Looks like a try-hard BSG.

Could be good, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Yup, though I did think the idea was about as dumb as this initially.

Yeah, but they went silly very quickly. Good kind of silly. Doubt this will happen here. I think Krypton would work well if you would make it pulpy nonsense like John Carter or Mars-type with laser lances and other crazy stuff, but it looks very down to earth.

Lol I cannot beleve this is actually going forward. I remember making a thread on the announcement like...three years ago?

Also I think both vids from OP have been pulled.

It looks visually impressive. But man, this is going to be a hard sell.

With Gotham, you could at least say there was some intrigue in the initial concept because there are tons of stories you could tell about the early years of characters like Jim Gordon, Bruce Wayne, Oswald Cobblepott, etc. Plus, it doesn't hurt that the show itself has gon complete batshit insane since its premiere.

But this? I don't think anyone is really clamoring for a look into the life of Superman and Supergirl's granddaddy. That's the craziest part. It isn't even about Jor-El. It's about their damn granddaddy. Who cares?

Video still plays in the embed on this page:

And it looks......eesh. Not sure why they're even making this.

I thought the same about Gotham, but that's turned out to be pretty damn good. They can tell any number of stories because we don't really know that much about Krypton before it went to shit.

They can introduce a version of Doomsday (the computer in the ship in BvS mentions them trying it before), Brainiac, as well as various other characters we haven't/won't likely see in the movies.

Sy-Fy are really upping their game of late huh?

Expanse and now this...seems they've had enough of being the joke of TV.

Don't forget the best SF on TV, which is 12 Monkeys. Puts every other time traveling show to utter shame.
Plus Magicians is pretty damn wersome, and Dark Matter/Killjoys are oldschool scifi tv comfort food.

Yeah, SyFy is experiencing creative ressurgence

Silver age DC was very separate but equal when it came to black people being shown futuristic. Read up on Tyroc the Screamer
In which they gave him a racist origin to explain why there are no black people instead of just having them and one of the creator intentionally made him ridiculous as a form of protest.

The DCEU version of Kara is around 20,000 years ahead of Clark according to the Man of Steel tie-in comic

So probably not.

They could ignore the comic I guess

I think they'll likely end up ignoring it or just say that was another person with the same name and names get reused over time like what happens in real life. I still Kara shows up in the Man of Steel sequel.

Not interested in the planet Krypton or seeing something with Goyer as the primary writer but damn that teaser still looks like it could scratch my sci fi itch

Not sure if same old teaser, but they released this from SDCC: https://youtu.be/TKlbfQqLVqE

Actually looks pretty good? Maybe? CG is way better than I thought it would be. Looks like it takes place in the DCCU before Man of Steel too.

Very short but looks fairly impressive so far. I've never cared much for Krypton and its history but this could be interesting. Might be the first SyFy show I watch since Galactica.

*Shrugs* Luckily they are still producing quality shows, regardless. The Expanse is genuinely excellent. The Magicians, Killjoys, Dark Matter, and 12 Monkeys are all fun shows that feel like throwbacks. If you like the style you'll probably like them.

Oh that wasn't meant to be a dig at SyFy, I've heard great things about 12 Monkeys. I just don't watch a lor of television. I still haven't finished Breaking Bad and I'm 3 or 4 seasons behind on Game of Thrones.

Yeah but not the Nightwing most people care about.

Sure, most people won't care but it would be fun if the first ever official Nightwing we get to see in live-action (well, unless I'm forgetting something) is the proto-superhero Kryptonian version. Me and about 5 other people would be pretty happy about it. And I'll be even happier if he's part of the El family.

Ugh! Just stop, please. The show is already going to suck bad just from its' very premise. Now you're going to shoehorn in Superman villains and never have Superman show up? What's the point of that? They do know that Kryptonians, while on Krypton, are as powerless as humans right?

What's the harm if it's already gonna suck bad? Could be extremely fun.

At least Gotham followed Jim Gordon in Gotham City and you know you'd be getting a glimpse of Batman's rogues gallery and young Bruce. This follows Superman's grandpa on Krypton. I could not give less of a shit about Superman's grandpa or what happened on Krypton two generations before it went nuclear. The time traveling villains aspect sounds like a fix for a boring premise rather than an interesting premise on its own. They should have just made a Superman show if they weren't afraid of stepping on the toes of the DCEU.
