Xbox One X Preorder Thread

I was listening to Major Nelson Radio and the topic of pre orders came up towards the end.

https://majornelson.com/podcast/603-a-midsummer-gaming-discussion/

He said something a long the lines of 'I know that team are working hard on some surprises..... There is he headline right there'.

What could MS have planned for pre orders, the way they are talking about them feels like more than just a 'bundled' game and an extra Game Pass subscription.

Official trade in program?
Elite Controller with Day One Pre orders?
A Day One Xbox One X
Achievement lol
?

I am curious and hope it's not too gimmicky. I'd appreciate anything really, I just want to pre order.

Only if I can put my design in ahead of the release date and have it delivered on release date. I don't think I can wait if they offered something like this, but made us wait till release date to order it. I would assume if something like this would happen the turn around time from ordering to delivery would be at least 6 weeks or so. Waiting 6 weeks, when we have already waiting a 1 1/2 years would be rough, especially for those that don't care about a design lab version and are posting impressions. So if they do this, they would need to let people get in and design at least 6-8 weeks ahead of the release date.

In January 2016, Microsoft launched a limited time promotion - the Name Your Game Bundle - in which the buyer of a new Xbox One console would receive a code to select one of five digital games free. Each of the games was either published by Microsoft or had a marketing tie-in with Microsoft - and these were codes, not shipped discs - so this allowed Microsoft to keep costs down somewhat for this free incentive.

I think we see that again. I think all Day One pre-orders receive a code which allows the console buyer to choose one free digital game. Titles could potentially include Sea of Thieves, Crackdown 3, Middle‑earth Shadow of War, Halo Wars 2 (already released), Cuphead, and Forza Motorsport 7.

I would also expect codes related to the Fall 2017 update of the Xbox dashboard. Free stuff related to (the brought-back) avatars, new backgrounds, and other frilly customization options we'll be hearing about as we get closer to the next Windows 10 Creators Update.

The first free item says "Here - have a free game that is optimized to use the most powerful console ever made." The second (mostly meaningless) items encourage the player to make the device their own: more options to outfit their console character with, items for bragging rights ('day one'), and ways of making the console dashboard seem more distinctive and inviting (a la PS4 'Themes').

Agreed, I think that we'll at least see something like a Forza 7 digital code bundled with it. Excited to see what they're going to offer.

I'm not going to post the clickbait link but there was an article I found on the Internet posted yesterday which says:
According to the Daily Express, a similar situation occurred with Sony's PlayStation 4, which, having been announced in February, refused to let potential customers put money down until five months later in July.

More recently Xbox boss Phil Spencer has provided something of an update on the situation while responding to fans questions on Twitter, where he apologised and said:

"We know we have to get the pre-order rolling. No issues, just working through all the approvals."

UK retailer GAME has posted an update on their website saying that Xbox One X Pre-Orders will be coming ”soon" and many expect this to be within the next two months before Gamescom, especially with less than 4 months until release.

This seems to be a pretty wide net to cast if you ask me.

This GameStop gift card is burning a hole in my pocket so they need to hurry up before I go buy a bunch of pre-owned games in generic cases.

I check Microsoft's store page on a daily basis to see if they removed the note about FCC approval. Still nothing...

When pre-orders do come around, I think they'll definitely need to do something special to generate interest again. Crazy people like us keep checking in, but I'm sure plenty of people have stopped thinking about it.

Yup, I was one of the guys that was going to pre order this and go straight in day one. I even had the money set to one side. I've started to lose interest now. The money has been put put towards other things and I think I'm going to wait it out.

Guys, August. The FCC is only one authority to certify. In Europe and the rest of the world MS has to go through the same process too.

I've cooled off about getting this at launch. I don't play enough games to justify it. Still rocking the 1080p TV too.

August? Stated somewhere or just a guesstimate?

I think its just a guess/assessment. I am guessing they will make a big announcement at Gamecom which will preceed preorders going live in early September.

Of course I would love to just ignorantly throw my money at them NOW and preorder. Microsoft...Don't give me too much time before I start to internalize the fact that my wife is going to murder me in gruesome fashion when this thing shows up in my living room and she asks what it is and how much did it cost.

