Giant Bomb |OTXXX| Fondle it

The thing about Dota...there is almost no way to make it interesting for non-fans. It's a pointless endeavor. It's too complex and weird. Which, is I think your point. If you can't make a video for everyone why make it? (but does any video fit that category?)

I viewed this as almost a breaking brad style endurance test. Which is a twist on "just playing dota". Can Brad win games as some of the more difficult heroes? I'd love to see Brad's Invoker or IO games. That's going to be pretty damn entertaining to watch. Imagine Brad is on a 10 game IO losing streak and then starts to pull it off.

Bringing Jeff in would just make it miserable for everyone. Dota fans and Jeff included.
So the question is are there enough Dota fans to make it worth doing? I guess time will tell.

Agree with all of this. I don't know what "fun" thing there is to do with Dota without going into trolling territory, which ruins the game for real people, and they wouldn't do that

Like, I don't know if Giant Bomb was created with the premise of "every single video we make will appeal to every single one of our fans" but I really really really doubt it, some people will just have to get over the fact that under 2 hours of a 20+ hour content week (I counted) was based around a game they don't like

Argh, first Friday in months that I could have watched UPF live and I entirely forgot to turn it on.

The sticks in Splatoon always felt weird to me, even before I switched over to motion controls. Can't put my finger on why.

People still upset about their near unanimous decision for Shadow of Mordor for GOTY. God damn, get over it. Bayonetta 2 wasn't that good either.

It made it to GOTY because that year was barren overall for games. Bayo2 wasn't as crazy as Bayo1 and through some miracle the Giantbomb crew somehow remembered the end of a game they played and were able see that Bayo2 could have been more.

B2 has gameplay depth Mordor cant even dream of, and it got rid of the annoying QTEs from the first game. Only the technical limits of the WiiU held it back.

One day they'll realize the Nemesis system didn't catch on in other games because it's not actually that interesting.

Bayonetta is rad, but that's kinda bullshit. The Nemesis system is a really great idea in games where enemies can offer a challenge. The issue is that Arkham combat at it's best is when you face a huge group of enemies, have to use specific techniques to beat each and you need to be going for a high score by mixing your approaches. The challenge modes in the Arkham games were fantastic, casually it was pretty brainless and Mordor was always that; you could just spam to beat a boss and if you knew the mechanics you'd never be in danger.

The Nemesis system is a great idea but the Arkham style of combat is probably the worst engine for it. Shadow of War adding a billion other RPG systems on top of it's predecessor isn't going to fix that. However if that system was in something like a rougelike and when an enemy defeated you the next time round they'd evolve around the strategies that gave them the most grief it would work. Phoenix Point is doing a similar thing. It's an XCOM game where the enemies mutate in ways depending on how your fighting them. It could work really well. Mordor is just roll, stun or attack but don't do the thing they counter and it never goes beyond that.

(I'd have gone for Stick of Truth, Jazzpunk or Shovel Knight in 2014)

It's weird how often Vinny needles Dan about him not wanting to play P5 considering Vinny isn't actually playing it.

Or is he?

Vinny isn't playing because he can't find the time. Dan isn't playing it because Dan has arbitrary silly rules about what kind of games deserve his time. One is far more reasonable reason compared to the other. Vinny giving him a hard time makes a ton of sense.

Totally. This is the same problem anytime new content comes out for a game people don't like. It's not the site's job to determine what YOU individually enjoy most - and Daily DOTA got me interested in DOTA in the first place. If you don't like DOTA, don't watch it. But Brad wants to play it, and people come to GiantBomb to hear the guys talk about the games they want to play. That's what you pay for. If that's not what you want, then speak with your wallet or which videos you watch, but don't harass the people who actually enjoy the content.

It's downright childish when people get like this, and it reminds me how much adults (site's audience skews older) can be complete children on the internet.

Like I've said previously, I just want them to play games they enjoy, which is part of the reason UPF is so hit and miss, watching them get frustrated, bored or just completely ignore the game being played because it's so bad isn't that enjoyable to me.

Excited Brad is the best.

I kind of hope Alex runs the next Yakuza series. Dan obviously doesn't like the combat and I'm afraid that Vinny would spend 2 years finishing everything/fucking around in one game.

Yakuza 0 really works well as a prequel that doesn't require previous knowledge for.

Also it's great backstory for the first game and character origins for those that already played pre Iowa games.

Hell of a thing really.

Vinny: Did they show a trailer for 6 at all?
Alex: I don't think we want to look that far ahead yet though, I think we wanna save as much as that for ourselves as we can.
