No, it had nothing to do with Hawkeye's level 3. I heard about Ant-Man from a big list of names, and every other name on that list has proven to be correct. My personal assumption is that the list I received came from an old build and that Ant-Man had to be cut, but again, that's just a guess. All I know for sure is that Ant-Man was in MvCI at some point in time.

This isn't a game about fan favorites. If you want a VS game that includes characters you want it's called MVC3. MVCi is about including characters to maximize profits in other sectors or IPs. Gene and Asura are characters from dead IPs they'd have to make from scratch.
Here are all the new characters in MVCi
Ultron (age of ultron)
Captain Marvel (Upcoming solo movie)
Thanos (Upcoming avengers movie)
Gamora (MCU gotg)
Jedah (Probably because Ono is a big DS fan and is pushing internally for a new DS)
Monster Hunter. (Big MH game coming to the west)
Megaman (most requested character on both sides, probably had a game in development, but cancelled)
Everyone else is a modern day sprite dump from the last game sans the X-Men/FF, Viewtiful Joe, Wesker, Virgil, PW, and anyone with a vagina.
DLC is
Black Panther ( upcoming solo movie)
Sigma (megaman villain, part of the main story)
Wouldn't expect Gene and Asura ever. Unless there's some revival happening for their IPs.

Iron Fist has a chance at making it in now that he's been rewritten as white. Marvel isn't really pushing for the Defenders. Daredevil would require new assets completely and would mean that an MCU character wouldn't get made.
Hearing this makes me even more confident he got bumped to DLC. Thanks for clarifying.

Can Gamora airdash? Also, the damage scaling and hitstun decay seems strict. People are doing full solo combos into a super and are unable to get more than a handful of hits with the second character. I obviously haven't played any of the non-story demo builds, but it seems like both of those things combined will limit things a bit.

Yea. If they at least had new default looks I could see it but they don't. If they were pushing stuff we'd see more changes and more of their recent titles (albeit small).
Really only Hunter could stand out as being a marketing tool for monhun world. But even then the series has been a capcom staple for awhile now.
I will say I'm still sad about not as much from the vault additions though

Asura is practically a meme character (like Alex) at this point, where his requests are as common as blows of the wind.
He's definitely a game-selling heavy-hitter at this point.

Eh, I didn't see he did. Considering some people believe we're not even getting the 27 currently revealed characters in the game at launch I've started to believe people believe anything.
I've mentioned this previously, but if Goblin could set up Glider traps/mixups by remotely controlling his glider to bomb the stage, stay in a certain spot and fire projectiles, ram through the opponent at high speeds, and so many other crazy things goblin could be extremely dirty

I am very confident that Asura will make into this game and wouldn't be surprised if he was season 1 dlc or the mystery capcom character. .. how soon we forget when dock ock was brought up they mentioned the inclusion of a six armed character that it would be cool to team ock up with. Who else is in capcom portfolio that has six arms and would be a better fit over asura?

X-Men had 7 reps, Doom, Akuma, Viper, PW, etc... it wasn't until the odd additions and omissions in UMVC3 that people made those accusations. MVC3 had an amazing hype cycle that was mostly positive. UMVC3 is when things took a turn for the worse. Infinite just exacerbated that by 10.
