Destiny |OT44| A Community in Discord

I can't believe I'm still arguing with some friends because of the "It looks the same, LOL, Destiny 1.5, could have been a DLC, no changes", even from a Destiny player.

I don't get it. What's happening around this game? For some, they didn't like the first one, then they won't like this one and it's absolutely fine, but just because they all wanted to love it this time, they can't shit on it because it didn't become a completely different game so that they could have loved it too. Some people wanted Destiny 2: Mass Effect, or Destiny 2: FIFA, and surprise, it isn't, and apparently it's Bungie's fault.

They're doing themselves plenty of favors. Perhaps your goals for the beta and Bungie's are not aligned.

I'm not talking about stress testing servers, etc. It's obviously helping them there. I'm talking about first impressions and how people perceive the game, especially ones who quit after reaching level 20 in Y1.

No one said it wasn't? The question was why isn't it the latest build.

"Covering", give me a break.

My question wasn't "why isn't it the latest build?" It was why is it this build. It should be one that doesn't suffer from these problems, one that wouldn't cause the types of reactions it's getting.

I still scratch my head at Destiny 1.5 being an insult.

I WANT more of the same...just with more to do, in a package that has learnt from all of the mistakes of the first game. That SEEMS to be what we're getting. Fine by me.

Saying it looks too similar to D1 really confuses me.

  • Graphics have improved, in particular lighting and particles.
  • Enemies have been tweaked/ redesigned. (Vex Goblin, Minotaur and Hobgoblin. All Cabal units. Hive knights.).
  • They have added 3 new Cabal units (Incinerator, Gladiator and Warbeast) two new Fallen units (Can't remember the names, but one with a arc staff, and one with two blade on their back replacing arms).
  • New vehicles.
  • Quality of life changes (Matchmaking for Nightfall, guided games, not having to go to orbit to choose activities, having a map showing public events and activities in patrol.)
  • Vastly expanded and improved patrol.

Of course the core gameplay look should remain similar, it should in any sequel but it should be refined and improved. Bungie have added more new enemy types in D2 than they ever have in a Halo game. The quality of life changes that aren't the most apparent in the beta such as Guided Games will add so much to the experience for those who missed out on raiding.

Overall i'm very pleased with this beta and very optimistic about the full game.

I have my fair share of concerns. But i'm willing to wait until after release to judge. We don't have the full picture yet.

It's not even fully about how the game plays, etc around the release window either as Destiny 2 will go through many iterations and changes (some small and some more meaningful) throughout it's lifespan just as Destiny did. I expect the sequel to evolve and expand with a fair amount of controversy and give-and-take along the way.

Currently I'm a bit taken aback with how different being a Guardian in Destiny 2 feels as you simply don't feel all that powerful. I liked being a super-hero of sorts in PvE while being able to improve abilities, cooldowns, and whatnot but that is clearly being regulated more so by PvP this go around at least early on in Destiny 2's life.

Still excited for the ride/journey...

Too much of the negativity is coming from smart, reasoned people who put thousands of hours into the first and want this game to succeed, so I can't just say fuck it and forget it.

I'm still hyped, but I understand where people are coming from who aren't.

Smart - maybe.

Reasoned - not a chance ;)

They need to tweak the sound of the Titan Lift jump. It sounds like my Titan is farting every time I use it.

Hehe, I agree the sound is kinda weird. It sounds to clunky, needs to be sleek sounding for lack of a better term.

I think the Beta is good, the biggest issue that bothers me is the FOV, I feel like I am wearing blinders. It really hinders the ability to acquire targets in pvp.

Because that was the latest/most stable build of the game they had when finalizing it?

When making such drastic changes to the core of the game, no build was going to please everyone. Especially when they're holding back on a lot of the systems and activities.

Played with the Warlock a bit yesterday. Voidwalker was fun, but the slower version of the Nova Bomb was not. I'll need to switch over to the other set of perks. Overall, the Warlock is very fun to play.

I also did a little bit with the Titan. It's much slower than D1 and there aren't as many mobility options because of the changes to Titan skating and shoulder charge. I had virtually no mobility on this class, so I'd be interested to see how it function was a mobility class armor. Everything else was great. I like having the bubble and suppression grenades. It means I don't have to change up my PvP play style too much from D1.

I kind of like all of the new jumping sounds.

It is in one of the gameplay trailers from the reveal event. Can't remember exactly and I'm on mobile so can't look it up, but it was in an area similar to the Black Garden and it looked like it had wings.

Edit: If this isn't a Knight it is a new Hive mob

^Definitely looks like a member of the Hive family and that scene in particualr looks like it takes place on the waterworld planet?

I've killed the entire opposing team in the final round of two Countdown matches today with Golden Gun. I like the mode but my sentiments is with others in that I don't get why everything has to be 4v4 with Trickle applied, why couldn't we just get new 4v4 gametypes while also having 6v6 gametypes?

Anyone else struggling with which version to buy now? I currently have the collectors edition on pre order, but I think I am going to cancel it - the messenger bag is pretty stupid, and the beta sorta convinces me that I will love the PVE missions and story and then interest in the game is gonna drop off the cliff for me, the PVP felt completely off and unfun to me. The two DLCs included in the CE feel like they will be HOW/TDB tier, a little content that is fairly meaningless. None of the CE digital items (equivalent to deluxe I think?) seemed interesting - legendary sword, emote, and emblem.

