Japanese auto design as a whole is at a pretty low point right now. I feel like they truly good looking cars are, for the very most part, European or American. I wish the Japanese would get their act together in this department but until then we will continue to get stuff like the new RLX and the "revised" front end on the GT86.

The "spindle grille" on Lexus these days is an utter abomination and I have no idea what the hell they are thinking.
I agree with that for the most part. Although I have to say on the GT86/BRZ I think it kinda works. The Aimgain kit comes to mind.
DAMD made the GT86 look like a mini LFA for one of their kit.

Hey now the spindle grill is okay in some applications, like the LC500.
I like the Q60 too.
Infiniti and Lexus are doing alright IMO.
Acura is just...God knows what right now.

Had a brilliant time last night. We all met at McLaren Ascot, checked out the 720S and not a Shmee or Youtuber in sight! I believe they didn't get an invite hehe.

The convoy got broken up on the way which was a shame, but such are the joys of traffic-laden roads in the UK. I did film it though, which I'll edit a couple of snips from in the next couple of days.
We ended up at MTC...two car parks full of Macs was strange to see!
Had some refreshments next to the new 570S spider before the film.
I was surprised that McLaren have their own purpose built cinema which was nice.
The film was worth watching, and afterwards Amanda McLaren (Bruce's daughter) and her husband did a Q&A session which was extremely interesting discussing about how the brand came about, the origin of the logo and 'McLaren Orange' etc.
An entertaining evening and I'd likely go to the next event now that I've popped my cherry.

When I first saw pics of the 720S I didn't like the headlights one bit - but they have really, really grown on me.
The older models almost look cartoonist in comparison now.
Not that I could ever afford one, or do it justice.
Lol, tbh I'm still not a fan of the lights. The rest of the car is beautiful and looks lush in the flesh, and we'll probably chop ours in for the 720S Spider when it gets released in a couple of years time, but those lights....hmmm.
I'm hoping that MSO will allow us maybe some colour coding for them to make them less prominent? We'll see!

I should have made an exception for Mazda and Infiniti. They are both designing some good looking vehicles. The Mazda 6 in particular has great lines and in Gran Touring trim is a beautiful car.

Out of all the modern Japanese cars, the Mazda 6 is by far the best styling wise. I haven't had the privilege of driving one but I hear they're great. Had they put a turbo 4 in there, would have checked it out in a heartbeat.
They're a company I'd like to see do well so that we get a better spread of options from them. What they're doing is basically exactly what I want from a JP company - fun to drive, practical cars with handsome, understated styling.

A Quattroporte is my dream car.
The very rear quarter window framing has always derped me out, but the built in flush cup holder saves it.
The colors are great. I hope you don't have kids for the sake of your sanity. I wanted Midnight Blue metallic and brown leather with walnut and in the end went with black because I have an 8 year old.
NO! Well, I mean it's up to you, but in that money range I'd be looking at a Panamera, an A8 or an S class. Because creature comforts.

Edit: Speaking from experience, btw. Best friend bought one at auction to sell at his lot. 1 day later all the lights lit up on the dash. 2 weeks after fixing that issue, the car wouldn't start over some random, but very expensive bullshit. A month later, the car is still sitting there. Someone comes in to look at it, and it the throttle starts going crazy mid test drive - revs bouncing up and down. No one bought the car, and they lost 3K fixing it + 3K on selling it back at auction + interest for it sitting on the lot for 8 weeks.
Seriously, it's a piece of shit.

The Infiniti grille isn't. Infiniti's is considerably different in proportion, not sure why it gets lopped in with Lexus.

Oh man, that Infiniti prototype is a beauty. That Infiniti hood ornament actually looks really dope and fitting for the concept. I've always thought their brand logo was one of the nicer ones, they should introduce that hood ornament in their higher end cars along with that crease line that runs down the hood.

