i mean i get that it's a 3DS game being released in 2018 so they aren't gonna go ham with the localization costs

i bet pq2 gets dubbed, even though it probably won't come out in north america until 2019

Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology will be dubbed.

Guess they've got that much more faith in Persona than mainline.
Or just that little faith in mainline.

Did Apocalypse not do well here, or was the original Strange Journey a bomb in some supposedly important territory?

IMO it's probably gonna depend on how much voiced dialogue is actually in the game - if all the named/portraited crew members have all of their dialogue fully voiced, yeah, I can see why'd they skip it - that's like ten chatty as h*ck NPCs right there, not counting a bunch of one-offs who only show up in EX Missions.

...but if it's mostly just, like, Portable JRPG Grunting (tm)...

Not to get too far off Persona here, but Radiant Historia getting dubbed instead is what confuses me. It seems like the Japanese voices would be more appreciated there, and I don't think the original sold significantly better than Strange Journey did back on DS.

At the end of the day though, these decisions were made for a good reason, not just "fuck it that'll do." I can't say that makes me like it any better though.

(Persona 4,12/3 spoilers)
The impact of Nanako's "death" starts to fade when ya gotta fast forward the scene nine times before finally choosing the correct dialog options with Yosuke at Namatame :I

After 275 hours, I finally finished Persona 5 (Hard). I suppose 10 hours or so could be knocked off for times when I was idle or had fallen asleep in the Velvet Room, but that's pretty much my real playtime. Kind of insane. Even my P3: FES run trying to do all Elizabeth requests only ran to 135 hours or so. Hard continued to be no joke in this game until the end.

I have a lot of mixed feelings about the game, and having just watched the credits I'm not really able to express them properly yet, but I kept feeling like it just ended abruptly.
I never even got Haru past level one and wasn't able to max most of my main characters due to the constant stat gating and lack of free time. Part of it is because I heard there was a Valentine's event, so I assumed the main game at least ran until then. And having just watched the ending, I must say I felt pretty disappointed. The goodbyes felt hollow and trite for people I had maxed out a relationship with, and I disliked that I didn't even get a word with non-maxed characters. The goodbye with my romantic choice Takemi felt especially dry. The VDay event was pretty well done, but the goodbye was basically "thanks for everything, see ya later." It was like they didn't even write a goodbye for her as a girlfriend (or maybe for anyone?). I also wasn't happy that after being put through the ringer, Joker is forced to move away from everyone he's connected to. I suppose this is the same trope they used in P3, but it had more meaning there. But anyway, I'll talk more about the game later when I've had time to think on it.

Damn, that's a lot of hours listening to Beneath the Mask. I'm super slow with RPGs, maxed all confidants, spoke to many NPCs after story events, had quite a lot of idle time just doing other stuff with the game on the background and I still finished it with "just" 190. Hard mode also.

I suppose the issue with Strange Journey is it either had more voiced dialogue than RH (which I find doubtful, but who knows) or they just don't have that much faith in it. The original didn't sell a lot even by SMT standards iirc.

Wow that's a lot of hours. My first playthrough took me around 140 hours and that was with maxing all the confidants, although I was playing on normal so maybe that ends up knocking off more time than I would have thought.

I hope everyone from the original cast returns for PQ2.
Except maybe Haru...
I think Xanthe Huynh's Haru is kinda similar to Erin Fitzgerald's Chie in Golden. She's got the right voice for it, but it seems too . . . forced? I think if she's given some time Xanthe would be a great fit, but Haru just doesn't have enough lines in P5 for her to fall in a groove like Erin did.

Exactly. Hell, maybe the anime will fix that before we get to the spinoffs.
If it gets dubbed, anyway.

Is there any reason to believe that person?

Think back to the guy who randomly dropped the bomb that he knew that P5 was gonna get delayed after Feb 14th and said to prepare ourselves for April.

I didnt believe him.

He was right.

I sort've believe the guy with details about Persona 5 R. It doesnt sound too far-fetched.

it took us a decade to get this game out the door but we kept delaying it to make sure it's the best game possible, but also we're releasing a remix of it within a year that fixes all the pacing issues we somehow missed during that period

Sorry to be a pain, but any chance of a link or title of thread? I vaguely remember reading this.

Just to prove I'm not making this stuff up....

And to anybody doubting this... I think a P5R in 2019 is very possible.

Thread:
Rumor: Persona 5 Spinoff or Revision on the way - P5R

Take it as a rumor since it's not new, but my source is absolutely reliable.

I haven't played P5, but I know they will get rid of/fix some grinding (or something that makes the game too long) and, as a consequence, the story should be shorter. Around 2-3 months ago I was told the game was still 1.5/2 years away from release.

I was told to wait for this version since it should be overall better. That's it.

I fully expect P5R to come out sometime during the anime broadcast, but I really doubt that they'd mess around so much with the game when they never did something like this before.

Yeah, I don't quite understand how my number is so above everyone else's. I wiped a few times, but don't think I lost more than 10 hours of progress. I'm on the slow side with RPGs also, but this is by far the most I've ever spent on one.

Maxing all your confidants on the first try is impressive, did you use a guide? I pretty much did everything blind for better or worse. The only things I looked at were a gift guide dungeon guides for a couple of them because I was tired of the puzzles. Maybe the not knowing what to do added more time.

All this P5R talk is triggering me a little... after 275 hours in "vanilla" P5 the last thing I want to hear is that there's a better version coming out.

