'Emoji Movie' Criticized for "Tasteless" 'Handmaid's Tale' Tweet

I don't think any dystopia has ever been subtle, but I get it, you're pissed off that someone found a halfassed ad tonedeaf

Wasn't aware I was pissed, but I understand that speaking on the behalf of another is easy and fun.

There's bigger issues than outrage over fiction referencing fiction.

I admit I don't understand the anger coming out of this.

Is it because the series has a bleak look at a futuristic society and therefore its send up in a kid's film is inappropriate?

Is it because by making that mock up image people associating it with mocking the series and therefore making light the idea of rape? That's pretty long stretch imo.

This is like the Minions movie using 12 Years a Slave for marketing. Why would you even think to crossover a kids animated movie with a show that features rape...

It's not even close. Slavery is a thing that happened in America, Handmaids are sci-fi. The closest analogy to real life would be in Saudi Arabia.

Like posting to a thread about how you don't give a shit. Glad you got that issue cornered

No its not. Its like a kids movie referencing 1984.

Handmaids Tale is an excellent SF novel, not some holy scripture. And even if it was, its not beyond parody.

Nailed it. Shitty parody thing references popular thing. I feel sucked into this shit drizzle by making this lame post.

Who gives a shit?

Yeah. It deserves mockery, not indignance.

Oh my god, who fucking cares. Godamn the Internet is annoying me today.

I can't believe people are actually upset about this in this thread, pathetic.

Do you jabronis even think about the irony of what's being posted before posting it? You're all more indignant, outraged, and pissy with these shitposts than the folks shaking their head at this ad.

I looked and the closest thing I could find was a still for a YouTube video called 12 Years a Minion, so I found a different serious film instead

I would watch this.

It's a story about women being stripped of their rights and identity to serve a new totalitarian government. For some women that might as well be the world we're living in now. I've heard some people refuse to watch it cuz it's super depressing with how relatable it is.

It does seem like every moral outrage on Twitter or Tumblr or whatever is being covered like it's actually a news event and gets re-posted everywhere, so i think it's fair to be annoyed by nonstories clogging up the newsfeed all of the time. Outrage sells, whether or not it's warranted.

This form of gaslighting should be a bannable offense.

It's a matter of choosing battles vs. saturating any and all arguments by showing outrage over the pettiest of things. And no, I don't think anything you just said is correct.

You have no idea how much I'm looking forward to seeing the reviews for this piece of shit. The entire movie is an insult to modern society and the art form of motion pictures.

I mean yeah, it's a dumb fucking movie.

But this is hilarious.

I think this is hilarious because it shows that the marketing for the film is as shallow and mindlessly memetastic as the the reality of emojis. The fact that there is an emoji movie to begin with is moronic. This is just where the path leads. Next destination: Ready Player One.

It's funnier than this nonsensical ad. Not an affront the way the very existence of an emoji movie might be but...

Very imaginative fiction doesn't need to be held sacred.

Yeah but the entire modern usa getting totally taken over is hard for me to buy. I just have so many questions

They start trying to explain how it happens in flashbacks, which I found made this aspect worse because suspension of disbelief became difficult with it being thrown in my face rather than left a void I could just ignore.

I, for one, am not mad.

Rather I just want to ask.

Why?

Of all the possible forceful crossovers you could have done.

Why this?

Why, emoji movie?

Patrick fucking Stewart is in your movie. Why didn't you do X-Men or Star Strek instead?

Handmade's Tale happened to my dad. He ran a bunch of fertile women in his own country. It was horrible for him.

What's even the joke here? I know kids love "haha pop culture" but what kids are even aware of The Handmaid's Tale?

We live in 2017. Jokes don't require punchlines anymore. They just have to reference something we're familiar with and we laugh because we've been trained to laugh at things we've seen before on the internet.

We could start by quitting using the word outrage and call it what it is: criticism.

Sony Pictures having a historically terrible year

Considering this still has to come out, plus Dark Tower, Flatliners, and Jumanji, it ain't gonna get better

Blame the news articles writing about tweets instead of the people tweeting.
