Guild Wars 2 Second Expansion: Path of Fire - September 22

Wait...it doesn't include the first expansion by default? What ever happened to them saying all expansions will include previous ones? Pretty lame to go out on their word after the first hurdle.

They left it vague enough so that a "bundle option" is still not backing down from what they originally said

"In the future, if we release further Guild Wars 2 expansions, we plan to offer all of the prior expansions, the core game, and the latest expansion for one single purchase price."

Edit: Well actually, as a 20 dollar add on, that seems like backing away from the spirit of that statement..

$30 is surprisingly cheap. Expansion looks great! Love the new enemy designs. I'm still not sold on mounts, but I trust Anet to figure them out just like gliding didn't break their existing combat model.

I was always worried about certain fans overhyping the poorly supported idea that Heart of Thorns would be free as gospel, and it looks like we're going to see months of complaining about that now. :(

I've jumped in and out of GW2 for a long time now. I can never really "get into it". New expansion looks cool, but only because I really want to try Holosmith and that Ele spec.

How hard is it to acquire elite specs as a newer player? I really don't think I'll bother if it's a huge ordeal. I never liked a lot of the base playstyles.

Well it's $20 cheaper this time. People who already own the base game + expansion don't want to pay for the expansion they already have. So they allow us to buy it cheaper while the people who don't own the original can buy it for $55 which get the first expansion + other stuff.

Guarantee I'm going to screw up this post? Yeah.
Is the Heart of Thorns content included with the Path of Fire purchase? I clicked on upgrade to Heart of Thorns in my account, but it sends me to the newest expansion page.

Edit: nevermind, I see it can be added at checkout. Not in for $50, oh well.

sadly a new race is a little too late

But the Tengu are right there!

Smackdab in the middle of literally everyone! They have been teasing their territories since the launch of GW2 with Tengu guards just going "BLEEEH!" and not been doing anything with them. D:

Well, $50 for both is actually not a terrible price. Considering we had to buy HoT for that price!

Super easy and maps will help you get them with trains.

Anyone else surprised by how soon this is launching? I was expecting it to be 6 months out at least, with Destiny 2 launching 2 weeks before I'll be deep into that.

Okay I just looked at the vaguest of info, and haven't followed GW2 since *quite* shortly after launch but....
Apparently Balthazar is the bad guy!? Like God of Fire and War Balthazar? And you're trying to stop him from fighting the Elder Dragons? Are they not bad guys now? WHAT HAPPENED

Mounts are like 5 traversal abilities. I'll be surprise if it could be summoned at-will. How in the world would they be able to design maps where the player can water-walk and teleport anywhere?

Play the last Living Season.

SPOILERS FOR LS3
Balthazar apparently didn't disappear like the other gods, and wants his OG power back. Killing Elder Dragons seems to do that for him, but it unbalances Tyria into destruction.

If you're still watching the stream, there's a Trailer analysis going on from WoodenPotatoes.

They don't want to let up. Hell, based on what they were saying, we should expect Season 4 of the Living World to begin by December/January!

ArenaNet is on a fucking roll!

I love this!

If you kill enough elder dragons Tyria explodes because of the imbalance of magic.

Long overdue new character customization options!

A range of new hairstyles and face options are available for human characters. You can access them during character creation, or update an existing character’s look using a Total Makeover Kit or Self-Style Hair Kit.

We obviously don't really know how hard it's going to be in Path of Fire, but with a little planning you could fully unlock a specialization in Heart of Thorns in a couple hours. That's probably somewhat reflective of Path of Fire, since Heart of Thorns made it easier post-launch and I would assume they're going to follow a similar route from the start.

You will need to have your character at the level cap, though. Each expansion comes with one max-level boost, if that helps.

Regarding HoT and PoF --

From the official website FAQ:

Q: Do I need to own Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns™ in order to play Path of Fire?

Owning Heart of Thorns isn’t required to access Path of Fire content. However, some content is exclusive to Heart of Thorns.