For those who had wanted to pre-order and may be losing interest, don't be too concerned. The way I see it, here's how this situation usually works out:
1) A console is revealed. Some people are instant day 1, some are on the fence, and some are just plain not interested.
2) Some time passes. Some that weren't are now interested, some that were day 1 are now on the fence, some are still on the fence, and some that were either day 1 or interested are now not interested or have waning interest.
3) More time passes and people continue to flip flop about whether they will or won't be getting one.
4) Pre-orders become available. Those still interested pre-order, those on the fence still wait longer and possibly start asking if there will be some available at launch without a pre-order. Others, just start asking if any will be available without a pre-order because, impulse buy or last minute decision. No one can really answer this, but many ask.
5) Launch approaches, haters hate, something about the cost or lack of games, others ask if Pre-orders are still available or continue to ask if people can purchase without pre-order.
6) Console launches, haters hate, lovers defend purchase and system, people with PC state that PCs are still better, we all move on.

Something like that anyway.

Edit:
cucuchu: LOL! I completely understand that sentiment. Don't worry, those of us who are married know we survive being murdered by our spouses countless times. It's like being in the MCU or DCU or something regarding death. It's never permanent.

That's my guess, as well. I'm hoping that they get approval before Gamescom, and then on stage say that preorders will open after the presentation.

People who preorder dont always end up buying it anyway. Its not as if you cant cancel a preorder anyway. To me, it ultimately comes down to the same thing. People who want it will buy it regardless.

Destiny 2 Pro Bundle for $449.99. If the Xbox One X can get a free game and come in at $499.99 then the price would not be so bad.

This is why I didn't get a PS4Pro and why I'll also be waiting on this.

Neither seem worth the upgrade for us 1080p peasants.

I don't get one thing though.

Several stores here where they tell you you can preorder it, some even require you to pay them about 25 to 50 as well for it. But these aren't real preorders yet?

The supersampling and higher graphical settings and for some games higher framerate (well, more stable framerate) is well worth it! But it all depends on how many games you play. If you only buy 3 or 4 games a year, upgrading is not really a necessary thing. But if you play a bunch of stuff on console, I'd say the upgrade is definitely beneficial.

?? Where ??

I put my name on a list to find out when people can pre-order at Gamestop for $0. That isn't a real pre-order. When they do pre-order at a Gamestop in store, it will likely require about a $50 partial payment(Deposit). Not sure about their online.

Best Buy and Amazon do not actually charge you until the unit ships although Best Buy does a pre-authorization charge.

I'm guessing here, but it could be some stores just putting your name on the list but the actual pre-order itself isn't live. Then, when it does go live, you'll be put on immediately rather than coming in later.

I preordered mine at Mediamarkt in Holland. But there's also Game Mania and Nedgame and I know Game Mania wants you to pay them about 25-50 bucks.

Ahh, I see. I've never purchased outside of the United States and had no idea how other countries and stores handled pre-orders. Makes sense. Thanks for the clarification on the where.

Hinted by MS reps after E3. I do not remember where I got it from. But looking in my post history you will notice it was right after E3 when I started to mention August. If we are unlucky it will be end of August at gamescom. (I hope it is not the case).

Yep! Same exact story here. I went back and forth for the longest time and now I've just decided I don't really need it. It doesn't help that I haven't been playing my Xbox much lately.

To be fair, I'd probably have gone through the same debate if I had a pre-order on day one. The big difference is that I don't have to go cancel my order now.

If Major Nelson is hinting they may be trying to do something special I hope its that the Day One Xbox One X comes branded with a scorpio on it...

I would actively avoid buying one on day one if that was on it

Truth be told I think I would too. I am no graphic guru...just saw that and pulled it off the web for the discussion. If they actually did the logo right and put it maybe on top of the console in a muted grey so it blended better with the matte black or was etched ...then I would be down for that.

You're right don't listen to people justifying new shiny consoles.

Having said that, I'm looking forward to a platform switch with Xbox One X. Wish someone would do a PS4 Pro trade in deal.

I would hedge my bet that Gamestop will. They will probably do a Trade in Xbox One, XBOX One S, PS4, PS4 Pro or Nintendo Switch towards the XBOX One X and get a bonus ___ credit bonus promo at some point. They almost always do.
