So I tried about 30 times to take Lady Maria out and I just couldn't do it. Finally I swallowed my pride and summoned help for the first time. Two hunters came in and helped me wreck her. It was awesome, I was so sick of that fight and now I can move on.

Big thanks to all you helpers out there!

Just beat Mergo's Wet Nurse. Now is the moment of truth. Do I tackle the DLC or go ahead and complete the game? I hear the DLC is quite good, but there's the old backlog to think about.

If you beat the main game, you'll have to wait until you get back to Vicar Amelia on New Game + before you can access it again. It'll also be a hell of a lot harder too, and it's already the hardest part of the game for the most part.

Noted. I should have mentioned, if I don't play the DLC during NG, I probably won't play it at all.

In that case, definitely do do the DLC now, as it's some of the best content in the game/the Souls series as a whole. The first boss, and the area that follows (as well as the boss for that area) is absolutely incredible.

It's not super long: it took me 2 days to finish it, although most of the second day was spent trying to beat the last boss of it.

I appreciate the advice. Thank you.

definitely play it. it will add about another 10 hours onto the play through unless you really struggle. has some of the best areas/bosses of the entire game and a load of new weapons.

Absolutely do the DLC. The DLC is stellar in terms of scope and quality.

Not to mention that doing the DLC in NG+ is quite a large difficulty jump (which you might want if you're up for a challenge) if you decide to come back and do it after finishing the game.

This is too good to pass up. I missed out on the various Hunter statues and that gorgeous Maria statue, but I've pulled the trigger and preordered the Doll. Also going to get a few of those little Hunter Figma's when they are available.

Such amazing detail!
The Hunter statue is amazing. It was worth it to me.

I'm on the Loran Chalice dungeon and these guys have a ton of health is this something I should be tackling at a higher level than 65? It's doable at the moment, but I think I have three more chalices to go after this I can't even imagine how tanky those enemies will be.

Ever since I first beat Bloodborne two years ago I sometimes get this nagging feeling when I play other games that I should, in fact, play Bloodborne instead. Bloodborne was my first Souls game and I've since completed the other four games. While I love them all to bits I think BB is still my favorite.

I should play Bloodborne.

Bloodborne is very nearly a perfect game. Right up there with the original Dark Souls.

How do those gifs look so good? :O

HUD is turned off and camera angles adjusted while playing. also probably captured by something like an elgato (and not the PS4's native capture) and further edited in software.

the game is still 720p and looks just like it does on PS4. there is no way to render the game at higher resolution with better visuals.

Isn't the game 1080p?

It's a real bummer that the effectiveness of the Molotov Cocktail and oil paired together dies off later in the game. That first time I did it on Gascoigne I said oh shit out loud at the damage. Now in a chalice I tried it on the Blood Starved Beast and it was pretty weak. Waiting for an easy parry was more effective in the end.

Doesn't it help if you level up your arcane? I have an arcane build but I'm usually too melee focused to even bother with cocktails...that or I actually just use an arcane spell.

You can still do significant dmg with the molotovs but yeah, oil + molotov combo became worthless fast. I dont remember if the fire paper can work on oiled enemies

It does work for one hit, since the stake driver charge attack benefits for one hit, but it's just one hit not really worth it, except that niche case. I can't buff any of my weapons at the moment anyways.

I just hit the first boss of the dlc and they're not at all what I expected both in terms of who the boss is and the nature of the boss itself. I was aware that this particular boss is in the DLC, but I was not expecting this. Props on From Software for subverting expectations, but it does feel a bit like starting with the show with the show stopper, at least based off of the lore I've picked up. I only gave it one try since it's getting late, but it seems rather doable.

The DLC in general has been pretty interesting so far. I feel like parries are a necessity against most of the enemies, since they don't stagger easily and hit super hard. I wonder what people who played through the base game and hadn't gotten used to doing it felt when they first started the DLC, it must have been a pretty rude awakening. I've been struggling to understand why people think so highly of Bloodborne, don't get me wrong I'm enjoying it, but it's not flooring me. That being said the Old Hunters seems like one of the stronger SoulsBorne DLC openings right now.

Wow, co-op in a Souls game IS the easy mode!

I recently finished Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne for the first time but played them offline. I started Bloodborne again yesterday in online mode and I am flabbergasted by the ease that you take down bosses with online help! I summoned help for Vicar, we went in as three; one being the NPC. It took around 2 minutes for Vicar to die. I don't think she even hit us once!

So I've already completed Bloodborne + DLC and recently started a new game (this is a first for me btw - I've never replayed a Souls game before). Anyway, I'm having quite a bit of trouble fighting Gatling Dude in Old Yharnam. On my first play thru he fell off the tower so I never really beat him fairly. I've now died to him maybe 5 times or more and don't seem to be making much progress. Are people fighting him or just ignoring him and proceeding with the rest of the level?

I know that you can approach him from behind via different entrance but I can't remember the prerequisites to access that area before facing Djura.

I usually come back to him later, no doubt I'm doing more damage than the first time you enter the area but I fight him fairly unless he backsteps off or something. He likes to be parried so why not oblige?!

On that, when I come back I think it's usually after Rom and the area looks great later on, darker and moodier, it's nice to just look around from Djura's tower and soak it in.

You don't need to kill him, unless you want his stuff ASAP.
You can visit him after Paarl, by going to him from Paarl's lantern, and up the ladders, and talk to him.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I don't normal try to parry (I think I completed my first run thru of the game with maybe a couple successful parries). I did try to parry him but had no success - despite multiple tries, not one worked. I suppose I will leave him for later... but it hurts my ego, haha :(

I was able to befriend him.

first timers usually kill him since he impedes your progress throught the zone.

Yet if you listen carefully what Djura says, he directly tells you to not enter the zone on the front door, so you have to find another way which is via body snacher event, escape the prison and beat paarl. climb the ladders and befriend him and then go after BSB boss.
