Elite Dangerous: Horizons |OT| Just scratching the surface

My Hotas 4 is coming this week, it's expensive, but I hope it's worth it and I will stick to this game for the next months and more.
The vibe here turned a little bit in the last few days tho. :/

I like the HOTAS 4. Bit bigger than I thought it would be, though.

Best thing for me is not needing to switch to/from alternate flight controls: lateral thrusters on the big rocker on the throttle, altitude control on the two buttons next to the rocker, yaw control by twisting the stick.

Symbol button placement took some getting used to. Triangle is in an odd place.

Can't go back to DS4!

I'm considering buying the Hotas but man, I know I'll miss touchpad acces to left/right panels and easy looking around the ship via sixaxis... :/

btw. 5 hours without the game as they update it? FUUUUUUCK, I need my fix.

Here's the changelog:

Stability Fixes

Fixed a crash involving Fighters.
Fixed a crash that could occur when using the vanity camera shortcut while viewing the System/Surface Map.

General Fixes & Tweaks

Overworked Air Traffic Controllers will no longer greet pilots as they are leaving.

Missions

We no longer award micro resources that are not used for anything as mission rewards.
Various mission tweaks and fixes.

Console Notes

Xbox, PlayStation 4: Fix for the welcome mission not appearing for new commanders.

Good to hear. :)

Was it hard to switch to hotas after you played many days with the DS4?
Cause it plays very good for me on the DS4 and I don't know if the switch to the stick will be that smooth and easy for me just because I've got really used to the controller.
Did you had to relearn everything or was it rather natural?

No. It's available. The mission board seems a bit flakey on PS4; probably volume-related, but I've been able to deliver cargo and bounty vouchers and have it appear on the CG progress.

Ok cool, I can turn in my shit and keep on hauling.

Top 50% with only 184 tonnes delivered. It must not have been opened long.

I went from the 360 controller to hotas. Did take a little while to get used to it, but I attribute most of it to the fact that I was in VR and couldn't see the damn thing.

I got the HOTAS on the Thursday after release, so wasn't using the DS4 for very long.

Moving to stick and throttle was natural, especially using the trigger and thumb button for primary and secondary fire. Using the other buttons on the throttle took a bit of getting used to. I reran the docking and first combat tutorial before going back to the main game.

There's a button on the stick next to secondary fire that's left spare in the default config. I've mapped it to chaff which works well. Also had to remap the fire group controls.

I wish they'd just increase material inventory by 500 for data and 1000 for metals etc.

The only actually player friendly solution I see is introducing a per-material storage solution. Everything else does nothing but provoke wasted time.

I would love to see a video of you landing faster than a docking computer seriously

Landing is easy as fuck.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lea_ZWATZL0

Though this docking was no fully successful ;p

You get pretty good after your 900th landing.

You mean 15? :>

When you discover or read that there are arrows pointing to the entrance and there entrance shown on the hologram is easy.
I had more problem at beginning with finding an entrance and then finding landing pad than flying really.

PlayStation 4: Fix for a bug where the game ran at an accelerated speed after resuming from Rest Mode.

I wonder if this is the issue that was causing my ship to teleport in random directions at fixed intervals. Ended up teleporting into the side of the station just after undocking, too.

I did note it only seemed to happen after coming out of suspended, too.

Last night I roamed the galaxy looking for a place to bring these Empire media cargo items to another "control system". I traveled long and far but could not figure it out.

Am I searching for systems that have a white shield? Or systems with nothing? I didnt quite understand it.

Also did two bounties which were awesome. They were totally no match for my Cobra MKIII.

So if anyone can tell me where I could deliver the empire faction stuff to?

I got a HOTAS 4 at the weekend it makes the game feel great and docking is a joy! unfortunately I had return mine as the plastic was cracked :( going to be strange going back to the DS4 tonight.

Just keep in mind that everyone uses it. You might have to go out a few systems to find stock. Though this CG doesn't seem to be that popular.

Yup.

I've done two trips out to 49 Arietis to load up my Conda (About 320 tons - not a total cargo build). And those two trips have put me in the top 25 percent for this CG so far.

The load of power generators I brought in I dragged a long way. Any suggestions for local systems that sell them (or the geology stuff)?

There is a system, only one jump away, around 20ly. (was it ly? I still can't keep all the shortcuts in my head)
If you still don't have one or found it on the website i would tell you.

