It's quite macabre to see how Americans just let this happen. Like watching a person dying in slow-mo.
Nah the protests were packed. Tired of wherever-the-fucks-your-fromers coming into these threads and shitting on Americans. Your country is probably going through some silly shit as well.

Here's hoping this reduces my employer offered plan prices - or at least slows the rate in which they have been increasing.
If that happens I'll vote for the guy. If that doesn't happen then I'll feel robbed.

Single payer is the endgame but anything that reduces my burden in the meantime is a-ok.

I just read this and I have one thing to tell you. You are one insensitive POS. If you were really happy about saving yourself a couple of bucks should have kept it to yourself.

In my experience 90% of America shitting comes from Americans.

Am I the only one who think the American people will not take this peacefully?

I imagine protests, riots, and likely repeats of that shooter from last week. It may not happen overnight, but when people lose all they have left, they have nothing left to lose...

Is this one way we see a precariat revolt?

This is literally the worst thing they could do both short and long-term. The AARP has not weighed in with its full power yet either. The rage and resentment alone could sink the Republicans in 2018 and 2020.

I sincerely hope that violent actions do not occur as a result of this. Take out all of your anger at the ballot box by voting enough Republicans out of office to at the very least enable the Democrats to obtain enough seats to impeach Trump and end this administration.

We haven't hit six months into this person's term that resides in President Obama's office and there's a legit chance 23 million people lose health insurance.

Protests don't do shit.

It's time to literally burn their houses down.

I'll be honest for a long time I was against this kind of talk but I'm getting closer and closer to believing protesting is a waste and we a bigger step. We can get groups together but none of these movements are making the change we need right now. We win small victories but look what happens. We get people yelling and going to each of our senators about healthcare so they decide to hide it from us and rush it. The republicans believe "it's better to ask forgiveness then say can we fuck you". Worst part is the delayed effects show up 3 years from now.... when the next guy shows up.

At this point we need something more, I'm not saying violence but protesting doesn't work when they know all we are gonna do is get in a large group and nothing more. Also yes voting is the most important, but there's cheating going on with russia and literally the entire system is stacked against us intentionally so we can't have real representation.

Especially when people lives are literally on the line. He's terrorizing his own country at this point.

I understand the sentiment...but the system is rigged so that as many people as possible in fact can't get out to vote. It's really not so easy to say this things won't work and this other way will work better.

I worry violence is increasingly looking like an answer, especially when what we call civility breaks down.

People will be losing their only lifeline to medicine and treatment to their health and eventually, their jobs, careers, the possibility of paying for an education, or a home, or a car. All of the ideals of the American Dream are being dissected from people en masse.

Something must give way here. The question of course is like playing a game of Jenga: which pillar is the one that makes the whole thing drop? I've often wondered about it being technological precarity and climate change, which even government officials asserted, but I never once considered we'd seriously be at a point to where we are literally going back in time on everything that represents the modernity of a struggling first-world nation in regards to human wellbeing.

If the AHCA passes, I think a deep question needs to be asked: is America really a society that will survive the 21st century without massive swaths of violence or a degradation in status?

23 million people are going to lose insurance. Instead of being annoyed by me or whoever, all you guys better be political active and invest every single second to push the republicans out. Protesting is fine and all, but republicans still get their seats time and time again.

Except that's not what happens. Protestors, in my experience, are some of the most politically activated folks around and do not just bunny hop from show to show and do nothing in the downtime. Frankly while you figure out what more we can do later, protestors are doing the most they can at this moment.

EDIT:

Um. Don't talk down to me with this bullshit. I can be annoyed at your silly fucking higher than thou posts AND be active against the administration. Funny how that works?

You all have been making noise. It's pointless until everyone makes noise. That way no one will cry that you're blocking traffic and keeping good working people from their jobs.

When this goes through, hopefully morons celebrating will soon realize they've voted against themselves yet again, and join the revolt that the USA desperately needs.

Morons need to put their hands in the fire to realize it's bad for them.

Silver lining.

I didn't know 17% was a majority. Thanks.

They still voted for the people who put them there, and even if they don't like the policy they will still defend the people. This is the problem, this is why we are so fucked right now. Obama could order a hotdog and ask for spicy mustard and he's a monster, a republican could kill half the country and he would still get votes.

I want to believe you so badly, and most of the shit I can say is purely anecdotal but I do not have the faith that our government gives the slightest of shit or that those people will get the chance to make the change they need to. The people are who protesting are not the people that usually get elected because they do not have the money nor the influence. What I'm saying isn't a knock against those people, hell I'm one of those people. But I'm cynical, I'm mad as hell and certainly am not defeatist because I want to reclaim my country but I don't believe the methods we are doing or have right now are working and I don't know what could either.

Wasn't this one of his main campaign points?
As a european I know and value universal healthcare, but this is what the US wanted. Not voting is no excuse.

Exactly. People want this. I say let them have it. Only because all Republicans are children that need to learn things the hard way before changing their minds.
I'd prefer it to go through so we hAve a educated and healthy electorate going forward. Otherwise our government is a joke. Why are people paying taxes for this sham, if nothing is learned.

Sentence a man to death by doing this, and certain men will act violently. I don't think these representatives have prepared for the possibility of that. This is going to cause more harm than they think, and I fear what kind of homegrown terrorism will rise.

My senator doesn't care what we tell him. When you gerrymander and you have people voting party lines because they know nothing more, they have no fear of losing their seat. They don't need to listen to me, when they'll have the votes to win. I could tell people everything they'll be losing around here and they would still find a way to blame democrats...

There are a few key words in his post that you seem to have missed
Even with the greatest gerrymandering genius in the world, or the most favorable electoral college map ever, there is no universe where someone with a 17% approval rating wins a general presidential election/congressional majority/whatever election you'd like to map this example to. So whatever point you're trying to crawl towards is pretty moot. Meanwhile, there are plenty of articles about how this bill is wrecking Trump's numbers, which is why it's being done in secret in the first place. So you could try reading them. Or, don't, and just stop posting. Bye.

Some people in this thread scare me. The "big three" western European nations, France, UK, and Germany, have all voted to be conservative and their societies haven't collapsed yet. Also, your vote still works. As I recall, Obama won four years ago.

If you really want to destroy the country in a flame deluge and kill people because we gave some tax breaks to some rich people... actually, please don't.

You can't gerrymander a Senate seat

He said an electoral majority voted for this. He's correct.

I wouldn't be surprised if this forum gets investigated at some point if posts like this keep being made. Especially after a real human being actually did shoot members of congress only days ago.

Elections have consequences. It wasn't even 10 years ago when Democrats controlled all branches of government and you're acting like you're the oppressed people of fucking Tibet.

It's actually wrecking his numbers.

Merkel, Macron, and May are all fiscally conservative, what am I missing? Germany was the one responsible for pushing austerity so hard back in 2008 all across Europe. Macron just replaced a socialist president and promises tax cuts and less spending. May is a true believer conservative who wants to gut the government.

Read posts before you reply to them or keep quiet.

As if there is some kudos to be had by claiming you didn't vote for this? As Americans, we are all in the same bed. We are a democracy. We voted for this as a nation. Otherwise, is democracy just functioning when you agree fully?

This is the shitty end of it. I must say. But this needs to be a learning lesson. If it's not.. as I've said earlier.. there is no point to our government.

What does your senator have to do with gerrymandering?

When you threaten lives what exactly do you expect? You think people are just going to sit by and be okay with losing family members and friends because we need bigger tax breaks for the rich?
