Methot has been carried by Karlsson for years. whatever they paid I'm sure it was too much
Hes still better than the garbage they have.

They seemed very headstrong about changing them too, I think they genuinely believed there were fans out there who liked them. I would have preferred a more modern twist while retaining the mountain borders on the bottom, but there are fine
Its too bad too. The Avs have an interesting color scheme but their jerseys are never quite as nice as they could be.

Agreed the colors combination is great, but when both burgundy and blue are too prevalent they clash. I think the alternates balanced the colors rather well, the secondary color was never overbearing.

Compare that to our home jersey which has too much blue on the sleeves, stripes or a shoulder yoke would look better.

Methot looks like a serious underpay based on what hockey people in general think of Methot but it's actually a fair price based for what the player actually is - a "top pair" guy mostly be the accident of meshing well with an actual #1 D.

Actually Methot is kinda like Kris Russell in that he's overrated by media and the team to the same degree but perhaps for different reasons.

Yeah. Shoulder yoke and a stripe on the elbow would look way better. Theyre still a definite improvement over the previous ones.

The apron stripes should have been gone long ago. What a terrible idea.

I could see Melnyk cheap out and have the team keep the Edge template for the Sens jersey. But I didn't think the Avs were also so cheap as to keep their jerseys all through the 10 years.

I can only make sense of it from a financial standpoint as to why they kept those shitty jerseys. Like, they were too cheap to either hire a design team to come up with new Avs jerseys, or to go back to the old template in some way.

Doesn't it make more sense for an owner to make new jerseys so that fans go out and buy the new designs? Assuming tradition isn't part of the team's brand. Why would I buy a new jersey if they are the same? I know people will get jerseys with player X on it of course but as long as the design is the same it isn't that big of a push even if you have an ex player on the back.

Funny enough, I was just reading this on r/hockey. LeBrun said that the Avs owners don't care about the team and this is a comment on that thread.

Stan Kroenke (yes, that Stan Kroenke) owns the team, while his son, Josh, is the team President. Josh Kroenke has made it pretty clear that he doesn't get involved in the day-to-day operations of the Avalanche; he brought Sakic in to run the show with the title of GM (/hockey czar, whatever). Josh played D1 college basketball and has made it exceedingly clear that the Nuggets (of whom he is also team President) are his pet project.

So yes, while the pocketbooks are open, I don't know that Kroenkes have ever really cared about the team. Stan gets to do whatever the fuck he does to meddle with football/soccer side of things, Josh gets to live the dream and run the Nuggets, and the Avalanche, Rapids (MLS) and Mammoth (lacrosse) are just accessory pieces to the Kroenke Sports mega enterprise. So while Sakic bumbles around and plays the "patience" card, he doesn't really have to answer to anyone who might wonder what the fuck he's doing. This is also probably the primary reason why the Avalanche practice at a dump 30 minutes from the Pepsi Center, why they never deviated from the crappy unipron Edge jerseys (praise Adidas!) and why the team overall seems to be slow to react to pretty much every "trend" (be it the use of data/analytics in coaching/scouting, marketing, literally anything surrounding the team).

So yeah, you could say the owners don't really seem to care.

I follow both Price and his wife on Instagram, and on Instagram you can see what other people like, and I just saw this and it seemed like such a strange thing to like

What is the point in liking something like that? And surely she knows people can see it, see has her own lifestyle blog and does a lot of social media stuff....just really bizarre.

No its "parity" thats why the avs suck

If you think this is news to any avs fans you're sorely mistaken. Two things can be true.

edit: Shit I didn't even see you responded to my earlier thing. Here goes.

This post is just looool.

You think Chicago gets every call? Go actually watch their games instead of pissing your pants about it. Theyre always getting screwed on offside plays and goalie interference. Just look at the playoffs.

And its good that the top pick isnt guaranteed to the last place team. Teams tanking is embarrassing. Automatically giving the last place team #1 is like giving the kid in the group project who does no work an A. Fuck that shit.

You could have saved time writing this and just said "my team's front office is shit and cant figure out how to win when we cant trade for all the good players like before the salary cap"

If it means hockey is back im all for it.

