Wants the largest console games publisher to avoid Nintendo's platforms.
I'm surprised nintendo managed to stockpile that much hw in Japan.

Reports from Media Create Sales thread say that there was a standalone console shipment of around 30K, so 70k or so bundles were provided. It seems like Nintendo had a baseline of around 30K with some stockpiling for Splatoon 2 on top of that number.

Gotcha.

So I guess Splatoon now gets added to Nintendo's most successful franchises list.

It now includes 2D/3D Mario, Mario Kart, Smash Brothers, Pokemon, Zelda, Animal Crossing, and Splatoon.

Wonder if the garage program will give us something else soon that is of that calibre.

Lol it already outsold BotW and MK8DX. That's crazy and kind of sad for BotW. I don't know why the Japanese don't like Zelda more. :(
I think the conclusion should be that Splatoon 2 sales are fire, rather than BOTW sales are meagre , since they really aren't.

Amazing. And to think I was hardly interested in the series when revealed. Now it's my favorite franchise, and is apparently massive in Japan.

Great sales. And well deserved. I wonder if SMO will top this or Splatoon will be the best Switch game launch this year?

3D Mario don't sell as well as their 2D counterparts.

Kirby is always forgetting on this forum.

You can though, it's just that a lot of people in the West are also playing Splatoon 2 right now. Splatfests are still regional.

This is possible. Nothing's changed.

Matchmaking is ping based now. We can still play in private matches, but we don't see them in regular battles. I haven't had many issues with this change, but other I do know have issues finding consistent matches especially in ranked mode.

I think your rank is just too low.

I should be S rank by now, but I don't have enough time to play as much as I would want to right now unfortunately.

Kirby is not forgotten - it just doesn't sell as well as the franchises mentioned above do. The max one usually expects from one is around 3 million, which all these franchises consistently go past. I'd say Kirby is level with Fire Emblem.

Am I wrong to having expected higher numbers for Splatoon? A 55% attach rate seems low for Japan giving the insane attach rates Switch has shown so far. What are Japanese gamers playing on their switches?

Will be interesting to see the sell-through of the game.

102k for the Switch is nice although I am sure with Splatoon having released this will not have helped supply-constraints but might make them worse for the weeks to come...

Which Nintendo now considers one of its core franchises. Kirby as a franchise also up there.

There's a difference between a 100% attach rate at launch and one a few months in imo. After those months a more diverse audience is on the system, so 100% adoptie is almost impossible. That said, the game is only out for 3 days: the attach rate will rise further in the next few weeks too. It could very well be over 70% after 2-3 weeks.

Amazon Japan. Digital sales. Neither are taken into account in these numbers.

Many a Splatoon 2 sales were made on Amazon.jp and those are not counted in these sales charts.
So should we expect a big difference between Media Create and Famitsu for Splatoon 2? Is there an indication that amazon Japan sold disproportionately many Splatoon 2 copies?

OP, either you are predicting it will break 10mil or you are asking if it'll break 10mil, but you can't have both.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Just for reference - the best selling game in the UK for this year is GTA V with 334k copies sold. Splatoon 2 sold twice that much in 3 days in japan on a system with a userbase of a bit more than 1m.

Turf War. "Play with players all over the World" Kind of amazing that I haven't played a single game against anyone from Japan. I switch back and forth between this and the first Splatoon. On the Wii U Splatoon it's largely Japanese players.

Comparing two different markets, one which is way smaller, seems a bit weird to me.

Just a reference - no need to take it too serious.

And no the Japan Switch market with less than 1.5m Switch consoles sold isnt bigger than the PS4/XBO market in the UK....i mean come on, compare the No. of sold systems.

?

It will end up as the best selling Zelda title of the last 10 years (Phantom Hourglass 900k 2007) or the last 20 years even (Ocarina of Time 1.1M)

Zelda as never been as big in Japan as it was in western markets.

Great performance for Splatoon, hardware bump is okayish but nowhere near enough to satisfy the demand which is still a shame :(

I know Zelda isn't big in Japan. It's still sad to me it's not bigger there.

As Fisico said, Zelda hasn't as big in Japan of late as in the west, but BOTW is really a remarkable turnaround for the series in Japan. It is doing way better than other recent titles. The success of BOTW represents a much greater interest in Zelda than in the recent past, so if you are hoping for increased engagement with the franchise by Japan, this is definitely it and AFAIK far exceeds expectations for a Zelda title in Japan. So, it's a good thing.

It's a little weird, but it got me thinking. UK's market is smaller, of course, but how much smaller? For sake of argument I will define market as simply people 0-64, even though that is not quite accurate. UK has 52.7m people those ages and Japan only has 92m. Which would make Japan's not quite twice the size of the UKs. Even doubling UK's market to 105.4 actual sales seem tiny compared to Japan. It makes me wonder if the UK doesn't play many video games.

Doubling the 334k of this years GTA5 sales is 668k, which is still less than what Splatoon 2 sold for a bigger (imaginary) (105.4 > 92) market.

Media Create report that Splatoon 2 sold 648,085 units and 98,999 Switches were sold (in the same time period).

What's with the "pretty solid" posts? This seems super impressive to me.

I think they are not talking about the units sold, but how many units Nintendo shipped. They could have sold 200k+ if they had the stock, and people were thinking that Nintendo might have only sent a little more than their weekly average of 30k. So shipping 100k is pretty solid.

Considering it crashed the eShop it probably sold a good amount digitally since that's the first time it's happened and even MK8 didn't affect it that hard

Splatoon is amazing. I love the 'waggle'. Do you kids say that any more? Waggle? I love the 'waggle'. Would be interested in another shooter on the switch. I hope another shooter drops before metroid.
