Manga News/Discussion |OTD| Oh, you're reading manga? How cute...

Lmao Medlking you were there for Naruto Gaiden, in the Naruto manga thread. How could you forget xD

To be honest I was fond of pretime skip Naruto as well as the Asuma arc, Sasori arc, and the Pain arc. Its just the other shit that really ruined the series especially everything surrounding Sasuke.

Then it started turning into DBZ bullshit lol. I still will have fond memories of it because it did have some genuinely good stuff in it.

Sasuke made the series though. For one he actually drove the story, and had a clear character arc throughout the years. Its no surprise he's one of, if not the most popular character and brings in the fans/money.

Sasuke was mostly irrelevant on the second half of Shippuden though? He basically just showed up from time to time like Tuxedo Mask to remind us he's actually supposed to be the main plot thread instead of the convoluted mess that Madara became. I guess you're right in the sense that the story went to shit when it stopped focusing on him.

Space bunnies.

No Kishimoto basically did a 10 week naruto gaiden arc focused on Sarada.

Ohhhh.... lol

Hahahah wow. My memory is trash.

Hahahahaha!!! I'll never forget the super dramatic reveal of when Naruto and Sakura first reunite with Sasuke again.

Sasuke was standing there with a epic sword then proceeded to be an edgelord again.

So uhhhhhhh sorry ahead for this massive fucking post....

The Niohonmatsu Siblings and the Adventure of Wooden Alley Chapter 1

So after what feels like forever Satoshi Mizukami of Spirit Circle and Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer fame finally brought out a new manga. There's only one chapter out and I'm super surprised I didn't hear about it until now. I just kinda found it, to be honest.

Anyways, one day this lesser demon gets saved by a mysterious pair of siblings, one who uses ice and one who uses fire. They save the lesser demon and reveal themselves to be the Nihonmatsu Siblings, a pair of divinators who do odd spiritual jobs. The lesser demon contracts the siblings to be her body guards and help get her home to the mysterious "Wooden Alley." Hijinks obviously ensue.

So it's a bit early, but I can see two main gimmicks. I don't think there's an interview or something outright saying it, but Mizukami is very clearly either Buddhist or some splinter from it. This particular series seems like it's going to be dealing very closely with Shintoism. A big idea in Shintoism is that everything has a spirit. You, your dog, your tv, your fridge. Everything and you can already see that mentality pop up here. I think this series is going to end up getting very weird very quickly in its monster and world designs.

The second big gimmick is that the siblings are clear opposites of each other, and more importantly, they are opposites of the clear personality types of hot (Joseph Joestar, Josuke) and cold (Jotaro, Giovani) that I only ever see in manga. The gimmick here though is that the one with the hot personality is the one with ice powers, and the cold, almost depressed looking one, has the hot-blooded fire powers. It's kind of a neat dynamic, and I'm curious where Mizukami plans on going with it.

Even though there's one chapter, it's so nice to have Mizukami back. I'm not 100% on the character designs here, but I do appreciate how expressive they are. I feel like this is going to be a more lighthearted series than his previous stuff, but it's hard to tell at this early stage. Mizukami's strength has always been in his unusual and often surprising characterizations and story events. With that in mind, you can already see some subtle framework being built for what will hopefully be a fun and forward moving story. The first chapter ends on a decently interesting note.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
Also reminded me that I still need to finish reading the second part of Sengoku Youko.

I thought it went to shit when it focused on Sasuke lol.
It was a natural progression of the pretimeskip arcs and up to the Itachi fight he was pretty much the most interesting character in the series for me. Then he starts doing stupid shit because Kishimoto needs his own Majin Vegeta.

I've always wanted to say this so I'll say it now...

I wish the manga OT was on the offical OT side to help people get into manga.

If DBZ super can stay in offical OT then surely this amazing thread can be on official.

*coughs loudly*

So, I know people blast Hajime No Ippo for it's almost standstill pacing, which I will agree do occur in parts. But god! Does it sure have some of the best panels I've ever seen. It's a shame that lately the authors health has been so poor.

Naruto was a decent shounen that devolved into a hideous abomination. The asspulls and retcons were infuriating. Don't get me started on Orochimaru's failed clone experiments that they're pretending are children.

I think its been a long time since you've read Naruto. Sasuke had entire arcs and volumes dedicated to his character, so much so that the editor had to remind Kishi that the manga is called Naruto xD

Any word on why WSJ series have been coming out slower than normal the last few weeks? Last week MS didn't have HxH and MHA out until Friday and nothing is out yet this week so far.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard that Shueisha busted a group of leakers so I'm not sure by how many days the manga will be delayed now.

