Okay so if it was just an amendment help me understand how this is truly dead other than "they don't want to bother anymore"

They straight up don't have time at this point.

Time is very very very limited (as we figured out in '08) and they're just wasting all of it.

^This

They are on recess until September 5th. They have to deal with the debt ceiling after recess. Then deal with passing a budget. Also they are going to have what is likely to be an ugly and drawn out process tackling tax reform.

They have a month off, so there's nothing getting done anymore until September.

After that they need to make sure the entire economy of the world doesn't crash with the debt ceiling, and our own budget also hits around the same time.

During all of this, McCain will likely be in and out of the Senate, and possibly will retire at some point, so they're working with an unreliable +2 majority that is only +1 often. Collins and Murkowski will continue to be nos, so while McCain's out it's not going anywhere.

The next real place to do it would be in 2018, but that's an election year and the bill is so unpopular it's just not something they'll likely want to do. 2018 will be the year for "easy" wins to try and fluff themselves up for November.

Somewhere in there they're planning on having a tax reform fiasco, which will almost certainly be a circus.

I'm glad Reince got fired. It to me signals that Trump doesn't give two fucks about healthcare anymore really.

I expected a lot more angry tweets today.
He can not care about legislating it anymore and still very much (continue to) sabotage it

True. I'd rather he focused on the wall and trying to convince congress to fund it lol. Wonder how much time that could suck from the legislative calendar? 🤔

If the WH is actually going to declare war on the GOP and the "never Trump" Paul Ryan, I'm actually curious how's he's going to get funding for the wall or any other nonsense he wants.

Democrats should give him the a 20 billion in wall funding for 40 billion in with an ACA stabilization and more carrots for Medicaid expansion for states that haven't done it.

Trump turning his White House into a straight-up Scorsese movie is amazing.

Six months from now, when there are a half-dozen or more additional resignations, I want to see a montage set to the slow half of "Layla".

Oh god why

Edit: Getting comments from Scott Adams thoughts on NK missles is like the white person version of going to Ja Rule for his thoughts.

It's the smartest move and the one that makes him look the best.
That's true, I almost feel like Putin would even understands Trump's position. And with the White House signaling that Trump will sign it, who wants to bet Trump vetoes it anyway?

Vox did a good video on him on how he always acts like his mind is blown when one of his guests agrees with a narrative he's pushing. It's super hilarious.

I was trying to find that video, all I could find was a short Bill Maher bit.

Sorry I even decided to look.

Hannity saying stuff like Democrats don't want the president to succeed, their singular goll is to obstruct. "Have has any administration in our lifetime ever had to deal with something like this?" (I'm not watching Hannity, just saw these talking points on Twitter).

Yes, Sean. We may have seen obstruction like this in our lifetime, but for the life of me I can't remember where...

Edit: also the Gainesville police department seems to be the most vocal on Twitter:

"I'm a cop.

I do not agree with or condone @POTUS remarks today on police brutality.

Those that applauded and cheered should be ashamed."

what the hell is the "deep state" ?

hannity throws this word around on his show
career civil servants, people in gov't who aren't political appointees. Hannity likes to pretend the rank-and-file people at the FBI, CIA, NSA, DoJ are secretly plotting to take down the administration, because as you know, the intel community is notoriously liberal (lol).

That is some space aged, 31st Century projection from Hannity. And unsurprisinc.

Deep state also means any hold over from the Obama administration. Judge Jeannie was saying on Trump and Friend's this morning that Trump should do a mass purge of all Obama era holdovers.

this hannity interview with priebus makes zero sense

he isn't' probing why he was let go or anything

i can't believe there is someone as pathetic as priebus to bend over on live tv AFTER getting fired

People wondering who would want to be in the Trump admin after all this: all the worst people thinking about their own interest. Mooch is a sign of things to come.

BTW, where is Ivanka?

BTW, where is Ben Carson?

