The Foreigner (Jackie Chan, Pierce Brosnan) - Official Trailer

Didn't he hate doing those movies, and only did those American films to film his more serious chinese filmography?

Not sure if that was just bullshit rumors or actually based on actual testimony.
I didn't know it was a rumor but yeah I remember something about him wanting to do more serious movies.

First I've heard of this one, but definitely interested. A fan of both Jackie Chan and Pierce Brosnan, and it's rare to see the former in more serious roles.

I bet it's Roose Bolton who planted the bomb on behalf of a shadowy government agency to bring down Brosnan and in the end Brosnan and Chan join forces.

Piers Brosnan reminds me of Gerry Adams in this haha

Who are the bad guys here? IRA-alikes?

Looks to be ex-IRA, or modern offshoots (they still do exist), since the setting is explicitly modern, and well, there's this freeze frame:

So where the original novel was at the tail end of the Troubles, this looks to take the angle of its legacy, with former militants now in offices of political power.

Still cautious about the material, but I must admit it has my interest after the trailer.

Just watched the trailer, looks like it could be a fun ride. As a Norn Irishman I'm not 100% sold on James Bonds accent, it's serviceable but to me it sounds like someone faking an accent (which I know he is), sorry for that terrible explanation. Still better than 90% of Irish accents on TV/movies.

The timing of this is a little....sensitive in terms of both the terrorist attack and the Northern Ireland stuff.

Looks good though.

Vied for a tag related to cocks, so here it is.
I'm going to take it on trust that Brosnan can pull off a convincing Irish accent. Just a gut feeling.

I'll watch this one.

Lol

Well, TIL. Maybe I'm too used to his English accent, it sounded off to me.

EDIT: Okay, now in my defense in interviews his normal speaking voice is not full on irish.

Sold pretty fucking hard on this. Love Chan, love Brosnan and enjoyed Casino Royale so even if it's not 'good' I'm sure to get enjoyment from it.

The description of the novel in the poster thread had me doubting. This does look pretty darn solid. I think I'll be able to look past a certain amount of orientalism or stereotypes if the action is as good as it looks. I've always liked it when Chan shows of his menacing side. It's rare, but there have always been glimpses of it here and there.

Also. He's 63 years old.

63.

I'm not sure how Jackie Chan is seen in China anymore. He used to be well connected politically, but in the last few years things have changed. He is hated in HK anymore for things he has said; he get hated on in Weibo for being government shill; his son got made an example of for having marijuana etc.
Oh wow, I had no idea. Will be interesting to see the reaction to the movie.

This looks super dumb.

Could be entertaining, I guess? lol. It's been ages since Jackie did anything decent.

I'm glad this is happening, but man did this happen way later than I thought it would.

I was thinking right after Goldeneye/World is Not Enough and Jackie Chan's First Strike/Rumble in the Bronx would have been the perfect time for these two to collaborate.

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
Girl survived in Taken though. Or was that another movie?

Taken wasn't about the daughter, it was about what the father did in the situation. Death Wish was the same way.

I'm down with Serious Antihero Jackie.

Weird trailer note though: so he's playing a British national who's Vietnamese?