I am a Hero End

I started reading this almost 7 years ago because my Japanese exchange student friend said that it was his favorite manga. I looked forward to every chapter release soon after starting. When I moved to Japan, I caught up by buying the volumes here. Somewhere along the way, with the introduction of characters I didn't give a shit about, and zombie transformations, I lost interest and put it on the back burner. In the meantime, I read the author's two other major works, Ressentiment and Boys on the Run. After finishing all of them, the trends are very clear, and I don't think I can read anything by this author anymore.

First of all, the main character always being a hapless otaku loser is pretty boring. I just don't care anymore. They aren't particularly interesting characters, and most of their troubles are brought on by themselves. I like that they have flaws, but they're pretty much just flaws in the end. Nothing really redeems these characters.

About I am a Hero in particular, I think that the beginning to middle was a very strong series about a more realistic take on a zombie apocalypse from a Japanese perspective. That's interesting and uncommon. Then, we introduce a knife wielding telepathic guy who fights in his dirty underpants. From that moment, I think the quality started to go downwards. Following the story of a group of characters that really don't matter, getting involved in a love triangle with a high school girl, giant zombie beast that swallows other zombies, alien conspiracies, cults, the main character going insane, an ending with no conclusion about all the questions... it's just too much. It's sad that it was so good before, but ultimately, it really is not a good manga.
I still need to finish this (last I read was the garbage truck volume) but I agree with you. The Berlusconi lookalike is still my favorite thing of the manga, such an unexpected cameo that was.

Ace of Diamond Act II 87

Okumura sawamura always feels like something out of bl mangas and fanfics, especially okumura moments of frustration from thoughts of Sawamura, but also some parts of looking up to him and taking his advice to those moments where he has many opportunities to interact further with him (even become his catcher), but he opts not too for his own reasons...which leads to more frustrations. Someday Okumura will make up his mind but I think it is coming soon, if the plans to put him and Seto into the first string really soon come to pass.

Im just so glad it appears to finally be happening. Ive waited so many years for this to happen! I just cant contain my excitement.

Jitsu wa Watashi wa ch180

Shirayuki going all-out on the mysteries. On the other side, I didn't expect so many students to be affected. Poor Akari has to be the biggest victim.

Moee-chan wa Ki ni Shinai ch7

Moee's cheeks certainly are a miracle.

Mike Haggar sure has fallen on hard times.

Rokudou no Onna-tachi ch50

Good thing they have some reliable allies.

Shokugeki no Soma ch225

Mimasaka best girl.

My Hero Academia ch147

Toga is pretty strong. That's some impressive acrobatics.

Wait, did someone seriously suggest Manga|OT| to move out from community?
Do you all want Zweizer banned so badly?

Hajime No Ippo 1188

That chapter cut short message nearly made me jump out of my seat and kick my screen.
But seriously, only best of health wishes to the author.

And I kinda feel like Ippo going full power is wasted on fodder here. Having him OKO him in the first round and getting those funky weight-off power-ups against a good challenge would have been way more exciting.

Jitsu Wa Watashi Wa 180

Kurohime is such a good protagonist by now.
Will be sad to part with this cast.

Madoka - Magia Record Reports p38

It'd be a tragedy if Iroha lost the will to live before the game released, but Tsuruno seems to have that effect on people. Or on me at least. I'm not sure where Madoka intends to stick that weapon.

Met My Sister On A Dating Site 10.1

My Sister Told Nationwide TV That We Started Dating (is the actual chapter title). This retroactively justifies the existence of this mini series. I pray to every deity under the sun that 1) their parents did indeed watch the broadcast and 2) they reacted like the vast majority of people in the Mochiverse do to anything involving yuri.

Jeez, surely folks outside here will be able to appreciate my contributions as well!
If MangaGAF ever left Community, the first thing we'd do would be an avatar bet contest about your life expectancy.

Yeah this lady is great. Let's hope she shows up in more of Mochi Au Lait's works.

Sounds like a bet where I'll definitely be the winner!

lol.

Besides, community is the best place for these specific types of threads. How I find community threads is do a search or just browse the community forum and find stuff that looks interesting. I think if people are interested, they'll find it.

You are so right on the money holy shit. All we need is for someone to show us some ancient technology and some radioactive waste
lol pretty much

I love how chapter 1 had people (some) assuming that the series was going to be lame but it is quite charming and oozes old school shonen/adventure. Of course it isn't ground breaking but it is a nice read.

Yeah that tends to be how community threads work. They're not really meant for recruiting.
