In a time where atlus has created:

SMTIV: Apocalypse
Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology
Etrian Odyssey I & II Untold
SMT: Strange Journey Redux
Persona 3 FES & Portable
Persona 4 Golden

I can't see them not doing an eventual remake/addition to their highest selling game of all time. I think it's a bit early for that announcement, but perhaps next year.
SMTIV Apocalypse isn't a remake or extended version, it's an entirely different game.

PQ2's Ryuji will be nothing but "MAN, THIS SURE WILL BE EASY FOR US PHANTOM THI...I MEAN, PERSONA USERS!" jokes

Sneak preview of how all PQ2's Persona 5 characters will be written

Morgana: Cat puns and jealousy
Ryuji: Frustrated anger and obvious perv jokes
Ann: "I'm a model tee-hee." ad infinitum
Yusuke: Gay panic and oblivious perv jokes
Makoto: "I'm smart and worried about expectations!" ad infinitum
Futaba: Social awkwardness and gamer references!
Haru: Coffee...

Oh wow first that PQ lttp thread and now this.
I'm totally down for another PQ, really enjoyed my time with the first one.
Also can't really agree with the "all the characters were one note and extremely flanderized" complaint, that really only applied to Chie, Akihiko and Teddie. The rest was fine (not main game level but not like the above either) and the game had some nice and enjoyable character moments.

I hope they move away from 3DS. Admittedly, it would seem unlikely that a sequel to a game that used the EO engine would be on the Switch. I would expect EO to be announced first using a new engine/ designed for Switch, but maybe they see Persona as more potential, so EO team got the go ahead to work on that instead.

I like Persona Q, very fun game, excellent dungeon designs that felt more challenging than any of the EO games on 3DS (I swear they've been dumbing down the series). But as a fan of the Persona games, the characters were a horrible flanderization of themselves.
Keep the characters true to their original design, continue with the excellent design of the first game and you've got a winner on your hands Atlus!

I hope its for 3DS because I don't want to buy a Switch yet. In my dreams it would come out for PS4/Vita but I doubt it if it uses Etrian style again.

i don't know - one game with that cast of characters was almost one too many, imo :) ...

really enjoyed persona q, but will likely be passing on any sequel...

i'd rather have P5 arena tbh. i tried to stick with PQ but just ended up losing interest. guess i'm just not a fan of etrian odyssey's gameplay

It has a new story, but it's still heavily built on SMTIV assets (and started production as an enhanced version). There was only one new underground district even.

i remember when i liked persona 4 before its relatively massive success made me turn on it and realize most of it is junk besides original voice chie

i'll always have old voice chie and my memories

heck, persona 3 got some shitty movies but it still is awesome

dont tell me you're not hyped for

P5: hello i'm P5 protagonist and these are my friends
Ryuji: HAHA WERE THE PHANTOM THIEVES OOPS MY BAD
Morgana: MEOW TREASURE MEOW
Ann: W-what happened to my outfit geez!
Makoto: This is not proper school conduct code Ryuji
Yusuke: Art! I'm weird!
Futaba: INTERNET OMG don't look at me *hides*
Haru: haha you guys are so funny *smiles* here take a vegetable

It hurts how accurate this will likely be.

Could you imagine flanderizations like those in PQ being the only exposure 99% of players have to P2 characters? I no longer dream of them touching P2 ever again.

I think they'd have more freedom with the P2 cast though. They could take them from post-game and have freedom with where they take them, rather than having to worry about keeping them static due to it being mid-game or having to keep them recognizable for other spin offs, like what will inevitably happen with the P3-5 cast.

I think it'll be fun to see the P5 characters meet with the P4/P5 characters, so I'm down. I am scared that they'll just flanderize some of the characters though like they did with Chie and Akihiko (although I thought some characters like Yosuke had some good moments.)

And I'm not a huge EO fan by any means but I liked the gameplay of PQ enough to finish it.

The characters in P3-5 are mostly two dimensional at best. Flanderizing them in a harmless, light hearted spin-off is not a horrible thing given the source material. Protein and steak were not exactly subtle characters traits in the original games.

Down for another PQ. The first was a lot of fun for playing an EO-like game with high production values.

Akihiko mentions protein like twice in the game (and it was Shinjiro who said it, not him), so no: The source material is not like that at all.

P4 in the other hand...

Is this going to be 3ds only or is it going to be on switch I can only hope now.
Regardless though if it is based on the P5 cast then I'm probably in.

Oh yeah Akihiko's thing was training, training and more training. And I actually liked him.

My point is really that these characters aren't exactly deep and are walking cliches, so what is a spinoff in a weird timeline interval going to do with them besides exaggerate what they essentially are when there's no meaningful plot to involve them in.

3DS development is cheap and the system is still going pretty strong, I doubt Atlus see any reason to bring it to HD platforms.

I agree that the Persona 4 characters are walking cliches, but that's all. When you want to be simplistic for the sake of it you can describe all videogame characters as certain archetypes. That's why sites like TVtropes exist.

P1 and P2 characters have been underutilized in terms of cameos.

But I'd almost perfer they not cameo in a PQ game if it means reducing the quality of their character.

Deep characters resist stereotypes because there are different layers of characterisations and seemingly conflicting traits within them that make them compelling.

Persona characters are still fun but in a very shallow way. There is next to no nuance to them and so the stereotypes largely tell us all there is to say about them.

never finished it because i got bored, got spoiled on the ending then found out
that the game doesnt even matter so everyone forgots

hope this one is more memorable

Which is why I like P3 more than P4. There are some tropey characters there in your party and they're good enough but then you have characters that shine like Yukari, (which is not one dimensional like Akihiko or Mitsuru) and then they ruin them in PQ (and in the other spinoffs too).

Outside of P4 and its spinoffs I'd say Persona in general has better characters than most series.

Your avatar is one of the worst characters ever written

Sorry to burst your bubble but P3 is pretty bad as well.

Perhaps he's wondering why someone would shoot a man before throwing him out of a plane.
I'm gonna keep dreaming.

Tired of seeing playboy Yu all the time.

Time for Minato and Joker to meet up.

Everything revolves around planet Narukami. He will be there again, and you will like it.
