I'm glad they had a disclaimer. I skipped the discussion as soon they told me to since I still want to play it and don't want plot spoilers. I'm not sure what they discussed but I'm glad they gave me the wake up call to go ahead. When I'm at work listening to the podcast on my phone I'm not paying attention to the text description below
Again we don't actually know if they had any spoilers there. If you don't want to hear about the game at all you would've jumped the moment you heard its name.

Personally I'm almost convinced that I will play it, so I don't want spoilers but would love to hear more to give me the final push I need to play it. With that ambiguous disclaimer I just skipped it.

Even talking to him beforehand, I didn't know exactly what Brad was going to say because he didn't exactly know. Thus the disclaimer. I'm not sure how else it could have been done.

And yes, there are big plot spoilers in that discussion.

Well that's not true nor is it what spoilers are about. Games are routinely discussed in Frametrap or the podcast in ways that are not spoiling plot details. Here, Ben had the sight to anticipate where the conversation would be going and was totally right to warn the audience. I don"t understand how you could "not like" a simple warning. Is your issue more about the fact that spoilers can be a part of the podcast period?

And if you had not, you would have heard some very, very major spoilers. So how do you not like the warning if it saves you from that? It's not like Nier has never been hyped to hell and back by Easy A in spoiler-free discussions already. Consider the whole audience: avoiding spoilers as a whole would be alienating.

I think he just wanted the warning to be more specific. Either "We will be spoiling the story here, don't listen if you want to play it" or "We will just be discussing the mechanics of the game and not spoiling anything else."

I don't think that's necessarily unreasonable.

But, since Ben (and even Brad) wasn't sure how deep into the story Brad was actually going to go, I think the warning we got is pretty much the best that could be done.

Yeah, precisely, and save from making these shows very scripted, removing all spontaneity and character from them, this is the best solution all around: you get spontaneous shows where the guests know that, past a certain time and with the host's permission, they can spoil a game without risk to the then-aware audience. I...I fail to see the validity of that criticism :/

Easy Allies |EZOT3| I'm still enjoying these microtransactions!

Yea, watched it as well. Really enjoyed the show -- felt like it was actually somewhat respecting my time as the story progressed on quite fast, with the first few episodes already offering a satisfying story arc.

Watched season2 and somewhat into season3 too that came out like 10 years later, it definitely shows they're from a different era with cliffhanger endings, way over the top action and just loads of "anime" bullshit, still alright but S1 is def best.

S1 is def the best. It just has such great pacing and a perfect mix of seriousness and humor. I also the dig the traditional, non-digital animation. Probably one of the last anime shows that was made that way.

I am so grateful for the time tags on the podcast for Frame Trap now. It is just too long and they definitely go into games I am not particularly interested in. Makes the show more manageable for me and I appreciate that.

So funny them talking about waiting for a remaster over just playing the original, especially this week.
When I 1st got FF12 I stopped playing because i hated the inverted controls. It drove me up the wall. Now 12 and 5 are the only single player FF's ive not beaten and I'd say for the last 4+ years (since about the time FFX remaster was announced)there's been a turmoil inside me of just playing through OG12 and dealing with the horrid backwards camera or holding out for a remaster...and i just kept holding out...and holding out..and here we are today, Amazon pushed a copy of FF12 Remastered through my mailbox and i've got what i always wanted.
Somethings are worth waiting for, even if you don't know they're coming.

That's what I wanted. As for the last paragraph: what i didn't like was the ambiguity, I feel like Brad should've interjected.

Also Frame Trap is a special case since it had an episode where people have walked off to avoid "spoilers" yet the audience weren't warned of spoilers.

Wow. I bought that little Cinder dragon that was the 2nd place prize for my niece last weekend. Although slightly bigger. She loves it. Calls it bubbles.

I'll have to show her that clip the next time I see her. Bubbles is famous!

The FFXV talk on FT was a joy to listen to. Really glad that Kyle is loving the game and I can't wait to hear that discussion once he has finished it off.

Maaaan, that Mario Golf tournament was awesome. Really enjoyed the stream. The character's meanness definitely rubbed off on them, haha.

This is possibly just a superfluous and stupid comment, but in regards to the FrameTrap sponsorship. I take it that when the word was not spoken, the word will be revealed regardless, because of the sponsorship? Otherwise that would be a weird lottery-type thing for the sponsor lol :p

I would have been happy if the group stream ended after Bloods Metroid analysis. Not that the rest wasn't great, that was just awesome.

Always figured Ben just made those up on the fly to find a suitable time to have a fun break in the podcast.

--

Ben, if you're reading -- I think it would make things less cumbersome if you found and added a sound effect to the moment when someone gets caught in a frame trap, much like you've done for the hottake moment. Likewise a sound effect once they manage to break out of it.

Or maybe even find a way to notify the others of it happening without the microphones catching the sound, would give the others a chance to react to it and play along, make it more of an actual real thing.

I just listened to the most recent Fiasconauts, and I was dying by the end. That went fully off the rails into wonderful insanity.

This tournament has more black t-shirts than a metal concert.

Everything Kyle said about FFXV is why I want to play it (the roadtrip, having to sleep, Prompto's pics). I hesitate though since I don't really play JRPGs (that don't have Mario or Pikachu in them). Same goes for Persona 5.

If that helps, I didn't like any of those two games. I found FFXV's plot uninteresting, didn't like it's characters and got bored with the transversal and combat (soooo...the gameplay). P5 is, as all Personas, a very specific brand of JRPG. 4 had left me cold but I wanted to give 5 a chance. The polish, the style were not enough to offset the grindy gameplay loop for me. I think they're two games where the defining elements' qualities are very very subjective. I cannot fault Ben's reviews for these two games for instance, they're factually right and I totally understand why some would like these games...just as much as I stand with those who dislike both.
Please don't kill me guys.

I love both of those games, but FFXV isn't much of a JRPG. Can you still get either of the demos for the game? I'm not sure.

Persona 5 can be a bit taxing as it takes a long time and moves at a slow pace, but the story is great.

FFXV plays pretty differently from most JRPGs. You should definitely give it a shot.

I think Brad missed a bit of the plot in Nier when it comes to 2B and 9S.
Super spoilers below

2B didn't go along with calling 9S 'Nines' because of emotions bring forbidden. And that her calling him Nines slips out during the heat of the battle showing that she has developed a bond with him.

That's what you're supposed to interpret the first time around.

When you find out that 2B was actually 2E, an executioner of Yorha units, and that she was assigned to kill 9S whenever he discovered top secret material.

You realise that this has happened many times before with 2B keeping her memories and 9S being reset to before he met her.

That's why she got so upset with 9S losing wigh a day's worth of memories, because it all totals up. She may have erased months or years of their relationship.

So it's certain that she called him Nines before and it's the fear of the inevitable that makes her distant.

Does anyone know if there's a video online of Ben's interview with Suda 51 and Kodaka (Danganronpa) from the NISA stream a few months ago? I didn't watch it since I wasn't caught up, but now that I am I'm interested to hear what was said.

That DJMAX Technika shout out from Ben during the arcade section of Frame Trap was amazing. I've always wished they would talk about rhythm games like Beatmania and DJMAX since they are some of my favorites and no one ever discusses them.

Ben, check out DJMAX Respect when it releases on PS4.

Whether you like it probably depends on why you don't play JRPGs. I have a negative opinion on FFXV but those parts were my favourite parts of the game too. I was happy to overlook the messy combat system and the god awful side quests (which, FYI, are genuinely bad, not absurd hyperbole like Huber's crusade against Horizon's side quests) because they gave me more chances to run/drive/ride around and explore that world, which was really fun.

Where the game fell apart for me was the storytelling, which was just a complete nonsensical mess. You can kinda see a good story somewhere in there but it's ruined by some of the most incompetent storytelling I've ever seen in a RPG. And it's a lot more frustrating for anyone who has played and finished Type-0, because once you have, you realise that XV's storytelling isn't a mistake, that's just how Tabata thinks stories should be told.

Also, I'd recommend Persona 4 Golden over 5. The dungeons are far more repetitive but the characters, story and dialogue are so much better.
