Apparently I missed this whole trading card stuff. Can someone explain me what this is and why so many are talking about them?

There's an FAQ here. Generally speaking, people care more about selling them, however sale cards tend to be sought after as they expire* and the sale badges can no longer be crafted once that happens.

* The 2013 Summer Sale cards didn't expire and can still be bought/sold on the market.

I'll be done with Clannad soon. Any other notable VN's on Steam I should consider getting from the sale? Are Clannad Side Stories or Tomoya After worth it?

Open for any other visual novel recommendations too. Not a huge fan of horror. Already played Steins;gate, VA-11 Hall-A, Danganronpa, Zero Escape (guess the latter three don't strictly speaking count)

Planetarian is short, but a must-play.

The House in Fata Morgana. Without question.

So I got this reply from Steam regarding an issue I was having..
"Hi,

Steam Cloud solely provides inter-computer synchronization and does not provide backups of data stored in the Cloud.

Steam support is unable to restore your libraries categories. We apologize for the inconvenience.

So what DOES steam cloud do? Does it not backup save games, so even if I do reformat my hard drive I could reinstall the game and still have my saves no?

It does store saves but I don't think category data is stored in the cloud so I can see why they couldn't fix your problem.

It does store the save games in the cloud, but the library-categories are stored locally for the client somewhere.
But note that not every game uses Steam Cloud.

What he means is that he's unable to retrieve previous versions of files. Categories are saved to the cloud upon exit:

saving roaming config store to 'sharedconfig.vdf'
roaming config store 2 saved successfully

...but if that file is overwritten with a corrupt or otherwise undesired version, then you're SOL unless you have your own backup (Steam\userdata\[user ID]\7\remote\sharedconfig.vdf).

In addition to what other people have said, there is a crucial difference between backups and synchronization. If you install Steam on a new computer, you can retrieve all the saved games you had in the cloud. If you wipe your hard drive and reinstall Steam, you can retrieve all the saved games you had in the cloud.

If you tell Steam to DELETE a saved game explicitly, however, Steam Cloud will dutifully remove that save from cloud storage as well, because it's just a synchronization service designed to store your current state, and not any previous states. A backup service would let you go back in and recover a deleted save; a synchronization service would not.

EDIT: beaten so bad

Question- if i email a gift to myself can i still use its code to make a modbot giveaway?

Only gifts purchased prior to the recent changes can be sent via e-mail, so yes. You can't purchase a new gift and send it via e-mail, and even if you were to send it to an alt account and pluck the redemption link from the notification e-mail, it wouldn't work for any other account.

The music in Hollow Knight and Ori is so good! Last night in Hollow Knight I got to this random place where the most intense organ music started playing and I just sat and listened for 5 minutes.

This one

So, Streets of Rogue is getting some positive buzz during the sale. Anyone played it? Is it recommended in it's early access state, or should one wait?

Thinking about buying one more game, and right now it feels like either that, or Just Cause 3.
Streets of Rogue is really good. I've made a couple of posts on it, but I'll just reiterate that it's a game that really gives you plenty of options to tackle levels as you want, stealthy or chaotic. It also has up to 4 player co-op.

That actually got me interested in the game.:D So it is good for reals?
Gurumin is pretty charming. It's just a very long game if you're trying to perfect all of the levels like I was. D: You'll definitely sink in a bunch of hours into it.

Yay, I already finished one of my 23 Sale Games. I almost feeld bad for paying only 2,79€ for Dust: An Elysian Tail. Great game. Should have played it earlier.

Thinking about The Legend of Dark Witch and Paraoh Rebirth now to reach my personal soft cap (100€). They look fun.

Anyone knows what happened to the Steam overhaul that was rumoured to launch (in beta) during the sale?

Just so there's no misunderstanding, I was told that Valve was toying with the idea of tying the beta into the Summer Sale in some way, which didn't necessarily point to a launch during or even shortly after the sale. It's possible that the sticker book is Valve's way of shortlisting people and those who complete it will get first-wave access, especially since the tasks that earn you sticker packs all relate to engaging with Steam's various features. Feedback is going to be important, so it would make sense to initially single out those who went out of their way to earn all of the stickers.

Alright. Thanks for the info. That sounds plausible.

How do you tell Steam to delete a saved game from the cloud? I tried several ways a while ago in order to clean up my bloated Witcher 3 save, but it ended up either redownloading or merging my local- and cloud saves.

Lets hope. I want access to that beta so bad.

Yeah, it sucks that steam has no integrated management for cloud.

https://github.com/GMMan/SteamCloudFileManagerLite

I think also deleting files while game is running also works. (ie. launch game, delete files, close game and empty state gets synced)

Besides the quests, how else you get stickers?

You don't. You can't miss quests or any sticker, so you can do everything on last day if you wish.

Don't you hate when developers/publishers dont release a sequel/prequel on a platform. (PC)

In this case I bought Fable Anniversary and will buy Fable 3 on Amazon but....there is no Fable 2 on PC anywhere.

Is it normal to have a sluggish scrolling in the Steam store? I swear the damn thing feels like I'm getting 12fps in a game or something.
