I mean, again, all polling indicates that most GOP voters don't even want this.

They did during the election but are now finally realizing they don't.

And they only didn't want it back then because they're peabrained racists who were going to hate everything a man with browner skin then them did

I'm a bit confused. Before I left for work tonight, it seemed like this would not actually pass. Did something change?

No, not really. A few GOP Senators came out and said the couldn't support bill. Not sure why but people took that to mean they weren't going to vote for it. Some token change will be made and then they will come home.

Well that sucks for them I guess. You vote for someone that represents your views, you voted for the guy/gal who said they were going to repeal/replace the ACA. Guess what you don't get to ask them not to do it when it comes time to craft a bill.

I'm pretty sure if this passes, it'll be a few years before it takes affect. By then, the Democrats will get the blame if they were the ones in power, thus allowing Republicans to run things again.

The ACA had a delayed implementation too and that didn't save the Democrats in 2010

If a change is made they'll have to rescore it right?

If you are looking for a silver lining to AHCA (if it passes) there is one. It's slight, but it is there.

This will absolutely destroy red states. AHCA shifts much of the responsibility of health care to the states (making up the Medicaid gap, choosing whether or not to punish those with pre-existing conditions, etc.). State lawmakers that have been able to point to Washington for any pain their constituents feel will have to own this. It may be enough to shatter some red state R majorities. Crucially important as focusing on the states this last decade -- especially 2010 census year -- was a major reason for Trump. State-level Rs taking a hit pre-2020 means more D-favorable (even if neutral -- as it SHOULD be -- it'll be D-favorable) districts. That will help ensure a blue wave at the federal level.

The other way this will destroy red states is that we'll see a migration of people from red to blue states. Sadly, many of the most affected won't be able to move as it is expensive. It'll be the young, the middle-class, etc. This'll devastate the tax base of red states. Companies relocating may shun red states. It'll be a net gain for blue states -- more tax revenue to fund Medicaid, etc. And, in time, it'll be an electoral vote gain for blue states, many of which have been losing EVs.

Again, it's a slight silver lining in all of this. It'll take a decade or more and countless people will suffer (needlessly!) due to this. A damn shame, all around. =(

And then Republicans will point out that the Democrats are the reasons they are poor and dying, and people will believe them because FOX News said so (and thus all their friends said so), and Republicans will still win.

You can't assume negative consequences will change voting behavior.

And nothing in the bill will really stop the increasing prices/rates or the hospitals closing.

Shit bad no matter what but this will make healthcare all more important of an issue.

To get technical, they wanted something better than Obamacare, and were promised something not only better, but more universal and cheaper ta boot.

And as in so many cases they started paying to the realities inherent in getting what they wanted after they voted.

This is a massively unpopular bill, and those pushing for it behind closed doors know that.

Republicans don't hide how greedy they are, poor republicans still keep voting for this shit so they clearly want it

They're not getting a free pass from me. Idgaf about approval numbers, that means nothing when you keep putting these people in power and spoiler, they'll win 2018 nd beyond as well.

eh, ruling party tends to get hit with a Diamond Cutter in midterms anyways, we're in really uncharted territory right now though

Here's hoping this reduces my employer offered plan prices - or at least slows the rate in which they have been increasing.
If that happens I'll vote for the guy. If that doesn't happen then I'll feel robbed.

Single payer is the endgame but anything that reduces my burden in the meantime is a-ok.

Employer offered health plans have nothing to do with this. You are paying out the butt for you insurance because your employer is a cheapskate and doesn't want to pay fully to cover you with the best plans.

Republicans are pigfuckers. They will stop at nothing to give the rich tax cuts. Selling our country out to Russia, destroying the planet, killing Americans. Doesn't matter.

It's crazy how so few understand how employer coverage works. Although, with this bill, coverage could get worse because they could pair down coverage to whatever minimums the law requires.

Yup. Looking at all the white loliberal men who thought Hillary wasn't worth it. ALL of you.

This is such a garbage argument that gets us no where. You point to people that didn't want when Hillary when the argument could just as easily be made that they warned you Hillary was a terrible choice for nomination in the first place. In the end it is always on the candidate to win peoples vote. Keep dismissing peoples feelings and you will keep losing elections.

Can someone explain this diablos991 character to me?

He pops into these threads to post what amounts to drive-by, as he ignores everyone who even begins to question him or point out the absurdity in his post.

Then he posts again in the thread, pretending that he never made the original post, still ignoring people. And I've seen this happen multiple times over the past... forever, pretty much.

They said they wanted to wait for it, but I don't think there is anything requiring them to wait.