From what I saw about the 3200 in wheeler dealers, the electronic throttle Maserati uses is pretty shit and breaks, but you can have that fixed/upgraded, maybe its the same for QP. Every maker has its lemons, shit I saw pictures of Jaguar XE that weeks after being delivered new had rust. Plus with cars things really come down to the emotions they stir in you, I know I would much prefer dailying a QP rather than an A8 or a S class

Popped home to see my Dad's new car. He and I had been out testing the new G30 5 Series and the W213 E Class. Both great cars but I have to agree with the motoring journalists, the 5 is the better all rounder. Inside isn't as dramatic at first glance but iDrive is so, so much better than Comand and the fit and finish is better as well. The Merc looks more dramatic at first glance but poke and prod and it's not as good as it should be.
Went for a 520d in the end. Nice upgrade from his C7 A6. The iPhone's limitations in low light are all too evident when trying to photograph the cabin at night

Very nice. And since we've been on the topic of design I have to say that BMW has done a great job of making the F and G series cars appealing right from the start. They are, for the very most part, well formed and good looking automobiles. The front end took a while to grow on me but I actually like it now to the point where the older cars look quite dated in comparison. And since my dad has an F30 I sincerely hope the long term reliability has improved somewhat.
He's at about 60,000 miles with no major problems and that is far better than my 2009 which was leaking oil like crazy at that point. Fingers crossed for all newer BMW owners out there because they do make good looking and desirable cars.

Aluminum doesn't rust.
I know what pictures you're talking about, and it's called swarf debris - specs of brown crud left by a welding machine, so it isn't rust. It cleans away. And that's what the dealer did for the three people who noticed it on their cars. That thread ended after the first page.
That said, it's your money. And if you buy a used Maserati, just remember you're getting into a money pit.

I just washed Model S finally. I was waiting 2 weeks for the damn smoke to clear around here so I could actually not have it instantly be dirty again driving through yellow air.
I was just at an event/meet today that had "high speed grudge matches" on the track. The fastest car there was a good 24mph faster at the end of the front straight hitting 193mph (GT-R of course). But I was far more impressed with the AMG V8s that despite them being some of the slower cars there, their engine note is incredible. Only thing that sounded better there was a Shelby GT-350R. That Voodoo is on another level with an exhaust on it, damn.
Now I get to start my personal hellish dilemma, on vacation to the beach we have about an 11hour drive. I really want to take my RS down there because there's always awesome stuff down there, plus there's lots of cool places to cruise along the ocean. But, I don't want to risk rock chips on the interstates, it maybe a little too much on my back, and if something happened to me down there, wife can't drive stick back home. Not to mention no full spare in a flat event, just a pump and goo.
Guess I'll have to take the RDX as the sensible choice.
Now I get to start my personal hellish dilemma, on vacation to the beach we have about an 11hour drive. I really want to take my RS down there because there's always awesome stuff down there, plus there's lots of cool places to cruise along the ocean. But, I don't want to risk rock chips on the interstates, it maybe a little too much on my back, and if something happened to me down there, wife can't drive stick back home. The purpose of cars is to drive them, and lots of people take road trips on cars without spares.
I'm a huge proponent of this. But I am a little concerned about outing a tire, or if something happens and I can't drive more so than chips and vandalism/theft. Guess I'll flip a coin or something lol. I do have a couple cans of clear gloss plastidip laying around I can hit the car with on the way down, peel it off, then spray it last day there.
Have you considered paint protection? Like Xpel or other like product? I'm fairly certain that I will be doing that on my next "nice" car for at least the front end, hood and other places that might normally take damage from road debris. Protect that awesome car and then don't be afraid to drive it anywhere!

I'm always a huge proponent of the idea that everybody ought to have a tire blow out in the middle of nowhere story. It really sucks at the time, but it's a great life experience and generally one you wind up appreciating a lot later. My record for worst tire loss is half way between Las Vegas NM and the CO state line at 2 AM on a Sunday. That was a FUN weekend, let me tell you.
This past weekend the lady and I took a drive down to the OR coast from PDX. She's lived here forever and knows where most of the good back roads are. She got us on a super kick ass back one that was super twisty and a LOT of fun. My Cayman on Michelin 4S tires just gobbles corners like you would not believe. So clean and smooth!
There was a guy out there doing the same thing in a BMW X3. That was really damn funny and entertaining to watch. He actually hung with us pretty well all things considered but he had to push the thing so hard that he kept getting out of lane and having to really drill the brakes to keep the thing on-road. As usual, I'm more of a "keep it around the speed limit and don't slow down much" kind of guy and every corner we'd be caught right back up. Had to give the guy some space.
Lots of folks out with motorcycles, too.