1)
Did I say the hawks get every call? Cause if that's what you're angling at, I'm not really surprised at this point. Any time someone raises a point about the league being lenient or showing favoritism to the Hawks you jump all over it and try to reframe the conversation into something else entirely. The league plays favorites with several teams and when you're not a fan of those teams it's rather obvious. And it's not even just about calls. Take a look at the history of DOPS rulings and high market teams/star players. It's favoritism all the way down. Is it your duty as a Hawks fan to defend this or call people conspiracy theorists when they raise concerns about it? Like goddamn, you must be on payroll. I'm still betting you're Q himself at this rate.

2)
It's good that the top pick isn't garuanteed to the last place team, that we can agree on. However, that isn't what happened. The last place team(s) ALL got fucked out of a top pick this year. Please, do tell, how that creates parity in this league or is even remotely fair.

3)
You'll get zero arguments out of me on how terrible our ownership is and by proxy the front office. This is something I've said throughout the years of posting here. You've made zero revelations here, but again, you're trying to reframe any concerns that the rich do in fact get richer in this league into "shut up you whiny fucking babies". Cool stuff, expected, but cool.

edit edit: And posting this gave me serious dejavu. Speaking of dejavu, happy birthday.

Damn McPhee is a shit GM. That's all he got for Methot? Pretty sure Dorion would have given more than that.

He should've just taken Claesson at the draft.

All the Leaf fans who were pooh-poohing Hamonic are gonna be reeeal salty when they sign Girardi or Alzer instead
I would be nervous if either one of them were right handed instead of left, but nah

I do think Hunnywick is coming back though

Edit: oh fuck Girardi is right handed noooooooo

Some of his expansion draft choices were baffling. I don't think he's done a very good job so far. That said, Vegas had a pretty great entry draft.

I doubt Lou goes that route. If an upgrade can't be found, re-signing Polak would make a lot more sense than committing to Girardi.

Regarding Methot, he probably wanted to save face, because there's no way Dorion didn't offer more than what he got.

Not a great start tbh

LeBrun: Stars get Methot for much less than what Sens would've had to pay

McPhee trading Methot for pennies to spite the Sens is the most hilarious shit I've heard in a long time. Vegas is gonna be a total shit show.

It seems Geroge McDicks is playing favorites with some GMs while being a hard ass on some. It the only logical explanation for some of his shit expansion draft pick ups from some teams.

Sure sounds like the Jets will sign Elliott, or are at least a primary suitor.

That would be a good fit I think - I'd rather have a cheap 1A/1B guy for a few years to work with Hellebuyck than an older vet with term who would expect to be the starter. And Elliott seems to do his best when sharing the crease instead of starting 70% of the games.

Not giving up anything for a young backup also works best since the Jets have a goalie in Eric Comrie who seems to project as a better NHL starter, and he's only a couple of years away at most.

Mainly I think it's a good fit because Elliott doesn't have to be good, just average. If he's league average for 40 games that's a huge upgrade over Pavelec and Hutchinson, so if he wants to go to a team with low expectations here you go. :p

Completely off topic but I'm posting it here because I want more people to see it - a good friend's family friend passed away in his sleep a couple nights ago. He left behind three daughters. The family is poor and cannot pay for the funeral services. I am pretty sure the goal is set for the money it costs for cremation services. We're working on fundraising efforts on our end to help them out (in addition to this gofundme page that was set up) but again, I just wanted to share in case anyone here sees it and felt inclined to donate - https://www.gofundme.com/daniel-leals-memorial-services

Quick summary: Alzner tells Chaumont he's interested in signing with Habs, wants long term deal, talks with Caps essentially dead right now

Alzner+Weber pairing.

All that character and grit.

Ask Meta if he's worth even that much

He's an RHD with a ton of experience, which does have some inherent value. I could see him working out well in a place like Minny, where he would likely be used appropriately as a grinding 3rd pairing d-man with limited minutes.

Term seems more important to me than the actual dollar amount. Girardi's physical, shot-blocking style is finally catching up to him after years of being invulnerable, so there's a high probability of him falling apart quickly. I wouldn't want to be on the hook for him for any more than two years at a time max and probably only one year at a time after that.

good luck with Alzner -- looks like Radulov's money is going to Alzner! have fun with that ... whatever it takes for the Leafs not to sign him :)
