What about if I am downloading a game like Robo Recall? Its probably going to take a while. Should I just diconnect the headset?

I never unplug mine. Too much of a hassle. It has a sensor in the headset to know when you put it on and it automatically launches Oculus Home when you put it on and then goes to sleep when you take it off.

Awesome.
This thing is amazing.

I think Thedude linked software where in your system tray, you can shut off oculus completely and start it up completely whenever you want. the app also offers supersampling among other features. if you look back some pages you should be able to find the app.

Also, you are feeling what I felt when I first tried it several days ago....soon you will have the urge to keep buying new content cause you want more new experiences.

I still just say I don't see how anyone can go into VR and not be impressed. Aside from some of the negatives like fresnel lens, or a little screen door effect that will all get better with new iterations, I just don't see how any and all wouldn't be impressed with what they've accomplished so far.

It truly feels you're in these games, it's nuts.

So since the sensors were back in stock I ordered a third, and then realized my basement play area wasn't quite ideal. So I spent this evening rearranging all of my workbenches and exercise equipment to try and clear up a decent space. Previously I had all of my workbenches forming a U shape so I could sit or stand in the middle and easily access whatever stupid projects I was working on, my PC and desk were to the side of the benches, and a bunch of exercise equipment was just kind of strewn about.

Now the U shape is gone and the three workbenches are lining the length walls, and the equipment is gathered at the far end of the room, less actual workout space to maneuver in, but far tidier. I moved my PC to the middle of the width wall on the opposite side of the equipment, and now there is an 8x12 foot empty space in the middle. I hope that's decent enough.

Well that video is specifically showcasing new graphic options for Nvidia cards, so unless you're using a Pascal card (and if that update has gone live) it won't look that good for you.

Thanks dude!

OMG I only have 1 HDMI on my 1070 lol. I didn't even THINK to check I just assumed it HAD to have 2.

NOOO!

Ran into the same problem with my 1060 lol.
I have a hdmi2display adapter on the way, but it will arrive tomorrow.

I am sitting here with an oculus in my appartment and I can't use it.

Does anyone know when Amazon gonna have it back in stock? I ordered it couple of weeks ago and received an email saying it will take longer than expected but they didn't give me a new date.

The left speaker on the headset doesn't emit any sound :(

Sometimes when I put it in a specific location it does, does it happen with anyone else?

Also, Robo Recall is a game changer

In your box there should be a black screwdriver type thing.

The speakers have a screw on the inside, un do it, take it off, clean the connections and put it back on nice and tight. Same thing happened to mine and haven't had a problem since.

Finally got my Rift today by roundabout methods for £328. I'll have to wait for the Touch controllers which have the second sensor so my first question is: will this work fine seated in a racing cockpit with just the one sensor? I've bought it mainly for sim racing so am not too bothered about the wait for the controllers, but I'm champing at the bit to get stuck into some VR Assetto Corsa, Project CARS and RaceRoom.

Yeah I think it works fine with just 1 sensor if you're using a xbox controller/ keyboard etc (otherwise they would have included the 2nd sensor with it). You only need 2 for the touch sensor and then 3 for room scale (its possible for room scale with 2 using experimental positions).

Yes, that was what I used it for mainly before getting touch, works perfectly

So my Rift is finally out for delivery today, and last night I came down with a cold. Ugh. I feel like I shouldn't play until I'm feeling better because I don't want to get motion sickness just from being congested.

Thats very interesting. I just checked my BestBuy order for the headset and it says:
What's Included

Lucky's Tale Game
Oculus Remote
Oculus Rift virtual reality headset
Owner's manual
Sensor
Xbox One Wireless Controller

Yep that is the old bundle that just includes the two different boxes together. The new one does not have the xbox controller and the remote.

My videocard has 1 HDMI and 3 DisplayPorts, my new motherboard (X370) has a HDMI port. Can the Oculus use one HDMI and the computer monitor use the other or do both have to run off the videocard meaning I need a HDMI/DisplayPort converter?

You can use the two ports together. That is how my setup is.

Wow, just wow.

I bought the Dev version kit back then and thought it was good but still had work to get to the masses.

Now the rift, it's pretty cool, resolution is much better and the sensor is good for positioning.

But the controllers. Holy shit. The controller just make the game go several layers deep. Tried superhot be and it's a killer app. The sensation that you get when putting your arms up and seeing them and doing something natural like grabbing something and seeing it happen it's just another fucking level.

Buy superhot. Buy it.

P.S.: as I understand, Vive controls are even better/more natural? Can someone with both comment? I do not discard getting also a Vive. Can you mix Vive controllers with the oculus headset?

The consensus is that the oculus touch is the best controller out now. Vive is better for games designed for vive though. Valve is working on a better controller.

Uh.....what?

