Destiny 2 Beta |OT| Garry's Mod

What's the best class?

Results are only viewable after voting.
Some effects will be rendered at lower resolution which is par for the course and the geometry behind those effects as a result will look more jagged. The volumetric lighting that you see for example is lower than native resolution or atleast doesn't have AA applied to it which makes any geometry that's basked under the volumetric light will look more jagged than others. Same for other effects like DoF.

From what I can tell the game is dynamic 4K on Pro (not sure if it's using CBR or not) but it'd definitely be dropping resolution from time to time which could lead to a perception of more jaggies compared to times when it's at 4K.

That makes a lot of sense. Wonder if it'll be just a little cleaner on full release

No Spanish language in the future makes me sad.

Empty space for a fourth class is still empty

Some random music starts to play when you get close to this door, no Siege of Magdrigal ,sadly.

Whoops, I guess even Eris forgot about Crota

It just lacks that badass one man army feel you could build to in D1 with Fatebringer, Blackhammer, and Ghorn.

I know we wont get that again unless be absolute mistake, but still...That was fun.

that's the thing though, it was that "fun" factor that caused many of us to pour thousands of hours into the game. If this beta is a reflection of D2 then this game def won't hold me for anywhere near as many hours, Im shifting from the pre-order with the season pass to just the base game because of this beta.

The enemies def have more health. Since the loadouts seem prescribed, the titan is the one with a high impact scout. Cabal legionaries were taking 3 crit shots, the smaller cabal psions seemed to be taking 2.

It's more likely we're just dealing with lower level gear.

Ok so I got a key when I preordered. I was going to use it for the pc version beta but now the hype has gotten to me.

My question is if I use it now can I still use it for the pc beta?

The way it looks on the account page you'd need a new key to get into the PC beta next month.

I really don't buy it as a 4k game with this aliasing:

Check out what I wrote before. That area is completely covered in volumetric light.

The only thing I dislike so far is that the most of the grenades feel so weak, still got killed five hundred times by the lightning grenade as usual though. :lol

I did notice that the bad guys in the campaign mission definitely seemed to have more health than similar enemies in the original Destiny. When I died though, they were described as being at Power Level 210, compared to our characters 200. If they've made changes to the level scaling, (or if the damage difference was always this high?), this may be something that makes more sense in the full game.

Or it might not. Who knows.

Once you select a platform for that key, that's it. You can not use one pre-order code to get beta keys for multiple platforms.

I haven't seen it confirmed for Destiny 2 Beta yet, but in the Destiny 1 beta, you got one platform choice per pre-order code. So you could beta on as many platforms as pre-orders you made.

You mean the mission in Halo Reach where you get to dog fight in space ship? You didn't like that?

yep.

I mean it was ok at the time. But you never saw it again. One trick pony for the sake of one mission. And the dogfighting wasn't that great either. Essentially re skinned a banshee.

I don't think so as it's a PSN code, but you can always just pre order another copy then cancel.

The new Arcstrider super is actually a lot of fun. For months now it's been the laughingstock "lol it's just reskinned bladedancer" but I think it's a lot more fun than the Sentinel shield, which is just bash bash bash.

You've played one story mission ffs. You think they are gonna let you try out top weaponry in a one mission beta? Damn.

I can't imagine anyone liking this who wasn't in love with the first. I put a ton of time into the original but couldn't even stomach finishing the strike in this. What a dreadful, dreadful disappointment this franchise is as a whole. It is actually mindblowing that Bungie, the creator of Halo, put together something as poor as this. They are a company that seems to have completely lost their soul.

Sorry if posted already but Luke Smith is saying PvE Power Ammo is getting tuned for release already. Kind of hope they play with damage for Shotguns and Snipers as well, felt like they weren't doing more damage than the special versions from D1.

The lack of loot drops is jarring. I hope it's just for the beta.

Should be, since the Cryptarch is back we'll have to have engrams to bring them, unless they change what the Cryptarch's purpose is.

It's certainly more of the same with minor tweaks. The balancing is much better. But it still does leave me concerned about content and depth. I'm getting it and I'm sure I'll have fun, but I out 300 hours into D1 over all the expansions and really felt burnt out due to the lack of variety and content. I won't do it again if D2 ends up just essentially being another Xpac to the first game.

I fucking called it!