I'm leaning now towards pre ordering the physical from best buy, which drops the price to $40, play for a month or two, then trade in the game and come back when they release the D2 version of Taken King. In hindsight that would have been more enjoyable I think than sticking with D1 digital from the start.

I have to stay I would have thought the "Beta" thread would be more than 80 pages deep at this point. While the first Destiny Beta was under different circumstances, etc regarding the mega-hype, it had what at least 2-3 400 page threads pertaining to it?

The discussion seems a bit light but I guess that's a reflection of the content in the Beta itself which isn't much to say the least.

1st beta actually had a little too much for me honestly. I want more surprise in that regard.

I finally started playing the beta (I haven't pre-ordered D2 yet so I had to wait for the open beta) and it's really put any fears I've had about the game to rest. It feels and looks amazing! The enemies also feel a lot different to fight, they don't feel like D1 Cabal much at all. They also put up one hell of a fight - I actually died twice during the opening story missions ;_;

Also those were actual players fighting with me in the Tower, right? Those weren't NPCs were they?

I just hope it really is significantly bigger and content rich to quench that thirst with interesting ways to re-play content from basically Day 1.

Looking back, I'm not sure the AoT update did Destiny 2 any favors considering we had four updated Raids that were current LL and rewarded you with meaningful gear, additional Weekly Playlists, etc. Combine that with nearly three years worth of content and in any case the player-base is likely in for a huge adjustment content wise come September. While I have hopes of being blown away from a content/activity standpoint I'm definitely approaching that subject cautiously.

I really really want to know what their actual reasoning was to remove the special slot and give us 2 primary slots.

Was the decision solely based on pvp balance issues? Where they not happy with how pve encounters played out?

IMO this is the single biggest mistake in destiny 2 so far for me. The power slot now contains sooooo many different types of items. I hope they change they ammo loss on weapon switches.

Really curious how it plays out and how encounter design changes now with 2 primaries.

Pretty sure they are real, I think Bungie has really stepped up their instance phasing tech from ROI. It could be a really cool feature if they implement it well during the campaign.

It's definitely other players and I'm pretty sure it plays out like so, when each player reaches that part of the mission they get the mission dialogue and then the objective of defending the Assault for 3 waves. You'll notice sometimes players are already there or they'll join you during your specific waves but they leave at different times as well.

It was neat the first couple times and definitely has potential for future missions/engagements but, and it might just be mission fatigue, after playing through Homecoming 6 different times I don't think it added much to that particular mission overall and in fact don't find many redeeming qualities about Homecoming to begin with as it was basic linear combat through and through with a small exception maybe during the outside/raining portion.

Yeah I think the way it works is Zavala is just permanently throwing domes down on on a dedicated instance and it matches you into it with others.

Will be cool though when your playing story with two friends, then all of a sudden there is six or nine of you for a big battle. Could see them using it towards the end of the campaign to take back the city. A mini army of guardians wrecking shit.

Pretty bummed about Hunters being so butt.

I have to believe that we will get back the Nightstalker subclass at some point during the 1-20 progression and it will be the go to PvE class yet again for the Hunter class.

I really, really want to play as a Gunslinger in PvE but I doubt that's going to be a real option.

I'm really curious how all the class supers in general are going to play-out in Raid encounters especially with the new weapon system as they seem a bit ill-served all-around. Probably getting way ahead of myself but maybe the Raid is mechanics heavy rather DPS heavy.

I put some time in with the other two classes and hunters have so little utility in almost every way. But yea, meant to post in the beta thread since there's so much enthused dialogue happening there.

This is a really dumb question but I can't find any info on this anywhere or I'm not sure how to search for it so I thought someone here might know:

Years ago on some Destiny tracking site (I honestly don't remember which and can't seem to find it) you had to link your account to the site to verify you were that player buy changing an ID name fields on bnet to a specific string of characters so it would identify hey this is you. So I did it in my case it was d6b6fb4e. The problem now is that ever since then whenever I get emails or communication from bungie it will say be things like "d6b6fb4e, join us in the Destiny 2 Beta" and it's been slowly driving me bonkers for years. I've gone through every setting I can find on bnet multiple times today and the only things I can find that would be close to that is under settings you can change your user name and your display name, but both of them already say MrDaravon. I've logged in using both my Xbox and PSN logins on the site and re-saved both of those name fields as MrDaravon to make sure and I'm still getting emails and whatnot with d6b6fb4e.

It's dumb and not a big deal but does anyone have any goddamn idea how I can fix this? I couldn't find anything searching online or on their site but I'm not sure I'm even using the correct terms.

I'm not feeling this whole "defeated" feel good thing on PvP. If I got an assist - just tell me. Don't play it off like I killed someone when I clearly didn't. You also can't see your score during the game anymore.

I'm curious to know what the general consensus on this beta is outside of the GAF bubble. What if people are loving these changes and the engagement numbers for this beta shatter's records? Would love to see some of the data Bungie is seeing. We all know how the GAF echo chamber was opposite to the actual success of Wildlands.

I have to admit countdown is pretty fun with a team.

Also the weapon changes have definitely made pvp better, my main concern now is with pve.