Maybe you will get lucky and get a second one?! lol Where are the touch controllers? I see you stayed with the Bestbuy bundle.

They have a preorder for the new bundle that doe not include the xbox controller and oculus remote that ships Aug. 7th.

Anybody else have trouble with USB extenders on the sensors? I'm using 16ft active USB 3.0 extenders, someone posted a link to them in this thread. It keeps giving me a "poor tracking" error, though this seems to go away when I put the headset on and stand in view of the sensors, for the most part. Still running into tracking issues occasionally even when in full view of the sensors. I'm doing the 2 sensor 360 tracking.

Would love some input from anyone else using extenders. In Oculus set up it tells you that poor tracking error is a result of bad USB power or something, but I'm not sure if that's the case. Everything works fine 180 tracking without extenders.

Does anyone else get a headset not connected error every once in a while? I think sometimes it happens when the tracking goes haywire. It would do that for a second and then come back on. I have an msi computer with Dragon software that auto detects the vr and optimizes the computer for it. Wonder if this is causing it.

I had to buy a PCI adapter to fix this issue. All three of my sensors are on 16ft extenders for my basement VR room. When I had all 4 devices (sensors and headset) plugged into the pci adapter, or all 4 plugged into the motherboard, I got poor tracking issues. When I plugged two into the motherboard and two into the adapter, it worked just fine.

I'm still waiting on an Oculus Touch shipment from the Amazon Prime Day deal. Other sellers have it in stock but its $23 more than the Prime Day deal.

Could I just order one now and return the one once I get in the other shipment and get refunded that amount?

So close to getting this to work!

I now have the experimental diagonal positioning for the sensors set up but now my
Steam VR chaperone isn't lining up correctly. Like no matter how many times I reconfigure and reset it it's always off by a significant amount... meaning whenever I try to move around I run into my bed and desk lol. Not sure why this is as it's showing correctly in Oculus Home... :/

Also, in my old-ass 3rd gen i7, GTX 960 and just USB 2.0 everything is running flawless :D

If you're using the SteamVR beta home turn it off. It's got some seriously insane issues with it. I've always had my chaperone bounds completely messed up so I turn those off and only use the oculus ones.

Are the Oculus ones going to be compatible with all games?

Well they both show up no matter the system I've seen once I get the steam tracking fix it always fucks up severely when I used the beta home to the point my chaperone bounds teleport away from me. But it's a 50/50 it could be either bounds.

So I always turn off the SteamVR bounds. I know the oculus ones show up in SteamVR.

How do I turn off the SteamVR bounds my friend?

Alright got Steam chaperone disabled and now everything is working fine :) Floor is properly centered around me. Even with my extremely limited space this shit is really cool. However, it limits what games I can play while using roomscale. What kind of sitting or standing games do you guys recommend?

You can play Pavlov in standing mode same with Echo Arena as well.

Quite a few games you can play standing.

Thanks! I'll try this tonight. I had a feeling i might be overloading usb ports. I have three sensors all connected to usb3 ports along with the headset using one. I read it's recommended that you use one sensor in a usb 2 port. Unfortunately I don't have any in my laptop.

I think most games can be played standing. They usually use the stick for movement/turning and/or teleportation. Just be aware of what's around you. Despite the guardian bounds popping up people have managed to punch their desks, monitors, walls..etc

Just finished the demos in The Lab from Valve. That crap was amazing.
I have to say room scale works every bit as good as the Vive does. So far I've had zero tracking issues.

I am curious if my ceiling mounted sensors are angled down enough. I THINK they are but I dont know if they are at the perfect angle.

Is there any way to fine tune this setup now?

Do VR games adapt to the graphics card that you have? Because EVE doesn't look this good to me.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlbNmts3iek

Looks like that here except the super high AA. A 1070 can't maintain 90fps even with aggressive lens-shaped rendering on that MGSAA. That's probably a 1080Ti thing...

Otherwise it looks just like that, yeah. It can all be reached with settings. Without a 10-series Nvidia card you can't get those ultra settings though.

Lots of things can cause it, but be careful cuz one potential cause is a problem with the headset to wire plug. Some people (including myself) had a problem with the headset wire joint (probably a cold solder situation). I had to RMA (which was pretty painless though).

Hopefully will not happen again. If it's disconnecting when you move the wire at all, that's probably your situation, sadly.

I agree. The robot repair one is probably my favorite. Seeing GLaDOS to scale is amazing.

I really hope that Valve VR triple pack comes out (soon). Amazing games. (I love Xortex, and the catapult and arrow games are frankly amazing).

You can try using desk scene for this:

A little surprised there's not a lot of discussion about Thumper so far.

It's not the standout VR experience that stuff like Lone Echo or Superhot are, but it's a fun rhythm game that's already pretty great on its own, but immensely benefits from VR.

I feel like that would be visual spammy if you went into vr.