Heavy ammo scarcity really sours the Strike
You've got 2 primaries and a Power weapon and you use your Power weapon like twice and that's it

I get Final build we most likely will get ammo Boxes we could replenish our own ammo but my goodness my 2nd play through of the Strike brought only 1 heavy ammo drop, fucking one

I saved Grenade Launcher ammo for Boss fight phase 3 at like 10% to just massacre everything including boss

So your telling me use 2 primaries for 95% of the Strike, power for the last 5%
That shit is more boring than anything D1 had to offer

Yeah but gear gave different stats to effect Super, Grenade, Melee Cool down, everyone chased either 2-5-5 or 5-5-2 for Tier 12 in Destiny 1 if you were min/max

Now the gear stats deal with Mobility (movement), resilience (damage taken before dying), and recovery (how fast heal and you get your shields back)

Nowhere do I see any option to make my grenades CD become faster or carry more than 1

Faster grenade and melee cooldowns seem to be tied to subclass skills and certain actions, like air kills for warlock. I have not played or looked at the other classes so I don't know if it's similar for those as well.

Kinda surprised there were no button prompts/tutorial in this first mission, took me a while to remember what the buttons do, and there's been changes, right?

.. then either the super is absolutely devastating or that is terribly balanced.

The supers do look buffed to be fair.

Striker can now do multiple ground slams and run around for instance. More shots in golden gun.

I think it's little bit column A and little bit column B.

I don't think PvP would break if supers were tad easier / faster to get. Overall skill cooldowns seem to be on side of too long and pushing game towards your normal run 'n gun CoD experience.

Playing the game and having a blast. The gameplay/gun feel is as always with Bungie games, sublime. I feel bad being negative here but it's just missing that extra "oomph" for me.

Played through the story mission and the strike and I enjoyed them. Liked that they had some cool set pieces with Ikora, Cayde-6, Zavala etc. Lord Shaxxx cameo was cool as well. It just looks and feels like a very refine and very pretty Destiny 1 and that is not a knock against the game. Playing on a Pro with a 4K tv and I think it looks amazing. It's a shame to me the game doesn't support HDR since I think it would make it shine even more.

PvP...it's been a revelation. It still feels as fast and frenetic as before. 4v4 feels "just right" and it really pays off with a team that isn't just running around for kills but that moves in a pack.

Right now the supers charge very slow and it feels like something Bungie deliberately changed. I've noticed that because of this, especially in Countdown, folks have their respective supers around the same time. I don't like this. It feels orchestrated, like I can see Bungie playing puppet master.

All in all it's what I expected after I saw the initial investing and saw what this game was not. It's more Destiny and if Bungie can shore up on some QoL issues that were lacking in the first game...more Destiny with different content is not a bad thing in my book. Not a bad thing at all.

I really thought the PvP in D1 was interesting BECAUSE of the supers and powers. I was hoping they'd be more present in D2.

Again, I was not into the PVP but I enjoyed it about as much as Halo nowadays.

There doesn't appear to be any one-chance supers this time around, they all have a duration and some have multiple uses (Shield Titan can Cap America or Bubble from what I can tell).

It seems the aim is to make their use require more strategic consideration.

Doesn't this encourage snowballing in PvP though?
Super spam is real and is already happening in D2 PvP. A well timed cascade of supers can easily turn the tide of battle and easily bolster a ~10-20 point lead in Control. With a match total being 75 points, this is not insignificant.

That will be absolutely infuriating IMO

First of all, forgive me for posting compressed 1080P jpg shots, it's still a bit difficult and shit to transfer the full quality PNG from console to web. But even these compressed shots will illustrate the things I want to talk about.

Anyways the game has a lot more light sources than ever seen in D1, and it renders lightsource that light up the environment even at pretty long distance despite the abundance of them on screen, instead of getting turned off or changed into a glow/halo.

It also has area lights, not many games use it. Infact the only 2 games I can immediately recall that I use it are Crysis 3 and Killzone Shadowfall. There are probably more but I can't recall which at the moment.

This last one I just liked.

Energy Slotted Weapons counter Supers more effectively now though. Whereas D1 Super's could only be countered by other Supers, Heavy, or multiple Headshots (as long as they weren't in an invuln state).

So chaining supers can absolutely snowball, you also have more reliable soft counter that can reward outplaying a team that's trying to brute force a super chain. Though, how likely that is to happen when they probably got their super from out playing your team in the standard gun game to begin with, remains to be seen.

I feel by the time you get super the match has already been decided.

Definitely can be the case. But will timed Supers and Counter play can make the difference in a close match as well.