I'd like to try and get a bead on McConnell about this stuff

If he waits, I don't think he actually wants it to pass and we're can kicking
If he tries to force it, we're in real trouble

He's a fucking nonce who gets banned constantly for his shit but he's just like Medusa so every time you chop off his head 5 more pop up and they all merge to form an idiot

The silver lining with all this is that if it passes it pretty much guarantees single payer of some form in California.

Good for us Californians but sucks for everyone else.

Keep those purity test. See you in 2024. If there's still a country, that is.

Pretty much. These people will be on their death beds cursing Obama. The majority are irrevocably programmed and unsalvageable through anything short of having Count Trumpula appear to them in a dream and tell them Ruper Murdoch needs to die.

Your alternative was Trump. Nope.

"Hillary was bad"

OK but here's Trump

"But she was so bad what you were thinking"

OK but Trump was the alternative

"It's actually your fault for keeping me from voting for her because she was so bad"

Is she worse than Trump

"Stop deflecting"

It's sexism, doofuses. It started with the targeted campaign in the 90's and swept up the "liberal" dudes right along with it, because it's still REALLY. FUCKING. EASY. for them to believe that a woman is the source of all their problems.

He's a Trump fan, that's all there is to it.

I'm sorry, not everyone has the luxury to vote with their feelings all the time. Some of us are just trying to keep the country moving in the right direction. I know it sucks that it isn't happening at the lightning fast rate that you want. We got lucky with Obama, he was unicorn, that just happened to come along at the right time. Politics isn't like that, it is a once in a generation thing.

You vote with your feelings in the primary, that is what it is for. Both sides do it, the difference is Republicans come the fuck home in mass for the general.

We won't get all of the Rs to realize their mistake, but we don't need all of them. 10%, combined with Is (can't imagine them sticking with Trump and the Rs) and a definite demographic shift favorable to Ds (minority growth, less religious, etc.) will be enough. It'll take a decade or two, though. At 45 I just hope I live long enough to see it. =(

It seems to be an effective shtick. Thread got derailed after just 5 posts and hasn't recovered. I'm sure he's amused by the results.

The only purity test that happened in 2016 was "get in line and support Hillary OR ELSE" and that didn't go over very well with leftist liberals who can think for themselves.
Are you happy with millions of people losing their health insurance? Is that getting us closer to Bernie's utopia?

He's a Trump fan, that's all there is to it.

That isn't the problem, the issue is he constantly drives by to troll and nothing happens. Be a Trump fan, but stick around and actually have a conversation. It's beyond BS that the answer to it is put him on ignore.

Yep, voted Bernie in the primary and once he was out showed up on election day gladly voting for Clinton.

Same. I voted for Obama/Bernie in primaries. Voted for Obama/Clinton in the general, its called being a democrat and understanding what is at stake.

But Hillary won the primaries. It was pretty much over in March. At that point, the most logical thing to do was get behind her given the alternative was Trump. A split Dem base meant Trump got in.

So while they may be thinking for themselves. They're doing it from a powerless position that makes their thinking just thoughts with no possibility of turning that into action.

Here's MY political hot take.

Y'all wanna know why you guys aren't winning? One simple word.

Disorganization.

There's barely any sort of unity here whatsoever. Yeah, you guys all hate Trump and Republicans together but I'm seeing a lot more infighting and time-wasting than actually addressing the issue and doing everything possible.

I mean shit. Why do you people bother responding and dogpiling on diablos? He doesn't care, and you know what? Neither should you! He made his choice, he's sticking to it, move on and get back on track with what's actually important here!

We constantly bring him and these kinds of people up and how meaningless it is trying to change their minds. Why do we still waste time talking about it?

Then we have defeatists here arguing with the rest of us and constantly raining on everyone's parade and throwing nightmare scenario after nightmare scenario, trying to convince others that everything people here do is meaningless, and more time and effort is wasted on them! And I'm as guilty of this as ever!

This whole situation regarding our side is a mess. This isn't unity. It's chaos.

People need to set all this petty squabbling aside and crank up the resistance efforts and energy here to full throttle. And yes I know most of you are doing everything you can, but it's clearly not enough when I walk into any Trump thread and I'm seeing all of the above brought up yet again.

GAF and Democrats are disorganized, through and through.

So if you guys want some real change, maybe the first thing we can do is work to change that.

All who support this are deplorables, simple as that, I don't care who they are. People need to focus on calling their senators, making this issue heard by the masses, and keep this in the eyes of the public as much as possible. Ignore the selfish Deplorable people and get to work!

Know what the fun part about "thinking for yourself" is? You can still make shit decisions.

Are you happy with millions of people losing their health insurance? Is that getting us closer to Bernie's utopia?

The question you should be asking yourself is if you are happy that you and your faction so zealously supported such a clearly disastrous candidate who everyone warned you was a bad candidate that nobody liked which found a way to lose to Donald Trump when a better one was available?

This famous line from FF Tactics is still the only response I have for you:
