I'm going to find out how Ed Sheeran looks like when I get home, huh. Only know him from the credits theme in one of the Hobbit movies.

I guess it was cool to see Arya murder all those people dressed as Walder, but it felt like an unnecessary and unsurprising scene. Like, we know that's Arya, we know that's poison, we know she's killing them all

Felt like it should've just been referenced by Jaime, we didn't need that cold open

It worked well for me. I thought it was a flashback to right after the Red Wedding, until half way through Fray's speech where I realized it was Arya. I thought it was super well done and a satisfying opening to the season.

Okay. This isn't my picture, but I did share the exact same thought as the source. As soon as I saw this scene, the first thing I thought, and indeed said out loud, was: "Holy shit. That's Gendry". Thoughts?

I've brightened the picture a bit. But I watched the scene again, and it looks even more like him in motion!

A good solid start, sets up the key players nicely, although they missed a few stragglers.

It better start ramping up though, only 6 episodes to go right?

The only thing I didn't like about this episode was the dragonglass revelation. I don't buy that no one knew that there was dragon glass in DragonStone, and that it was some secret hidden knowledge. These were nobles raised to know all the houses and their history. Surely "They built it on top of dragonglass, look even the throne is dragonglass" would have been somewhat common knowledge.

Lol, no.

Also, why does Gendry matter? Fudge him.

good first episode of S7

loads of set up and re-establishing where everyone is and it was well paced (except i was expecting bran to meet sansa and jon in the same episode)

looking forward to the season :D

dany and cersei's outfits were on point * ___ *

I actually enjoyed the interaction between Sansa and Jon. They knew each other as kids and weren't close at all. But now they've both been through some serious shit and are grown adults, talking to each other as equals. Both want what's best for House Stark and the North and seem willing to have constructive conversations about making that happen. Jon is so much like Ned in his moral core, but he's better at the game and will make better decisions, especially since he's already been killed for his honor. Sansa spent so much time with Cersei that she's kind of the perfect counterpart to Jon's more Ned-ish traits.

As long as Littlefinger doesn't fuck things up by the end of the next episode, Jon and Sansa are my team this season.

And Lady Mormont can continue schooling all these fools whenever Jon forgets to be charismatic.

Gendry only matters now as a supporting character for Arya's development, we're way too far gone for the Baratheons to actually matter.

Sansa is going to get John killed again if he doesn't get her elsewhere.

Knowing that Lady Mormont will be a part of the upcoming battle worries me.
Please be safe :(

They can't kill her off before she's had a chance to tell Jorah all about how little of his shit she's willing to let slide. He'll be keeled over on death's door, she don't give a fuck. Still a few minutes of consciousness left to tell him he ain't shit.

I will be sooooo pissed if Jaime goes out this way.
I think Cersei will outlive Jamie too.. either through her actions or his death in battle or... Him totally channeling his inner Judas and jumping on the Danny or someone elses bandwagon. I feel like it's gonna be fitting that Cersei will be the last Lannister to survive or be loyal to the banner.

One of the dumbest things in the series.
Yeah putting the audience in the place of a character with an effectively edited montage is totally dumb. Why would a show want you to empathize with its characters or show anything other than tits and blood and dragons? Storytelling is a waste of time. Especially when it's done with such panache and humor that, if it had been in a movie, critics and viewers of taste would be showering praise on the puckish editing and skillful direction.

Bad scene in bad show is bad.

If anything he's going to need her playing the game against Littlefinger in the background if he wants to survive. Jon's good at this, but Littlefinger plays on his own level and Sansa is the only one he's got that can hope to match him.

She better be OK, she's the best damn character on this show.

I feel like after her introduction, the show's been treating her like a bit of a gimmick to go "She's a little girl, but she can stand toe to toe with any of these big tough adults!" I like her, but I hope the show stops trotting her out to simply play her up as an audience favorite.

I didn't see that one coming. Maybe different people perceive the same action differently.

Scenes I did feel were predictable:
Guys in the forest laughing when Arya told them she was going to kill Cersei.
Noises outside the cabin being Clegane burying those 2 peasants.
Something happening when Samuel approached that last cell. Didn't know what was going to happen, but it felt obvious something was going to happen.

Pretty good episode overall, but it had a lot of up and downs. A few scenes gave me goosebumps, and others felt poorly written and meaningless.

It wasn't a revelation. When Stannis was at the wall he off-handedly mentioned that Dragonstone was full of dragonglass. The comment was just lost in the shuffle. Sam even alludes to that in the new episode.

Conflicted about the ed sheeran appearance. Although he did nothing wrong himself, I feel like they should have changed his look a bit, maybe dye his hair or put a wig on him. It literally just looked like he turned up to the set and put lanister armor on. I understand people saying it took the immersion out of it a little bit

All in all however good episode and solid start to the season

Decent enough setup episode. Hound was MVP as far as the lines went. Dragonstone being totally deserted seemed a bit of a stretch though (plus apparently left open).

That montage felt so out of place. It was like I was suddenly watching Breaking Bad / Better Call Saul (and the montage was obviously nowhere near as good as the montages on those shows).

If the Lannisters didn't attempt to take the Twins, I don't understand the point of them sending a handful of fresh-faced kids to "keep the peace." It was just an excuse to put him in a scene.

I think it makes sense. The Twins aren't in the North as the area is part of the Riverlands and close to Riverrun, which is where the Lannister forces were at. It wouldn't shock me if there were at least some Lannister men stationed at the Twins beforehand. It is an important bottleneck to keep the North forces in the North.

Yea it was jarring. Felt awkward given GiT was never shot like that before

Hyperbole much? As I said before, we already had a scene of him cleaning shit, gagging and scrubbing chamber pots - we didn't need another one, let alone some contrived montage. It's silly to suggest that we needed that to have empathy for Sam at this point.