The close ones don't have loads of stock. Fine if you've got a small ship. But with my Conda I've found it better to go further and fill up.

Sounds like you signed up with the space princess for powerplay and picked her preparation materials instead of the fortification ones. Head to a system in the list of preparing systems, or just any system outside the powerplay bubble. Then give your cargo to the power contact there.

Or dump the cargo and get some fortification materials instead.

I landed at whitworth park, and managed to get into the SrV.

Now, I cant figure how to either

A: Get out of the station and explore

or

B: Get back in my ship

:(

Any help is appreciated.

I'm flying through the aperture of a station when an AI pilot suddenly charges in behind me and slams my ship against the roof of the opening. I'm amazed I didn't take any damage or face any repercussions for it.

I'm also starting to feel that I should upgrade from my Sidewinder so I can start to look into taking on more lucrative mission types more easily. The only notable upgrade at the station I'm at (that I can afford) is the Adder. Is this a decent enough ship for doing a bit of everything (travel, cargo transport, combat)?

You should be able to just drive out or use the SRV thrusters if you are behind a wall or something.

You can get been into your ship by requesting "docking permissions" for the base from your SRV just like on your ship. Once you park in the assigned garage, you will be back in your ship.

You can also just use the middle monitor (down in front of you) and recall your ship. It will land near you and you can board it.

You drive under your ship where you came out and then press square button and down on d pad and then choose SRV and board the ship.

I'm about to stop playing, I don't mind grinding but I do not like being screwed while I grind

I was Donating CR to one guy after about 1 million CR I got him up to Allied but he kept asking for donations so I thought since donating to him also increases my standing with a Superpower let me do that but the damn bar has not move an inch after spending a lot more each time he asked for donations. Donated about 6 more times but no movement.

Is this a server delay or is this a glitch? PS4

The shields are pretty robust haha.

If you can, just upgrade your FSD a bit and see if you can make it to one of the Community Goals. Just getting the lowest tier rewards for one of those is a huge boon to a starting commander. The Adder isn't bad, just not a huge upgrade. Don't get it unless you can afford to upgrade to at least D modules.

Whatever you do, stay away from Engineers then, lol.

I'm probably giving up on Engineers and going to do things I enjoy in the game.

I'm really digging this game. It's pretty much something I guess I never knew I wanted. The grind is real but there are so many side adventures to be had I can get lost messing around.

Working on the cg last week got me some decent bank and this week's should double that when it closes. Looking forward to another but might buy an exploration ship and see what's out there.

Sounds like delay. I've noticed when getting stuff like reputation increases and stuff that it can take a short while to take effect. You'll probably have gotten a message saying "yo we buds now" but it takes a while. Same with engineers.

The Adder or Hauler are supposed to be a decent step up for stuff like trading or passenger jobs. Not sure about combat, mind.

Still using my Adder as a courier/minibus.

I only looked into this a little, I don't enjoy RNG stuff at all so unless there is a super benefit I won't go down that route

I hope so because I keep reaching 10 million CR but have been spending 2 million on donations each time I load the game and just my game play time to reach 10m again before I take a break, so I want to see those results :)

The benefits are unfortunately pretty huge, mostly just optimizing your build though, or necessary if you are going to get serious about PvP.

You can get some decent upgrades without grinding away, I got a few more light years on my FSD range with just the random materials I'd pick up while playing. Same thing for additional power plant output.

I'm pretty close to clicking buy on this game, but I still don't totally get it.

Would a comparison to No Man's Sky be fair as in you kinda have to make your own fun by exploring and trading for a profit to slowly climb the tech/ship ladder? Obviously NMS was kinda a disaster, so not saying that is comparable. Just asking about the gameplay loop.

edit: Also, how does online work? can you switch back and forth between online and solo with the same save?

Lmao. Finally started feeling confidant with the vulture. Spotted a python with a bounty, and said fuck it. Got him all the way to down in health, was at 56% myself when he whirld around and blows out my canopy. I didn't know that was a thing. I kill him and boost as fast as I can to a station, trying to line it up with the sliver of glass still on my ship, and end up choking to death a few seconds short of entering the station.

This.Fucking.Game.

Yes. Prepare to grind a lot to climb the top of that ladder.

I'm not into PvP but I don't want a faster or longer range for my ship so maybe

I'm going to take a nap and hope my rank updates when I get back online, this thing took the wind out of my grinding
