Is he? Honest question; didn't know he had a show until this week. Checked out his YouTube channel and he's not exactly killing it with the views.

100k-500k views per day for ballerstatus gossip seems like a lot to me. He's also approaching 2m subs across all his channels.

I guess he does upload quite a bit; but people watch and forget it seems. Go back in his videos and hardly any of them are any higher than the videos posted in the last day.

It's been a couple months since DAMN.'s release...do you guys think it's overrated? It's a 96 on metacritic, the same score as To Pimp a Butterfly his magnum opus. Now following up TPAB was always going to be difficult, but I think he dropped the ball a little bit with this album. I like it a lot, there are a lot of good tracks on here....but I think for an album that was politically charged to Damn...is just kind of disappointing especially for recent political events. I would also say GCMC is even a better album.

I think the media oversold it, and the fact that at one point it was the highest rated album on metacritic, speaks to that. However this isn't about my thoughts, this is about yours...what do you think?

So Kendrick's feature is going to be bad.
Typical.
It'll be really hard to be worse than that Mask Off remix but I sure he'll find a way.

DAMN is the best of Kendrick with songs like DANA, XXX, Fear, and Duckworth. It's also the worst with songs like Loyalty, God, and Love.

It's hard to compare it to his other work tbh.

Kendrick is a media darling on the most powerful record label. His career is basically inflated by white people on a continuous loop telling you how great he is. Nevermind no one can name a quotable line from most of his songs or albums.

I thought DAMN had some really good songs. It also has songs that sound like bad attempts at radio, or other people's styles. It's a more commercial album yet no reviews discussed it as such.

It's his best album but that's not saying much.

I honestly don't think metacritic scores matter when it comes to an album's reception. Music reviews tend to be not as taken seriously as videogame reviews(and thank god for that).

It is disappointing. Some good tracks mixed in with some corny shit with no real lasting impact. It's not outright bad or anything like that, just not great.

A 96 on Metacritic? Yeah....if you go by that metric, definitely overrated.

But seriously, I don't think people are considering it a modern Hip-Hop classic like his last two albums. So no.

Vince Staples is top 3 hip-hop interviews all time. I don't even know what the rest of that list looks like, but dude's stream of consciousness is hilarious.

Nope

It's his second best album after TPAB, no bad songs imo, but there isn't a song as powerful as u on the album but I didn't expect one. The album had a different message, a message that Kenny wanted to present that still worked.

TPAB>>DAMN>S.80=GKMC

The songs that I initially didn't like have grown on me crazy like GOD and XXX. LOYALTY and LOVE are the only stinkers.

DAMN. is more universally praised than TPAB. Online at least, a lot of the audience that were introduced to Kendrick from GKMC that were left disappointed by TPAB's lack of bangers love his latest LP and it still got the highest praises from the music critics.

Anyway, looks like Kendrick gave Vince a weedplate feature as per usual lol. Laughing to the bank like aaaahhhhaaaaa

Ugh, that impression of Kendricks feature is exactly what I didnt want to hear.
Yeah basically. As a huge Kendrick fan that sounds like another weak feature. Only features I've really liked by him the last two years are Wat's Wrong and Really Doe.

Uh I think metacritic is pretty pointless. It won't have as sweeping an impact as TPAB or GKMC surely. I would still say it's the best album of the year and his third best release. Can't say I really wanted anything else from his third album.

Defintely didn't need more TPAB. I would like a few more one off Kendrick tracks. Miss when he did that between releases. The Heart Pt. 4 is so fire.
Travis Scott should be receiving the praise Kendrick gets.
Lol 🌞🌞🌝🌝

Kendrick Lamar backlash in 2017 is not something I would have expected. The dude has a flawless album track record.

but some horrible features. i'm pretty bummed that he is on this Vince Staples album to ruin another song. could have got Q instead for a classic Cali rap track.

oh well, at least vince will be on his album prolly.

I like more songs on Damn then TPAB.

TPAB is like Blonde to me. Most people seem to rave about it simply because they think they should. It's good. Magnum Opus and best album in years is fucking hyoerbole at its highest.

DAMN definitely has flashes of brilliance, but too many missteps for me to really consider it quite on the level of TPAB and GKMC personally.

The most interesting aspect of DAMN for me is its true crisis of religious faith. Kendrick almost seems like he's flirting with some agnostic viewpoints of God on Damn. Throughout the album the listener finds Kendrick trying to jump through hurdles to reconcile how his omniscient/omnipotent God lets so many of "his" people suffer. Of course, his faith isn't so easily broken and kind of settles at this Old Testament like viewpoint of suffering being a test of one's dedication to God but there are enough examples where he truly seems like he's had enough so much that by the end of the album when he introduces the last track with the line "God's one funny motherfucker" I question rather he's a fan of His antics. I could see Kendrick taking up a more deist outlook on things in his next album.

TPAB is the more powerful album because of the time in which it was made, it's black empowering creeds, and its homage to black pioneered music genres throughout history. It's layers were all meticulously put together and its message seemed much less fractured.

I actually think DAMN is Kendricks most consistent album but it doesn't have as many great tracks and interesting ideas as TPAB or GKMC. It feels like a smaller project

This right here is my point.

Blonde is fucking boring as all hell. Channel orange was great. But Blonde? I listen to the album a couple times because everyone was cumming their pants about it. Nothing memorable or standout whatsoever. It sounded like a whole Cd of Intros and never goes anywhere in my opinion.

I've yet to hear anyone tell me what's good about it that makes sense. All people say is how good an album it is but have no idea why.

Give me your standout tracks, the high points, the reason someone would listen to this and then constantly say how amazing an album it is.

Not saying everyone likes it for the sake of saying they like it, or you necessarily. Just anyone I speak to about it has nothing to say about the album but how great it is and how everyone loves it.

Seems to me people like it because they feel like they should based on others opinions.

I listen to Blonde regularly. I wouldn't be forcing myself on doing so based on others opinions lol. That's ridiculous that you would assume something like that just because a project didn't click with you.

I like Blonde because it feels like a Palo Alto high school indie movie that feels nostalgic and has tracks that I can listen almost anytime and always feel right. To put it simple.

I don't base a damn thing off of other people's opinions. When Endless came out I was happy, it was good, but not better than Channel Orange. Had a nice sound, UNITY was great, and I was fine. Then Blonde dropped. I did my standard procedure of listening to it three times and thought to myself, this is equal to Channel Orange. Nice production, no bad songs anywhere, overall a really good album, but not better than CO. Then I listened to Channel Orange and Blonde back to back.

Channel Orange's best song to me is Pyramids or Pink Matter. Two fantastic songs, Blonde's best song is Pink + White or Nights and I like those about the same as Pyramids and Pink Matter. I kept listening to the album and every time I thought it was better than the last eventually deciding that it was better than Channel Orange. Not because the internet told me to, but because I do what I normally do when I listen to some good shit. I love it for it's production quality, for the song quality, for the interlude with his mom telling him not to do drugs, for how good Nikes, Nights, Godspeed, the entire damn album is. It was number 1 or 2 in my top of 2016 because I can keep listening to it and not feel like it drags. Never get fed up with one song.

I can't care about how other people think about music I like or don't like.
