Television Displays and Technology Thread: This is a fantasy based on OLED

It wasn't until buying a monitor that I realized that I have an actual problem with OCD. I bought a X800D, and it's fine and all, I mean I know it has a stuck pixel. I can't see it from more than two feet away, but I know it's there. Now I kinda want a B7, and it's making me nervous. I've seen too many pictures of burn in and banding.

I would like, seriously pay someone to find a good panel for me.

So I'm finally ready to ditch my ST50 Panny Plasma. I've been loving it for years, even resurrected it when a lightning surge killed it. But I think I'm tired of monitoring what I play. Recently Prey has left a hud line on it for a few days, pissing me off.

So I started researching and I'm really disappointed in what's out there. On rtings, there's always a caveat whether it be light bleed, HDR input lag, or the worst offender, dirty screen effect. I'm wondering if I should just wait longer.

I have a 50" plasma that works and I've made the decision to wait. There are a ton of great reasons to upgrade but I'm sure 4K / HDR sets are only going to get better, with less "caveats" in the next couple years.

If you can wait their will always be improvements obviously, but the OLEDs by LG and sony are pretty damn nice. The main issue really holding me back currently is the dim game mode (LG). If they fix that soon I will probably jump in during november sales. The burn in is a concern, but I watch such a variety of content I dont think it would be an issue for me.

I am like you I bought a ks9000 a year ago and I noticed a small chip on my screen recently about the size of a two pixels. It lights up white all the time so in dark scenes I'm constantly looking at it. Now I'm tempted to pick up a c7 not sure thou

I've been researching the Sony 900e, but just when I was set on it, I saw that it has image retention. I can't believe it, lol. The reason I really want to get off Plasma is image retention, and now I'd need to be paranoid all over again. Screw that.

Why does he wear the mask!?
It can detect HDR, but it cannot showcase it properly. It's good for users who want good entry level 4K SDR TV.

Ah, screw that then I want HDR

What about

Panasonic TX-40EX600B 40 inch, 4K Ultra HD Certified HDR
Sony Bravia KDL40WE663BU 40 inch
Sony Bravia KDL40RE453BU 40 inch

For what it's worth I played a lot of Destiny on a 900e for about a month and had no issues with image retention.

Look at the actual numbers rtings posted for IR and they are miniscule:

IR after 0 min recovery: 0.22 %
IR after 2 min recovery: 0.03 %
IR after 4 min recovery: 0 %

They had to call it out, since they're all about measurement, but realistically, you'll never notice it. I certainly haven't. It's not even close to plasma levels (I still have my Panny plasma, so I am very familiar). Also, nothing to be paranoid about, since IR is temporary, anyway.

Nope.

The best starter HDR sets are Sony 43X800D [43XD80xx in EU] and the new TLC P series in the US. Anything below that has compromised HDR experience.

How can you tell which is good or not? Just so I know for future reference

If that's your worry, I'm pretty sure you could leave destiny on for 24 straight hours with no impact whatsoever. Buy it!

Yes, I'm asking what to research? it doesn't exactly say "Not proper HDR" in their descriptions

I'm reading up now, even "lower range" seems quite a high price point in the UK

Ideally you'd want a TV with a 10bit panel, wide color gamut, high peak brightness, proper local dimming if you're going LED, HDR10/HLG/Dolby Vision support etc
A TV that does all that will be expensive with the exception of the TCL P607/605 for people in the US

The 43XD800 is the best of the "budget" options with a somewhat decent HDR presentation
The Panasonic 40EX700 should be good too

If that's too expensive you can look at the 40MU6400
Its HDR is pretty mediocre but it at least has a wide(ish) color gamut and 10bit panel (and good input lag)
Rtings reviewed it (US MU7000 = UK/EU MU6400)

I'd wait. Your plasma is still quite good, and the only clear upgrade path from a late-gen plasma is OLED. You could get a 55" C7 and see if you win the uniformity lottery, but I'd probably wait until the 2018 OLEDs. They will be cheaper and better than this year's.

Same here, I watch so much different stuff and such a combination of things in multiple aspect ratios that I think I'll be naturally pretty good on the panel.

