Brand confusion...

Course this is the same guy who had Smith and Tennant open to doing more Who stuff together and said no.

Tennant and Smith said they were willing yo do a joint season of Who after filming Day of the Doctor. Honesty it's hard to say how serious they were and the contract with Capaldi was likely signed and early plans were probably set for his season.

Listened to Blood Of The Daleks and yeah that's some good shit. Love Dalek in-fighting. And Lucie is basically Northern Rose, which is ace.

She starts that way

Where she ends up is... well, it's a really, REALLY good arc for her character.

I mean, Night of the Doctor flipped my shit when I found out it had actually happened. Hearing Eight namecheck Lucie just before his regeneration was a whole 'nother level.

Lucie (bleedin') Miller is the best.

While I loved the episode, Moffat's implication again that there may have been a female Doctor before is bizarre when we know how many regenerations he had and who they were.

You mean the talk with Bill on the rooftop? I got the sense he was referencing Time Lord's ability to regenerate into different genders in general, not that he himself had actually done so.

Although Moffat writing those words into the Doctor's mouth seemed more than a little disingenuous. Also fourth-wall breaking.

Could be a l'il callback to that 'which one of these three things is a lie' thing from the start of last series where one of the things suggested the Doctor had been female once or something.

You talking about the post-ep Q&A from Saturday? People were talking about it in here but this is the first interpretation of that session to arrive at "Bill's dead dead."

Or is it some other interview you're referencing.

I guarantee that Bill's not dead dead.
For a start, Mackie's voice can be heard in The Doctor Falls' trailer.

I don't know how much, or in what capacity, but we will be seeing Mackie as Pearl again.

I dunno, I like the idea that the Doctor has a vastly larger and more complicated history than we've seen over the course of the TV series.

If you want to be technical about it, The Brain of Morbius from the classic series showed a load of the Doctor's faces, including several from before Hartnell. If they wanted to retcon Hartnell as the first Doctor of a new regeneration cycle rather than the first one ever, I could buy it.

Yeah, I don't remember him saying that.

I always just chalked them up as Morbius's faces. That and Peter Davison refers to himself as the 4th regeneration (5th Doctor) and talks about having to give up his remaining 8 lives in Mawdryn Undead. So that kinda fixes Hartnell as the first. That and all the flashbacks during the 80s.

Then I remember who's writing the next two eps so who the fuck knows

I remember in some of the Extended Universe stuff, all those faces I guess was supposed to be the faces of The Other, who was like another form of The Doctor, I'm not sure how it works, honestly, it hurts my brain just thinking about it.

Fanwank mode engaged: When the Doctor talks about his childhood and any pre-Hartnell selves, he's referring to The Other.

Goddamnit.

It's interesting that we treat Time Lord incarnations as immutable when our own comparatively primitive technology allows us to change our gender, make substantial alterations to our appearance, etc. Would actually be odd if the Time Lords had nothing besides a limited-use emergency not-dying mechanism.

"Chronicles Of The Doctor", Netflix Exclusive:

Season 1 - Tennant & Smith star
Season 2 - Paul McGann stars

Id love for tennant and smith to show up again on an episode or two this next season, but i think its time for a new doctor as much as ive loved the past four of them, weve had 3 good seasons of capaldi (whose tied with smith as my favorites), im excited to see who fills the shoes next, i trust the bbc to make the right casting decision but i think a woman or black or indian doctor would be really awesome!

Easy fix - Hartnell on is from when he identifies as The Doctor. Just say there's stuff from before that where he wasn't The Doctor if need be.

I bet we'll one day get a story featuring the First Doctor but waaaaaay younger and before he became "the Doctor", but I doubt it'll be a distinct separate incarnation. That'd be too much.

But Young 1 should definitely be played by Cillian Murphy.

But then how do you explain Time Lords only having 13 regenerations which is why we had the Matt Smith freak out meaning that Hartnell must have been the first version.

I think the implication from Twelve's comment on the roof with Bill was not that there were any previous version before Hartnell, but only that he is so old he sincerely cannot remember if his Hartnell version as a young child was a girl or a boy.

Steven: Yeah that's it, .. Well shes a Cyberman from now on

Pearl: I'm going home now actually (it's a joke)

Steven: She's one of those in the (Next Time) Trailer, She's just killing people, That's the way it is sometimes

That's just the way Moffat talks about these things. It's his sense of comedy and avoiding spoiler talk. He's been doing the same thing for years: see all his during-season-interviews and monthly letter columns in DWM for instance. It's nothing new and he didn't confirm anything, he was joking around as usual. Like the guy above me said, she's even in the trailer.

She'll be back, I'm betting the farm on that one. Whether she survives the next episode is anyone's guess, but we'll get more scenes with Bill.

They were joking around.

Matt was relocating to America when he wrapped Who. Tennant had Broadchurch and it's US counterpart filming right around that time. It wasn't always clear they were going to get him for the 50th.

What exactly does missy's umbrella do?

Laser Umbrella
Tissue Compression Eliminator
That strange square device missy used last season

Something else?

What exactly does missy's umbrella do?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umbrella

An umbrella or parasol is a folding canopy supported by wooden or metal ribs, which is usually mounted on a wooden, metal, or plastic pole. It is designed to protect a person against rain or sunlight. The word "umbrella" typically refers to a device used for protection from rain. The word parasol usually refers to an item designed to protect from the sun. Often the difference is the material used for the canopy; some parasols are not waterproof. Umbrella canopies may be made of fabric or flexible plastic.

Time to go dark on this thread? Whenever spoilers hit there's always a perfunctory attempt to black bar things, but then all discussion inevitably reveals what the spoiler is anyway. Not sure I'll be able to avoid it for six months though.

Nardole is actually the regenerated Jenny. So is Missy. And the Doctor can't handle all this Jenny so he runs away to the Pole and regenerates because being a clone father is tough.

Sorry.

I accidentally read some spoilers for the finale so I think I know what this is without looking.
Given the they images that have floated around on twitter around before being removed due to being asked to be deleted, I think we're in for one hell of a good Christmas special.
Would rather not describe them here for fear of people accidentally seeing them tho, lol.

Looking at those finale press pics, I genuinely like how much they classic'd up Simm's Master. He never really did it for me because he never felt like the Master to me (although I do really like the actor in other stuff), but giving him the goatee, the black suit and especially that ridiculous elaborate old-school disguise was absolutely lovely. And luckily it wasn't as racist as some of his older disguises this time!

Even though I knew he was going to be in it, I had no idea until just before the reveal that it was him. I can only imagine what it would be like if the Sun/Mirror/Whoever it was didn't leak it ahead of time. I think you would be completely unable to see it coming since you're just focusing on all the Mondasian stuff, and waiting for the first complete Cyberman.

But yeah, looking forward to the next episode. I don't know how necessary it was to add the modern clunky Cybermen into the the mix, but we'll see how it plays out. The juxtaposition between old and new could be good I suppose, and especially interesting for people who aren't too in love with the old stuff (which will always be my problem).

As for that spoilery twitter link: I genuinely thought
the reveal was that it was young Sarah Jane at first, which makes little to no sense since I doubt they'll let another actress play her for quite some time, and there are plenty of other older actors still available. Obviously looking at it again it's Bill's curly hair and not SJ's straight hair, but I think the clothes threw me off. Also I was always expecting Bill to be there in some capacity I guess, so it didn't really cross my mind as a possible spoiler.
