Shows how desperate Eggman is trying to find the emeralds in Sonic 3 and then mad dash trying to find the hidden Palace and the Master Emerald in 3&K.

I wonder if Sonic Mania will retcon the Hidden Palace zone that it's inside the mountain or outside like it is after SA
What if there are multiple palaces that Knuckles can Switch the emerald between? Like, maybe when he knows someone is looking for it he takes it from the SA one to the Hidden Palace.

Nice! Looks amazing.

I am so excited for this game. Got the collector's edition for PS4 pre-ordered, plus buying the Switch version day 1.

I seriously wonder how many people are double dipping. It seems like a decent portion of the forum dwelling crowd is buying it twice.

I'll be getting it day 1 on Switch, then double dipping eventually on Xbox One to get the Achievements.

And hopefully one day triple dipping for a physical one! >_> On Switch please Sega!

I'm really really excited for it! :D

Already pre-ordered it on PS4 for the avatars and themes. Will definitely buy on Switch as well, assuming there aren't any issues with the port.

Take my fucking money Mania team.

Switch day 1. I cant justify double dip in PS4 because performance will be on par between both consoles but I would buy a physical release on Switch in a heartbeat.

Sonic Forces tho, Switch for portability and PS4 for performance 😊

My X1 preorder says it unlocks at 11:00am on the 15th, and I'm in Canada. Not sure what it's like elsewhere. Seems like an odd time to me, but I don't usually preorder digital games.

For those waiting on CEs via Amazon, someone on Sonic Retro just said their order has been pushed forward from the 17th to the 15th.

Looks like the CEs might be delivered on release day. Outside of that there's always Steam.

At the end of S3&K the Master Emerald is left out in Angel Island Zone, which is where it is in Sonic Adventure 1. Hidden Palace probably caved in. That part's always been consistent and I think people just forgot.

Any word on Super Sonic?

No official word, but we know the Chaos Emeralds are in the game obviously, and I really can't imagine some hardcore Sonic fans being behind a classic styled Sonic game and not putting in Super Sonic.

What I'm far more curious about is Super Knuckles/Super Tails stuff.

Indeed. I NEED Fin Funnel Tails again.

The master emerald shrine is also outside in SA1's flashbacks which would take place before 3&K.

Yep, sadly that theory doesn't work because the Master Emerald was outside (in the very same temple, just not in ruins) when the Echidnas were wiped.

I think Sonic Team just didn't feel like recreating Hidden Palace in 3D.

The Switch's portability factor will probably be what decides it for a lot of fans.

It has for me. That high quality screen helps with the decision too 😉

Keen to see how the sales split between versions after release.

£15(?) is such a good price for a game like this too.

I've been curious as to how co-op in this game works for a little while and am rewatching some videos with that thought in mind.

In this one, Tails moves independently of Sonic instead of attempting to mimic him, obviously suggesting that a 2nd player is behind the wheel. But he's also left behind mere seconds into the video and never respawns. What's up with that?

Think it's this feature where Tails can carry Sonic when playing solo - you hold up and press jump twice.

That button combination puts Tails in copter mode for lifting.

Knuckles' story in S3&K takes place some time after Sonic's and Hidden Palace is obviously still around, so that doesn't work.

My own headcannon theory for the Master Emerald moving around is that sometime after Chaos wipes out the Echidnas, it is moved underground for protection. After S3K Knuckles decides to return it to its former location.

...but it's probably just Sonic Team being lazy/artistic license.

Seems exactly like how it worked in 2 and 3. Tails basically never catches up unless you stand still. That's why it's more of a "little brother" role to fill because player 2 just gets to pretend to play and watch most of the time. It is cool to occasionally coordinate to get to secret areas via lifting though.

(Never coming back at all in this video may also be a glitch.)

I... don't think so...? The games are pretty loose.

There's a definite chronology, each of the classic games takes place after the previous ones. Totally inconsequential, but there. The 6th gen games did try their hand at a timeline at one point but it got completely handwaved by the modern titles.

There's a kid in Sonic Adventure that mentions the events of Sonic CD and Sonic 3&k (when playing as Sonic), but for some reason the kid only mentions it in japanese, which baffles/annoys me.

I really don't see CD fitting anywhere in the timeline.

There's no reason why it wouldn't. You could just say that CD takes place before 2 and before he met Tails and before both he and Robotnik discovered the 7th Chaos Emerald (which is why he's after the Time Stones instead).