See some articles on what exactly is HDR, color volume, etc... something like these:

http://www.avsforum.com/forum/166-lcd-flat-panel-displays/2237546-importance-ultra-hd-hdr.html

http://www.avsforum.com/forum/166-l...s/2812161-what-color-volume.html#post52182865

And then look up the models you're interested in on specialized websites, like www.rtings.com , or www.flatpanelshd.com , http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/

If I read correctly, they only leave the image for ten minutes. Imagine a 3 or 4 hour gaming session. I could have misread though.

I'm looking to upgrade to the 4k era in my living room in the near future, but first I want to upgrade my sound system. Is there a home theater thread or is this the place to ask?

Playing some Rocket League on my new X930E, on an original PS4, I can't say I notice the high-ish input lag at 1080p at all. Feels snappy to me. Guess it's perhaps more noticeable in 60fps shooters, frame-perfect fighting games, etc, but I don't really play those, so this won't be a problem at all I think. Motion also looks very sharp and clear to me. Also nice that the TV automatically switches to game mode on the PS4 input, thanks to CEC I'm guessing.

What I do notice, of course, is the low resolution, or rather the aliasing and shimmering caused by it. That's always been noticeable in RL, but it's more so now. Gonna be nice to get a Pro and get some higher resolutions going. And that will also improve the input lag.

And in general, stuff looks great on this TV. Such an upgrade over my old set. The only issue, as expected, is the blooming caused by bright objects on dark backgrounds. The blacks are pretty great otherwise, but with stuff like a white credits scroll on a black background it's bloom city.

Another thing that positively surprised me is the TV's audio. Was expecting junk based on the reviews, but it sounds really good to me. Nothing like a proper sound system, of course, but waaaaay better than my old set. Details are clear, bass is definitely there, and the simulated surround stuff actually adds quite a bit of immersion.

Here are the winners. It's all OLED, even the best HDR TV isn't won by LCD.

Best Overall TV of 2017 : Panasonic EZ1002 OLED

Best Gaming TV: LG B7 OLED

Best HDR TV: LG B7 OLED

Best Living Room TV: Sony A1 OLED

Best Home Theater TV: Panasonic EZ1002 OLED

I have the C7, all 2017 LG OLED TV's have the same picture quality. This TV is incredible! Just jaw dropping! Nex Machina, InFamous: First Light and Horizon Zero Dawn are looking out of this world on this TV in HDR. HDR is a bigger leap for TV than 4K if you ask me. Of course i want to have both.

I'm coming from a Panasonic VT60 plasma, it had a good run but the C7 smokes this TV! OLED is a sample-and-hold display so motion performance isn't as good as plasma or CRT but OLED does everything else way better. Really guys, OLED isn't just hype. It's the real deal.

Anyone here own/has seen a Hisense M7000.

I know it won't be winning any awards for picture quality but given my recent tribulations with higher end TVs I have decided to buy a cheap one for the next couple of years to cover me until OLEDs come down in price.

Saw the 55 inch M7000 for £670 but not too many reviews about.

Assume HDR is basic but overall, good value for money?

Completely anecdotal, but I've had multi-hour gaming sessions with no hint of IR on my 900e.

Screw it. I bought the 900e. Comes Thursday. The 65" is a bit bigger than my 60" panny plasma so that'll be nice too. Went to see it at Best Buy, and though I can't trust store settings, it did look really good.

While I generally love my C7, here is one quirk: can't I get a native 1080p signal please? Everything is upscaled at least a bit.
Turned off super resolution and just scan on but the 1080p picture still has some interpolation.

So I got bored and did something most will consider moronic. I removed the back casing on my LG Oled C7 and had a Porsche Concourse paint shop paint it Mclaren Azure Blue that comes on the Mclaren P1 then they wet sanded and smoothed it out.

Then I sleeved the power cable with MDPC-X black sleeving and used 3M matte black Carbon Fiber wrap and covered the back aluminum of the tv.

Here are some pics:

B6 OLED here, how do I turn off automatic updates? Don't wanna get screwed with that firmware that borked HDR Game for the C6/E6.

I looked through the settings but couldn't find one for auto updates