I was able to do it without a guide though I had to save scum a fair amount, 5 gives you enough tools that even if you aren't playing perfectly you can still scrape by. I think I ended up maxing everybody with about 6 days to spare.

True... maybe they realized there's some stuff they wanna improve on and change. There's a particular last section in the game that should just get cut.

Don't feel triggered by P5R. It's not coming till 2019 and Persona games getting a updated installment is gonna happen. Happened to P3, P4 and eventually... P5.

Enjoy your time with P5 because you can use it compare it with P5R when you play it.

And I didn't bother maxing all my confidants because I had Joker in the gym almost all the time. I raised my HP and SP that way :D

What section of the game do you want them to cut? (Major P5 spoilers)
Mementos? That part is the culmination of what the game has been trying to tell its players, there's no way they're going to cut that.

Not that part....

That part where you got the crew again and you hafta make that climb up to Y-baddie. You fight like these very powerful mini bosses. That has to GO.

I actually didn't really have any problems with the pacing, personally. I wouldn't really want them to remove anything. I actually enjoyed the more boss heavy sections.

Guess it would be cool if they added some new QoL features and confidants, but even then I don't really feel like the game needs it. Would probably look forward to any new music more than anything.

There's nothing wrong with the pacing?

Wait, hold on... I don't think I've ever asked you about your thoughts on the story. So tell me.

Dude who knew details about Persona 5 R said on GAF that the some parts of the story got reworked and that pacing should be better.

Does critical thinking just completely discern you? Why are you so gullible? Why do you buy into literally everything, no matter how illogical? I can't believe this actually needs to be spelled out for you:

Some rando on GAF does not have P-studio insider info.

Watching the P-Sound Bomb 2017 and oh my god the medley with all the home/lounge songs was incredible. Was confused as to why the tempo for Behind the Mask was so fast and then lost my shit. I'm definitely going to the next Persona Live, man.

I didn't follow a guide, but I also didn't go in completely blind :p
I heard people talking about how useful the
Fortune
confidant was for time management and that you couldn't raise
Sojiro's
confidant past level 4 until a specific party member joined. Knowing that bit of information I prioritized
Fortune
ASAP and didn't spend more time than needed with the latter. Towards the end I almost thought I wouldn't make it because of the Tower arcana but I managed to do it with around a week to spare. It felt like big accomplishment for me since I didn't even come close to maxing everybody in P3 and P4.

I think P5 has simultaneously pretty good and pretty bad pacing. If I had to put it into words, I think the "macro-pacing", i.e. how often the game advances the main plot, is actually handled pretty well for the most part. You always feel like you're moving forwards at a reasonable pace (Summer aside) and story events/plot beats are fairly well spaced. On the other hand, the "micro-pacing", i.e. your daily activities and sometimes even dialogue scenes, feel a bit more padded than usual. Constant text messages (some are actually good, but many are downright unnecessary), repeated dialogue, dialogue that repeats itself, dialogue that says the same thing to reinforce an idea, and a few other issues. There's also the "story-time"/"activity-time" dichotomy that so many people have complained about, something that could've easily been addressed by just letting you do something at night when nothing particularly important happens in a "story day". They're small issues overall, but in the course of 100~200 hours of playtime it adds up and can become quite grating, specially on a first playthrough, which is when you don't want to skip anything in fear of missing something important. Fixing these annoyances would make the game feel a bit faster.

Then there are those who just aren't that invested in the story events in a particular section of the game. Pacing is going to feel sluggish if you're not into what's happening in the plot. Fixing that is a little more complicated, but making the villains more compelling and exploring their themes in a more in-depth manner would be a great start.

You're prolly right but remember when we all thought we was gonna get P5 on Valentine's Day but some rando on GAF came in this thread and said it would get delayed? That rando said he had reliable sources too. One day later... blam. Delayed.

Come on, that's one of the very few parts where you get to hear Life Will Change (w/ vocals) for an extended period of time. Don't take that away from me!!!

I'm just salty at that part because
at that part... the last thing I wanted to see was more stalling before Y-baddie. And one of those mini bosses was so hard. If I didn't have that Get Smoked kid's ability...
I prolly would have never got to Y-baddie.

And I love how you explained the story and pacing issues. All I do is scream that early P5 is best P5 so its actually better to see someone go more in depth.

I actually thoroughly enjoyed it. I think it has it's blunders and issues, but I think that's par for the course with these games. I feel the Hashino directed Persona titles all have very similar issues.

I'm usually a pretty critical person, but I think my disgusting amount of love for this series makes me unknowingly give a bunch of passes to a lot of the issues.

I think when I beat it, I said P5 was my favorite game, but 2IS-5 are all kinda crammed into my #1 favorite game of all time spot haha.

Edit: I will add that I think the midsection of P5's story is definitely it's weakest aspect. But I think it picks up again once Haru joins, even if she was very under utilized.

Information on the P5 localization (NA) = / = internal P-studio info (JP)

ffs
Not to mention that the poster just copied the details from a French forum; they didn't have any insider information themselves. GAF as a whole doesn't have that many insiders anymore, so I always take stuff like that with a pound of salt.

The story isn't bad at all. Has a really good message behind the game too. Every party member is fighting for something they believe in.

And I know I champion about early P5 so much that it comes off as annoying but that was the strongest part for me.

My issues moreso invovles the villains in the Palaces... and Shido... Akechi.

Edit: Still say that Makoto is the best and worst thing to happen in that game.
