing through all the Heavensward and 3.x stuff? It seemed from the FC chat at the time you were all really enjoying it.

If you have the time and inclination to play through ~50 hours of kickass FF content, yes it is absolutely worth it. HW and 3.x stuff is a tight narrative focused on the story of Ishgard and the Dragonsong War, very well done, fantastic climax in 3.x and a great build up to Stormblood.

Yeah it's worth it. Heavensward is excellent. Plus many things happen that are carrying on now into Stormblood. It'd be like skipping disc 2 of FFVII.

As someone who was rather critical of the 2.0 game, Heavensward does a lot of things better. Environments and music are amazing and storytelling is also improved. Still the same fetch quests of old though.

So I wouldn't really recommend skipping it.

Thanks, guys. I'll work through it. It was a nice incentive at the time to keep me at ARR seeing everyone pop in to the chat with their "I. Can. FLY"s, but I was always sad I didn't finish the journey. It's also nice to have the benefit of the busy period without the longer queues for the new stuff, and hopefully if I can stay with it until I reach the Stormblood stuff, the wait times will be way down by the time I get there.

Is it hard to become a mentor? I like the novice chat a lot since it's so active but I'm afraid I'll be kicked out soon.

So which tank is the most "fun" to play in Stormblood? Not really looking for the best one but the most enjoyable. Is PLD still boring?

Man, so they really gutted and made SCH a pretty awful class from what I'm seeing. The hell are they thinking with these nerfs? They hit just about every facet of the class.

Also, as much as the WHMs are complaining it seem like that class is still ok. Granted, they overbuffed the SHIT out of AST to the point where I might just buy a jump potion for it so I can still heal.

Does SMN get any of its complexity back? They took away the timers and one of the three DoTs to manage, but so far it's not been replaced with anything (I'm 66). All the new abilities have been basically automatic. Ruin IV procs? Don't worry about it, we'll take care of that for you. Bio/Miasma 3? Just replace the old ones, again, don't worry about it.

I'm waiting for something to be added that makes it more interesting, which is a shame, as I've mained SMN since the start and always really enjoyed it!

Wait 4 mil MGP or 4 mil gil?

Because the Garo stuff is bought with MGP, and holy shit if you're sitting on 4 mil MGP.

Shit, my bad. It's 400k I have haha. Have never ever spent it but been pretty consistent with cactpot.

Separate question for someone. Have they added a 235 Katana as a reward for doing all the POTD crap?

To become a mentor you need to have the following :

Have a lvl 60 dps tank and healer job.

Have 300 commendations.

Have done a 1000 dungeons or trials.

Warrior feels too much like 3.x paladin now. Going try the other jobs, and maybe change my main...
Yeah thats what i'm feeling although I never experienced 3.x paladin personally.

Good thing I'm also interested in leveling my MNK to lv70 + also interested in RDM, SAM and AST.

If you do become a Mentor, please do not tell newbies the "best way to level is PotD".

PotD is cancer I swear. Doesn't teach you the game and only makes people act like complete assholes.

Nope to either questions, due to the differences in stances for PLD. Thankfully, swapping no longer interrupts your combo, but on PLD, it costs both mana and a GCD, which introduces the following considerations. Also note that you can also just DROP the stance, which costs no mana or GCDs:

- Will I need to swap into Shield Oath within the next few GCDs due to losing aggro or damage from enemies? If yes, then just drop the stance, instead of swapping, and put it back on when needed. You can even argue that there is no point in dropping it all, for the small gain in damage.

- Can I do at least 9 GCD attacks before having to swap back into Shield Oath? If yes, then swap to Sword Oath.

The introduction of the Oath gauge also puts even more emphasis on knowing when and where to swap stances, because it now powers Sheltron, which is even more powerful than it already was.

If you want to maximize your damage as a PLD, it helps to do a couple of aggro combos in the pull (and ask for help from your DPS and off-tank via their enmity reduction / transfer skills), and then swap to Sword Oath and do as many DPS rotations as you can.

Tried out PotD as Red Mage.

Whole damn group is Red Mages.

An Uematsu tune starts up.

Wait a minute, this is my FF1 group.

Frumix

Suffering From Success
Lakshmi EX dead.
She's even easier than Susano to execute (though a bit harder to learn) but both so bad at their job that I could learn and farm them with EU pugs in 3-4 pulls.

Don't know how I feel about this.

My main is only lvl 36. I haven't played this game in years. I just bought heavensward yesterday. Is there a point to me buying his xpac or can I not even touch the content until I'm max lvl?

I'd say earliest Stormblood content can be unlocked at Lv50 (Red Mage and Samurai jobs).

Otherwise, no SB story starts after clearing 3.55 so HW + a couple of big patches between 3.0 and 3.55 while SB is 4.0

Instead of buying heavensward, you should've bought stormblood since it includes heavensward.

AST Job quest spoiler:

Leveva calls someone a Geomancer. Geomancer coming next expansion maybe?
Yeah they play up the idea that Astrologian and
Geomancer
are polar opposites like Black Mage and White Mage, with one drawing power from energies of the stars in the sky and the other drawing power from the planet that they are on and that fundamentally they are extremely similar concepts and combined could be extremely powerful.

He's mistaken, you require Wolf Marks to purchase Garo gear. Wolf marks are earned from pvp, which is actually quite active right now so it shouldn't be too hard to get.

I was thinking as I was exploring Kugane: why can't the design be more fantasy Asian inspired, and not just boring stuff taken from "real life"?

It just seems like a missed opportunity. Why would Japan be plopped down in Eorzea?
I mean it's not like they have a New York City in Eorzea too.
I wasn't aware that talking seals and turtle people were from real life Japan.

I think what has to be taken into consideration is that the western metric for "fantasy Japan" is often basically everything, because we lack the cultural knowledge to know what is real and what is fantasy.

You didn't say, "Why would they plop down generic medieval European country in Eorzea? (Ishgard)"

Not just fantasy Japan, if we dropped fantasy China or fantasy Asian whatever, would you really be able to tell the "real life" from the fantasy?

Garo gear comes from MGP, too, the downside there being it's undyeable.