You must purchase Heart of Thorns to unlock and use the gliding mastery, as well as all other masteries introduced in and exclusive to that expansion. You will be able to complete all of the content in Path of Fire without the use of any Heart of Thorns-exclusive masteries.
You must purchase Heart of Thorns to unlock and use the 9 elite specializations introduced with that expansion.
Path of Fire includes access to the revenant profession, but not the Herald elite specialization. If you only own Path of Fire, you will be able to create a revenant character and unlock the Renegade elite specialization.
You must purchase Heart of Thorns to claim the new guild hall released in Path of Fire, and access the Scribe crafting discipline to fully upgrade your guild hall.

Q: Is Heart of Thorns included for free when I buy Path of Fire?

A: No. As we said when we announced Heart of Thorns, we always want to give you the option to purchase both expansions for a single price. With the purchase of any edition of Path of Fire, you can add in Heart of Thorns during checkout and purchase both expansions together for less than the combined prices of the expansions. If you already own Heart of Thorns or only want to play Path of Fire, you can purchase Path of Fire separately.

To purchase Path of Fire visit our official store.

I can't lie... I might start going on my Engie to get Hero Points so I can unlock that Elite Spec INSTANTLY. Cause holy fuck... :O

I only listened to the announcement - was there any footage of mounts being used in HoT or vanilla maps? I would assume they would be usable there but maybe not right away like with gliding.

Holy cow, we're going to Elona! That alone will get me back into the game for a while.

How are people feeling about the mounts? They always seemed pretty controversial when brought up in the past. I'm down with it though.

Oh awesome, I didn't know about the max level boost. I might just jump in thanks to that. It's the OG story/maps that feel like a slog. I'll keep my eye out on it then.

Sword ele is like everything I've ever wanted in MMO class design.

I love how they're implementing them! They're not simply a means to go faster but to actually use their utility to move quickly.

My wife and I haven't played in a minute. Interested in jumping back in with this expansion, mounts look fun!

Had a few questions:

Sounds like gliding is exclusive to HoT owners, that true?

If I roll a new hooman and choose different story path, does it change my story all that much?

Does this living story season thing mean some of the main story quests will be different if I start a new character?

Is HoT playable solo?
I forget, since I haven't touched it since it released.

Absolutely so.

#1 - yes. You can get HoT with Path of Fire if you pay $20 more at checkout.

#2 - Yes, somewhat. You'll see other characters, but the end result is the same.

#3 - Living Story Seasons are content that are available if you continue to play the game. Most people who don't play the game very often still log in just to unlock these. You can "buy" the whole season as a pack later if you want more content.

All of the footage was on new maps I think. It showed some ice-y areas and stuff but it seemed to be described as a biome within the desert, not something like the shiverpeaks.

1. Yes, you need HoT to get gliding since it has a mastery tree tied to it that only unlocks with HoT

2. The only changes will most likely be some dialogue. At least that's how it's been for a while now.

3. No? I'm a bit confused by this one. The Personal Story (1 - 80) still plays at it did back at launch. After that you can then play Living Story Season 2 (Since LW1 is not playable but your not missing much, plus some of the content has been reintroduced into fractals), then HoT then play LS3.

It should be noted that the content ASSUMES you've played the rest of it. So technically you could get to level 80 and before even finishing your personal story, you could begin Living Story Season 3 and the game will assume your character has beaten everything before it.

The LS has nothing to do with the personal story so no.

I remember people in GW2 forums adamantly arguing that I was wrong to want mounts in the game and it would ruin the whole experience.

So I'm sure they're having fun lol

I kind of stopped playing Heart of Thorns as I felt getting the upgrades required to progress in the story being rather grindy. Have they sped up that up ever since? All the skills seemed fine, but it took so long to even level up one thing :/

Is it possible to switch classes in this game without completely starting over?
Didn't realize all the classes had an autofire skill. :/