Do you think Hillary's winning Orange County was a fluke because Trump was so uniquely bad and she was able to appeal to the wealthy, Romney-esque voters there? I only asked the question because she won by almost ten points, and it's been slowly trending Democratic, looking at the numbers.

She won Rohrabacher's, Royce's, Issa's, and Walters's districts (48, 39, 49, 45, respectively), but I acknowledge that the results may be different without her or Trump on the ballot.

Orange County's slowly been changing from the bulwark of white conservatism to a multiracial place like the rest of California over the decades. Romney only won it by 6 after Bush won it by nearly 20 in 2004 so I find it entirely possible our candidate in 2020 can win it, if only by a couple.

Wonder how many police departments across the country will or have released a statement like this:

"The @POTUS made remarks today that endorsed and condoned police brutality.

GPD rejects these remarks and continues to serve with respect."

Remember his "I don't pay much in taxes because I cheat the system, that makes me smart" line? He respects employees who do this. He doesn't want wimps, he wants brawlers.

Can I just say how stupid this line is? I mean, yeah, it might sound smart and clever, but it really is an incredibly dumb thing to say. The issue is not that we don't know where the tax loopholes are (they're in the tax code which is public information), but rather, there's no political will to get of them. If the case was that we needed someone who really knew the tax code inside and out, then the smartest thing in the world to do would be to elect someone from the IRS as president.

Not to mention that the Donald doesn't even do his own fucking taxes to begin with...

I mean, it's not even a question that we can win it because Hillary already did by almost ten points. I just wanted to get some input from Californians as to whether her victory should be interpreted as an aberration due to the peculiarity of the last election or the realization of a long-term trend. More specifically, I wonder if we can preserve the gains we made in 2016 next year, especially since Nate Silver predicts the map will look more like 2012, when we lost OC narrowly.

I actually have that question about many of the rich suburban areas Hillary flipped or nearly flipped. Would GA-06 have been so close without a vulgarian Trump on the ticket? Probably not, given that Tom Price won by 23. Rubio or Kasich would've dominated her there. We need these areas and have some confidence they'll eventually swing our way, but I wonder if 2020 might be too soon, especially if we have two "normal" candidates.

Next year's midterms will help us gauge how far we've come in solidifying support in the Sun Belt. If we perform well on a normal, Trump-less map, then I have confidence about 2020. I expect OC to be one of the primary test sites. We'll probably beat Issa because he narrowly won last time and now everyone hates him, but if we can scalp Rohrabacher or Walters (or Handel in GA or...) or at least come close, then I'll feel better about the future.

Of course, my crude analysis probably misses many nuances vis-a-vis the dynamics of midterm vs. presidential elections, the importance of particular candidates, the long-term trends of these areas, etc. I should also note that we'd been performing better in some Sun Belt areas before 2016 (e.g., Arizona, parts of Texas), so I perhaps got a bit muddled there, too. Such ignorance happens when one teaches English rather than political science. Everyone feel free to nitpick.

Jeez, already? That feels like just the other day. To think, one year ago I had a hot, buxom Asian gf, was still working on my B.A., and my left arm was perfectly functioning. :(

i just googled and seems like since that "poverty is a state of mind" thing, Ben's been radio silent.

I know Trump appointed him as secretary of HUD, is he really tho?

All those people running departments are probably doing nothing at all, just getting paid.

Btw I wonder if the recent attacks from Trump against Sessions is because he knows something is coming, it's would be his way of threatening him to not turn on him if he wants to keep his job or something.

Rick Perry also disappeared basically.

No he didn't. Just last week or so he made the idiotic argument that if you increase the supply of coal, you increase demand.

edit: Also, too. He was standing behind Trump laughing as he was attacking Obama and Hillary at the Boy Scouts Jamboree thing the other day.

Again, the smarter members of the administration caught on a long time ago: just be quiet and don't give him a reason to bitch about you. As someone said, they just collect paychecks while the career civil servants run the departments.

Good.
