Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood |OT| Y'all Need to Calm Down

These days, what's the real difference between grinding FATEs/PoTD/PvP vs using a jump potion? Either way you're probably not going to really understand your job very well. And a lot of the complaints here seem to be grounded in "not knowing the fights," and well if you start today then you're not going to know those old fights regardless.

I'm probably in the minority but I use PotD to learn new classes. I start at floor 1 and let it introduce each new skill to me and from grinding so much I usually figure out a decent rotation and understanding of the class. (its also nice to use to setup the hotbars prior to hitting level cap in the real game) Of course, most probably just spam their one fast attack skill though all the way through...

100% agreed on the last statement. People need to be a bit more patient and maybe help explaining some mechanics instead of macro'n in chat their "lol mechanics" stupid shit instead of explaining. Vets can't expect noobs to have watched a video for their first experience at content with dungeons.

I've been having a grand time with the expansion so far. I did the first trial yesterday and I have to say that was a great fight. I was expecting a walkover for some reason but he's not really. Took a couple of tries in DF with different groups but finally loaded in with a team that knew what was what and beat it one time.

It's gonna happen now that they're allowing people to skip an entire expansion's worth of carefully introduced and consolidated mechanics and tells. The boss is super easy but we also had a wipe because people stood in things that were ultra forgiving to move out of, I don't think I got hit by a single thing aside from the necessary collapse marker.

What is the most fun tank to play and which is the best? For leveling and dungeons. I just resubbed for the first time in years.

From the sound of things right now:
PLD < WAR < DRK

PLD just got some really nice enhancements, WAR is still great, but less self healy, and DRK got sort of shafted TBH.

What's the best way to learn to not be bad at this game? I'm sort of new to MMOs and feeling a little overwhelmed with what sort of skill rotations to use and situations to look out for. I'm a WHM still working on breezy base game content right now for what it's worth

I have to say that I am really enjoying this expansion and I haven't even played any of the Stormblood content yet. I'm mostly just leveling Samurai and playing catch up but they have made some good strides since I last played.

It's so nostalgiac to see everyone playing again after spending nearly a year away from the game. My last visit back to the game during a free login period in the middle of a content drought felt kind of alien.

I started about two months ago and leveled a Warrior to about lv54 - found that at low levels the Overpower was hilariously more fun to use than Flash, and the big-ass axe aesthetic won me over.

Now I'm leveling Paladin and Dark Knight too, so they're all pretty great if you like tanking. I found Warrior the best for main story quests since the damage output was the best, but the sword-and-board look and feel is classic too.

It amazes me a bit how much Xp you get in PVP mode. I reached Level 67 now and with 750k-780k per PVP round, I only need around 12 rounds and I would be level 68. Still sounds much but it could be the fastest way at the moment.

I died in the ruby sea last night thanks to servers dying. I finally figured out how to get back to the ruby sea. However, I cant figure out how to get back to where i left off in the portion of East Orthard Coastline. I no longer see group of npc that teleported you initially for that quest.

Swim?

If I'm in Base game content on pc, but have all the expansions, can I play on ps4 with just realm reborn installed with the same character? Having trouble finding solid info on what's possible lol.

Is it only worth it to PvP at high 60s for XP?

This problem has always existed, it just might become slightly more pronounced with the jump potions. Leveling a job to 60 via FATEs, POTD, etc. do not teach people how to do mechanics or play their classes well, some people just do not flat out care about playing their classes well, or doing well, and jump potions won't change that significantly other than getting people to that point sooner.

So assuming that I want to take Bard from 60 up to 67 or 68 with nothing but PvP alone, how many hours am I looking at here?

You can use the same character on PS4, but you need to buy the expansions on PS4 too to access them.

Edit: I think HW comes included in SB.

How? Currently maining DRK / leveling it so I'm curious.
The class got a lot of intrinsic tools taken from it (Blood Price got nerfed, no more parry low blow/reprisal mechanic, our 500 potency dot scourge got completely removed) and a lot of the shiny new tools that are very important to it's new playstyle are locked behind level 60-70. On top of that the new abilities aren't incredibly impressive so far and the addition of the blood gauge makes meter management even harder.

If you have ARR on both PS4 and PC, you can play with the same character as long as you connected your account to both versions.

However, you have to buy the expansions for each. It doesn't share between the two...

Quick story question,
just beat Thornmarch Hard and the Scions moved to the new HQ how far am I from HW content?

https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/7th_Astral_Era_Quests

Thornmarch Hard is for the quest: You Have Selected Regicide
You've completed 242 quests in the base game and are now working on the pre-HW patch content

For the pre-HW patch content you are 16 out of 102 quests on your way to Heavensward!

Congrats!

Edit: please note that I'm listing your progress from Thornmarch Hard instead of when you get to the new HQ because I don't remember exactly which quest unlocks the new HQ

Haven't been able to play today. It's been fine for the past 3 days, but earlier today, the server ( Odin EU ) was lagging and dropping people every minute with 90k errors. And now it's even worse, after a 1200 queue, i get a connection lost error while loading into the game, and it's back to the 1200 ( and growing ) queue.

Man they really fucked over SMN/SCH

What I'm hearing is that SCH and DRK got hit pretty hard, which is unfortunate since those are the two classes I leveled after my WAR. I think for SB, I'm gonna try and run a WAR/AST/RMG combo, though it might be worth trying out Paladin to see how I like it and I'm still on the fence over leveling SAM as a second main DPS.

It's not total doom and gloom with SMN (dunno about SCH), but the changes are like someone clearly started a project too late to meet a deadline and hoped that an entertaining thesis (in this case, "you can summon Bahamut guyz!!") would be sufficient to carry it, when it does not.

Bowmage was not a good idea IMO, but at least there I can see that they had a logic to things and tried to follow through, even if it ended in failure.

With SMN, I am having issues trying to follow the logic in some circumstances. AoE nerfs are one thing, but they ended up taking out skills to remove bloat and up accessibility only to often make things worse (the price of fat fingering an aetherflow results in a critical loss of ability to even timely perform your job's purpose; an untimely death just carried layers and layers of punishment not seen in any other job in a similar situation). In trying to ease the play, they not only made it so where you have to do a lot to even be competent, but playing optimally is rewarded with even more boring play (Ruin Bois)

Feel kinda forced to buy the jump potion starting out on a new account as DPS. The wait times for dungeons required for MSQ are really long and makes it difficult to level from scratch. Might just come back to it at a later point.
